So I pre ordered my collectors edition for EBgames/Gamestop. I asked them how I would get my early access key and they said that there is no early access anymore, so they cant give me one. Is this true?

Go back to you order and check if when you ordered there was 3-5 days early access with the order, if there was you have the right to get the early access, if they don't give you the key i suggest get a refund and buy from a different store.
I'd also just double check your receipt and see if there is a code on it.
Also, if you preorder online you can still get early access--it's still being advertised on the store page as s preorder bonus.
I just checked the site and they do give early access keys on bought editions.
Alright ill go fishing for my receipt and see, thanks guys.
That's another reason I stay away from them, that and when I pre ordered Dues Ex they took my free cloud download out of the box so they could resell it. Was pretty damn mad about that, but whatever I learned my lesson to never go to them again. My suggestion, cancel the pre order with them and go to ESO's site and order it there. No hassles no worries from ordering directly from ESO.
Only problem with doing that is that I'm in Canada, and wont get the game for at least two weeks after release lol
Yeah, EBgames told me that they have no keys to give out right now, even though it says on their website that it should have been printed on the receipt. ugh.
I'm in Canada, I ordered my digital copy no muss no fuss....Just buy a Visa/MasterCard giftcard, if you don't have a credit card, and done...Buying from stores is just a headache, and they don't care anyway. I'd rather cut out the middle man and go to the source.
They are pulling your chain and most likely keep the code for themselves (yeah, don't be surprise at this, their kid's employees will do anything). They have to give you an EA code, if they don't, change stores of just go to the source.
They're ripping you off. Buying it directly will save you any hassle at all...
EB/Gamestop are the devil.
I've just had problems buying anything online. As in it doesn't end up getting to me for months sometimes or not at all.
Can't go wrong with the digital copy....Nothing to get to you....Other than your account saying you bought it the minute you paid for it. I say screw the statue that I have to dust. Give me what I really paid for.
There's no way they took the code out of the box to resell it. If anything, someone stole it out of the box. Everything is inventoried and accounted for. Assuming you're talking about a PC game, there's no way they could sell a "digital code" for it because it's not something that's in the system. Now, I definitely wouldn't put it past them that a not-so-upstanding employee pocketed it, but I can't believe they resold it.
Especially if it's a new version they had to take the disk out to display the box on the floor--they know to take the disk out, but if there are any other codes in the box there's a good chance anyone can just examine the rest of the contents and walk out with them.
Problem with that is that I want the statue lol
Yeah, I wanted the map (statue is a bonus) so I went with the physical collector's edition, too. The code for me was printed directly on the receipt.
Something even worse than this. When I bought my Morrowind as a NEW game from gamestop. I opened it when I got home and there were two construction set disks in the box instead of one const. and one game disk. Both with fingerprints all over them.
It was re-sealed. I was mad.
I can understand that. But you've got to understand that when they get a "new" game, they have to be able to display it. Would you rather have had your new game sitting on the floor that someone had stolen the disk out of or would you rather they have taken the disk out and safely put it away until you bought it?
Now obviously you got the raw end of the supposed outcome as they put the wrong disk back in and (ugh) put fingerprints on it, but with competent workers that won't be the case.
Same happened to me....Hence the big reason I don't care about the physical aspects anymore...the companies, including ESO don't care what happened and won't help you, because it'll cost them to much to investigate. The statues and so on are cool. But I had bought a, what I thought was a PS3 version of the skyrim bundle...only to get it home and it was an xbox version. I watched the employee take what he wanted from the box, as he checked it to make sure "I" didn't take anything, And I got blamed...only saving grace, the employee wasn't smart enough to keep everything he did out of cameras way...Screw, game stores, my only luck was that I was LP for a large company and knew the in's and out's of the CC camera's and was able to point out distinct features and discrepancies.
Competent and Game Stop on the same sentence? You got to be kidding
hahaha, you'd think company execs would actually want to find out what's being said about there companies lol
As a former employee I can and will say that. I'll also that a lot of employees are idiots. But even idiots can be trained. I only did it for the discount after high school. Now that I'm "all grown up" and have a "real job" I don't need that any more and more than afford whatever I want. But just as I can't generalize and say they all do good jobs (they all should do good jobs but that's a different story) you can't generalize and say they're all incompetent. Obviously there are competent workers because for every one story you hear like this one there are hundreds if not thousands of stories that are never told about this situation because they all ended perfectly fine--as one would expect.

I'm specially fond on this part:
Yesterday, while the scandalous news spread, past and present employees began to speak up over the company’s policies – including the ability to “borrow” games before release for an undisclosed amount of time, pricing for refurbishing new and pre-owned titles, and so on.
