Early Game "Safe" Storage Containers?

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:41 pm

Oh if anyone has gotten an "official" house like the one in Megaton/Tenpenny please let us know.

Novac. You can 'rent' a room in the motel for 100 bottle caps. You own it permanently (or until the 'season' as the owner claims, which obviously never comes). It also has a large amount of containers, although I prefer to use the mojave express boxes. You also get access to it very early in the game unless you decided to go the 'difficult' route and head north after goodsprings.

Also, eventually you'll have access to places with much better crafting bench locations. Like a reloading bench next to the best gun store in the game which also has the advantage of having fast travel drop you nearly on top of it.

"..much better crafting bench locations..." ? ?? DO the workbenchs vary in "ability" or something???

I have been placing things in Victors shack and Doc Mitchell's, so far they have not deleted items... plus Victors shack has a bed to sleep in

I second his question. The Fast Travel location in Goodsprings drops you right on top of those too. That's why I was wondering if the metal boxes in the trailer just behind the shops reset or not. I was using that as my storage area for a while. If anyone can check that in GECK, I would appreciate it.

OK, the 2 metal boxes in the old trailer should be safe as they are NOT flagged to respawn. Likewise, the 2 dumpsters beside the store are NOT flagged to respawn, so they should be safe as well. I'm checking the others, brb.

EDIT: OK, I checked Doc's & Victors, and NONE of the containers in either interior are flagged to respawn. So, unless there is something new to this game that causes containers NOT set to respawn to actually respawn, they all should be safe. Hope this helps!

EDIT 2: I checked the gas station and all of them should be safe too. But it is kinda strange that NONE of the containers I've seen so far are set to respawn in their options. Makes me wonder if something else is going on? :whistling:

Hopefully, we can get certification from a dev, but that is great news, thank you.

I meant if we can get certification of the fact that the way you are checking is correct, not the fact that a certain metal box is safe, lol.

No, workbenches do not vary in ability.

I believe the OP, when he stated "much better crafting bench locations," was referring to location convenience. From the hotel room in Novac, there aren't benches right there/nearby. In fact, I've totally forgotten where they are in Novac, but they're not next to your room.

It's just a matter of convenience if say, you store a ton of ammo in your room, run to a bench to do some crafting, then run back to stash stuff away.

Thanks a lot Balok, I've been trying to figure out a safe place to store my stuff [I collect a lot] and having locations cross checked in the GECK is comforting. The worst thing ever is loosing all your awesome stuff to a container that re-set.

People mentioning the schoolhouse, may work well for the PC users with the mod mentioned. However, it is a little bit of a trek for console users. I tried this after seeing the comments on how they are safe. Being that the fast travel point is in front of the saloon, and the school is all the way across town. I found it to be frustrating last night.

I've been stashing loot and gear in the closest container to a landing spot at each town and occasional highway exit (usually a trash can, dumpster, or mailbox) and put a dinosaur toy on top of it. Didn't know about the permanent nature of the NoVac place so I guess I'll move in and collect my junk. I've been stockpiling until I get my survival skill up.

The Work Bench Locker #1 in the Presidential Suite at Lucky 38 seems to clean itself out. Lost a bunch of crafting materials. I'm 99% sure I put them in this locker.

Edit: Reloaded a previous save and yes, I did have crafting materials in there that are now missing in my main save. Beware storing in this container. The Weapon Locker and Wardrobe seem to be safe though.

@ Balok - Can you please check the containers in Easy Pete's house (due south of the Saloon) and the crate nearest the workbenches by the General Store. Thanks ahead of time... :)

I wouldnt be shocked if ALL the containers in goodsprings are safe. They had to know players would want various places to crash and store and realy thats a good place to put alot of em.

Question along these lines: I need to move all the junk I stored in Goodsprings and Novac to my Lucky 38 home now that I have it. Is there a courier dropbox near the Lucky 38? I can't seem to find it if so.

There is one in the "LVB" building (Las Vegas Boulevard) occupied by the NRC, across from The Tops I believe.

RP wise, I'm crashing at his place until a more permanent place for me can be found. :P

If you complete the Wang Dang Atomic Tango quest, you get a rent-free room in the Atomic Wrangler, which even gives you the "Well Rested" buff. However, there's no storage in this room :(

Does anyone know whether your companions nick your stuff if you send them back to the 38? I remember this being a problem in one of the games (can't recall whether Oblivion or Fallout 3).

I pretty much skipped all the places in Freeside on my first play through. I'll be sure and check out the Atomic Wrangler on my current play through though...
