Dynamic Weather?

I looked on the Skyrim features, it has snow. But will we see rain? Will we see storms? Will we see sunshine? Will they change?

I'd like to see weather affect our character. Cold and heat having the obvious detrimental effects and snow blindness and vision obscuring rain. Could be quite cool. (and a tad annoying I suppose)

I'm very surprised we haven't heard or seen anything about rain. Not a single screenshot or single reference.

We better have dynamic weather. Of course it would only rain in very southern parts where the rain wouldn't always turn into snow.

There should be strong winds on some days too. I would like to see Blizzards/Thunderstorms as well.

Thunder and lightning could be so wonderful...I'm really hoping this was artfully implemented but I suppose there's little chance of it even being present given the lack of information we've heard about it.

What about real lighting? Like it actually strikes somewhere in Skyrim. Imagine your about to die and your enemy raises his sword for his final blow and BAM saved by lightning. 1 in 100,000 chance but it could happen.

or you could be walking and 2 feet in front of you BLAMO! lightning strikes :ahhh: . That was a close one.

I am sure there will be rain and other types of weather effects.
There is a concept art pic that shows rain also. It was on the studio wall from one of the videos.

lol...I'd like to have my feet struck by lightning and then look down sometime later and see a hole in my shoe.

Being that Oblivion had rain and sunshine changing I'd assume we'd have at least that. I can't see Skyrim taking any steps backwards as far as the looks of the game goes.

This is the kind of thing I want to see off in the distance every once in awhile:

And then once in a great while I want it to go crazy and do this: :foodndrink:

I'm sure they'll have all of the weather effects this time around.

But it would be even better if they thought to integrate the indoor/outdoor environment technology on their own instead of requiring patchy, broken mods to try and do it. When we are indoors, we ought to to hear the storms occuring outside naturally from the inside of the buildings and when we go outside, the weather should reflect what we heard on the inside. No more 20 sound replacer mods conflicting with each other, and you don't know which one to trust, which one to use, so you try them all, and end up breaking your game.

That would be a nice twist for a change. hahaha.

I don't think anything has been said on weather affects in Skyrim beyond the confirmation of dynamic snow, but considering that changing weather was in past games, I'd assume it will also be in Skyrim as well. Granted, Fallout 3 didn't have it (Locations tended to have their own weather but it wouldn't change dynamically over time.) but in that case, it could be that Bethesda just thought it would fit better with the whole post apocalyptic wasteland feel rather than it just being lazy game design, I'm inclined to disagree, of course, but I'm not the one who decided to design the game that way, but back to Skyrim, there's really no reason why Bethesda should remove dynamic weather except for laziness. Past games could do it just fine, so with Skyrim's improved engine, there's no reason it should be able to, especially since they're apparently programming the new engine themselves, therefore, they should be able to design it to fulfill their needs and shouldn't have to worry about being constrained by its limitations, if Skyrim can't have dynamic weather, it's due to either laziness, or incompetent programming.

What I'm concerned about is how, or if, the weather will be improved, we've heard about dynamic snow, but what will we get to make other weather types better? If nothing else, I really hope Bethesda fixes the rain going through objects, many other games that have dynamic weather avoid this, in fact, even Morrowind can if you install the Code Patch. It may have been acceptable back in Morrowind, but if we still can't seek shelter to keep dry in a rain storm because the rain magically goes through buildings in 2011, then I'm going to be dissappointed.

if the temperature of the air goes down to or below 0°C there will be snow (at 0° it may be mixed snow and rain or just hail) 0°C = freezing point of water. (basic physics)

In skyrim it looks like it tends to be 0°C and below at most places. so if the game is going to be reallistic we wont see much rain.

That is surprising to me too. I really hope there is rain (as long as it doesn't rain under overpasses.....)

you know what.... I want puddles! Yes Puddles, we get rain in games, we should get puddles too! I am sure Skyrim will have rain, it wouldn't make sense having what appears to be two forests which receive no rain, Also oblivion had rain, so I doubt it'd disappear.

I never thought about puddles before, but it is quite a good idea. If it is raining for hours (ingame) there are bound to be puddles.

From http://www.elderscrolls.com/community/welcome-back-elder-scrolls/:

"To do that this time, we knew, like before, we had to start over. We needed to reinvent large parts of the game and its technology. We started with the graphics renderer, and how we would bring the scale of snow covered mountains, dynamic weather systems, and massive dragons to life along with the small details of how people lived; from the forks they used, to the fish they caught, and the meat they cooked. We then rewrote all the major graphics and gameplay systems including lighting, shadows, level of detail, animation, interface, scripting, dialogue, quest systems, melee, magic, and more. All of those changes made it into our internal editor as well. So much had changed that we decided to call the engine and editor by a new name, the Creation Engine and the Creation Kit. We can't wait to see what all the brilliant mod makers do with these tools."

So when they say "dynamic snow" that means it can happen anytime and anywhere? In the trailer it shows the lush, green pine forest and the beautiful fall forest. Both areas are without snow. Is that static and will never change or it's possible for it to snow even in those areas?

I think it might be more likely that 'dynamic snow' will fall in the higher altitudes (yes, we get to say that since Skyrim involves as much vertical traveling as horizontal traveling :celebration: ) and in the more northern areas of the world.
Rain would, following the same principle, occur in the lower altitudes and more southern areas of Skyrim.

But who knows besides Bethesa? We might see the occasional downpour high in the mountains and some blizzards in the lower plains.
