Each race should start somewhere different..

Post » Fri Jan 08, 2010 6:30 am

instead of each race starting in the same prison cell... how about each race starts in a different part of the world map?

say if you start a nord, you begin high up in a mountaintop village..

argonian could start just having crossed the border from cyrodil.

dark elf could start of in a deep mine.

imperial in the aftermath of a pub brawl

kahjiit surrounded by a squad of his dead thief friends.

... im not talking about seperate MQ's for each... but each race should have a unique initial quest based on their current predicament.. after that its up the player.

THAT would be awesome!!!! It would enhance replayability a LOT !!!

If by restrict you mean enhances, then yes.

As I stated before. Starting without any background doesn't enhance roleplaying, but having one predefined background is no good either.
Being able to chose your background would be ideal, as long as it's not too constricting

Why do people do this? When someone says something, a person who disagrees just has to try and "correct" the other person as if the other person's opinion is wrong.

On the topic, I do feel it restricts role-playing. I'd rather be creative and come up with my own background, as well as not have the game assuming I would be doing this or starting there just because of my chosen race.

I quite like the idea. Just a small story at the beginning (story, NOT backstory) and they all lead to the same place, or all cause the same person to approach you, or the like, in order to start the main quest. I think that would be just a bit more incentive to start as different races and try them all out.

I'd only want different local places to start at as long as it was completely optional not determined by race.

But I think it will be fine with one beginning and if you don't like that for Rping then just forget it ever happened. Or if you have PC (lucky PC) just get a mod for it, that will happen in a few weeks or months after release.

I like the idea. It's very interesting, and it would make me play as the other races out of sheer curiosity. I really hope this happens too. Maybe we will see Jiub again.

i've always like the prison thing. maybe they could put some small variation like they did in Oblivion (with the other prisoner saying different things to you depending on race) or whatever.

I would rather start in the same place, yet have multiple paths/ways to get to where you need to be starting at the Main Quest.

I agree, starting in the jail cell of a different town for each race is a good idea.

Eh, in all honestest, why having the "prison" intro again? If its that what ya wanted, one can just do an intro and punch the nearest guard in the mouth after finishing the intro.

Like others have said, sounds too much like Dragon Age. I can't stand Dragon Age!

If I don't start out in Prison... what on Nirn would I do!?

You would cry in a corner then.

Be more imaginative, people. There are so many ways to start off with a blank slate, and not start off as an escaped felon, or what not.

Let's see:
You start the game exiting a transport at some town, with a letter that leads into the MQ.

Shipwrecked

Wake up in an inn.

Start the game in an conversation.

Passenger during an attack on your transport.

Wake up from a nightmare. The nightmare is a tutorial.

Find yourself in the middle of an arena royal, fight agaonst other slaves is the tutorial

You start out in a town square while a man lists your name to join the local militia and the battle you enter svcks you into the MQ.

A prison start again! would turn it all into a bad running gag. Maybe borrow some ideas from daggerfall. You play a little Q&A game regarding your chars background story (nothing must have for a ingame appearance later, just for yourself to flash Joe/Jane Doe out a bit) with the final question being something like:

...after X spoke with you, you did Y and Z and:
a) travelled with a merchant to the skyrim city of X
b.) got a beating from the guards and awoke in a cell in the city X
c) got a beating from thugs and awoke in an ally the city of X
d) went into a wrong portal and ended up in X

Something like that. If they later use some parts of the char background Q&A in the game all the better. TES always lacked a bit personality in that department.

Roleplaying, lul. Each race should start in a different place. I have multiple playthroughs in oblivion, I am sick of starting in the same place again and again and again..... and again....

I've always wanted something like this. I don't find the lack of background adding to gameplay, personally.

I would love that. Similar to DA: Origins, where you have different origins depending on what race and class you choose. So a City Elf starts in a different place, with different starting quests, than a Mage Elf. It's awesome, and makes for an even better immersive roleplaying experience.

What would be better, is a multitude of options. Such as, should you start out in a city? The wilderness? Jail? Arrive by ship? More choices is better.
