Why cant they just take down the whole torrent website? I mean if it's illegal why are they up there?? they should be taken down they ruin the fun for everything..it's such a disrespect to the people behind the scenes that are making this game because it's not easy it's all hard work and we all know they have been working on this game over 2 years now...not happy about this.but then again we can't come into your pc's and leak that thing out it's one of your employees leaking it out to the torrentz...not our fault.

Taking down an entire website is insansely hard.... Just look at wikileaks. Hosts can easily move domains from country to country to avoid getting taken down. I think that piratebay actually operates from South Africa or something to avoid a lawsuit. Taking down websites is essentially impossible, but it is possible to find the hosts of the torrent and EA will most likely file a lawsuit against the hackers (if they find them). Once anything hits the web it cannot be taken down... This beta will forever be on the internet even if it is "taken off" from the exterior. A direct link with IP address or cache easily fixes that issue, as well as the dozens of seeds the beta already has. Once its up, its impossible to take down completely.

This is Crytek's own fault for keeping a loose lip on their employees, of which they have had several leave over the last few months. The fact that an employee managed to get an entire game on a USB stick and have hack-team crack the obviously (and always) incompetent DRM over a month before release is honestly hilarious. They cannot blame anyone downloading this beta as it most likely consists of fans eager to try the game. Anybody that knows how to mount an iso will clearly know that it is a beta and will contain bugs. This will not hurt sales at all, and companies trying to demonstrate that have failed again and again.

If anything, this should teach Crytek to keep a tighter leap on their own employees in the future and to not include intrusive incompetent DRM in the future which only affects its legal customers.

From what I've seen, Crysis 1 is still better. Consoles destroyed this game.

Everything indicates that so is ... unfortunately.

I heard that Crytek has had some bad employee issues over the last few months... I can see a good reason for an ex. employee leaking out the Crysis 2 beta to some hacker.

FYI: This will not hurt Crysis 2 sales at all. Anybody that knows how to mount an iso image and pirate this will clearly know that its a beta game, it will be no different than the demo that'll be coming out soon anyway. The thing is that piracy does not equal lost sales, that is a high myth that companies like to publisize to exert greater control over their games. Just look at great programs like PhotoShop or Sony Vegas, those get pirated all the freaking time and have actually BOOSTED sales. The only way piracy has negatively affected any industry is the music industry, but that is because nobody with half a brain doesnt has the respect to pay off some 5 man studio's get rich quick scheme by paying money for 3 minute songs, when the real talent themselves makes the money playing concerts.

Piracy is just as bad on the Consoles also. I cant stand these companies that use piracy as an excuse to exert control over the game, which just leads to more piracy anyway. Its a losing battle for companies and its just a fact they have to face. Heck, Cevat cited "piracy" as the reason for "poor" sales of Crysis as an excuse to move towards console development. The industry lookout on piracy is quite pathetic in the gaming industry when other industries like design actually have noted the clear benefits it can have.

i will wait for the final legit product. I want to play the way it's meant to be played. I will personally buy a retail copy, but to boost the number of pre-orders i would recommend putting it steam pre-orders. Many of us upgraded because of crysis 2 , and I think we can show a little restrain to experience crysis 2 in it's godly glory. I think this leak would have minimal impact. People who wanted to buy will buy it anyways. I bet crysis 2 will sell more than 3 million on pc

And cheers to Crytek Devs for keep doing the good work.

As far as the leak itself, as far as I'm aware, the guy leaked it to prove that the game actually does look awesome on the PC and that it really is that good. With that in mind, Crytek brought this up on themselves, by specifically not releasing any PC footage or screenshots. Plus, this horrible delay with the PC demo. Having us wait for months for this demo is just not cool.

Now, that's not to say that I support the guy. No. This was a bad idea. This is also going to ruin his life. He's not going to get a job in the gaming industry ever again. Simple as that.

But I'm just saying, you know, this was much to do with the fact that we've been waiting for this demo for over two weeks. Not even the demo, actually. Just the date of which it will be released. So, he saw that and decided to give us some slack. Threw the dogs a bone, of so to speak.

Personally, I'm not going to download this. I have the game on pre-order. I've had it on pre-order since basically when it was made available for pre-order. I'm going to wait for the full game. However, I don't have that much empathy for Crytek, knowing that they've been planning for us to wait months for this demo, having us wait each day as the release of the demo.

Thanks

I said I want a demo, I did not say I want to pirate games. It is their choice.

Judging by your rhetoric, you're a greedy consumer trying to blackmail a company already working hard to produce a quality product for you. That's pretty low. You are in no position whatsoever to concoct and lord such a "choice" over them.

People are just curious. People just want to know what it looks like. It's not piracy in that sense at all. Crytek, this is your own mistake, you absolutely cannot blame the entire PC community for being pirating jerks just because your guy screwed up. No. And it's quite disheartening to see that this is the case.

And you. That has got to be the most senseless and self-rationalizing thing I've seen on these forums. You have no concrete information on how this happened in the first place. You know you don't. And yet you still jump at the opportunity to blame Crytek for it. They aren't blaming the entire PC community -- they aren't blaming anyone, aside from simply lamenting what's happened.

That, and your bit about how being "curious" as to "what it looks like" is a pathetic, worthless, self-pitying defense of piracy.

Either I just got trolled hard, or this community's really going down the tubes.
I'm buying the limited edition. I'm not pirating whatever builds may come. And I sincerely hope this thread is closed soon, because people will definitely want to make it their new mouthpiece for the PC demo.

LOL DUDE.

Pirating does not equal lost sales. Companies use pirating as an excuse for exerting higher control over their games. It has been proven time and time again that piracy does not affect sales in any way but positively for the gaming industry... Even the design industry has accepted the benefits that PhotoShop pirates have to their company.

The gaming industry is just a bunch of stuck up bastards -- kinda like the music industry. Except that the gaming industry still has the respect of its community to purchase the games.

@SacredGray, What the hell are you talking about? First of all, can you not read? Let me help you with that:
"Piracy continues to damage the PC development community."

Secondly, I'm far more aware of this situation than you could even possibly imagine.

Third, it's not a defense. It's nowhere near defense. It's an explanation.

This has nothing to do with piracy in that sense. This has no direct relation to PC gaming in specific. This, my friend, is a leak. It was leaked by a Crytek/EA employee. I'm not down for PC gamers being blamed for an inside screwup. This is not a case of pirating a copy of the game. This is a leak. And the reason why people download it, is because they're curious. A lot of them will probably buy the game anyway or has already done so, via pre-order.

And as for the demo, refer to my previous post.

From what I've seen, Crysis 1 is still better. Consoles destroyed this game.

Everything indicates that so is ... unfortunately.

1. Its an old build
2. Its dx9
3. Its medium settings

Dont kid yourself. PC Crysis 2 is going to dominate Crysis 1 in graphics. A company cant downgrade their game in the graphics department. That has never been done before.

On topic, Crytek really deserved better than this. I feel bad.

I hope that whoever dwnlded and liked it the game will buy it when it comes out...

I speak not only graphics but also gameplay and open spaces ... Crysis 2 in those 2 qualities have been reduced drastically.
It shows that freedom of movement is more limited now.
They have turned Crysis 2 in a game pasillero like CoD or Fear.

Oh and this build is 13/01/2011 ... so it is not so old.

I really hope that crytek releases the editor and .cry files officially for pc, so modding won't be some illegal thing on the game

this beta showed what a great game crysis 2 is on pc, even while not being enjoyable due to many bugs..

people: buying the game is worth it.

Actually, I think there is DX11 in it. It was just configured to do DX9 at the time. Its from 1/13. Do you seriously think they would not have DX11 in it by now? As for medium settings, again, thats probably just how its configured. We shall see.

Greedy because I want to test drive before buying? Greedy because I want to try before I buy? Your definition of the word 'greedy' differs from most then.

Blackmail a company working hard.... Amusing. Would you like me to list the MASSIVE amount of games released in poor condition, unplayable, or simply awful in quality? We were victims of their trumpet lording how great their game would be, and it turned out AWFUL, and we lost money for having faith in them. The demo is how we cannot argue with each other. Release that & there will be no argument, nor excuses, and certainly no excuse to download a pirated version.

I as a consumer am in no position to lord a choice? So you are simply saying: As a consumer you have no right to request, to prefer, nor to demand anything? Without the consumer all they have is a 'quality product' which no-one buys.

It works both ways in the consumer market, fact, and you are saying that it does not.

You keep taking it up your behind while I watch & laugh.

No demo: I d/l the pirate version. I like it, I buy it - FACT. I refuse to let the gaming industry continually abuse gamers with their AWFUL products half the time.

EDIT: I see a similar topic is already stickied so you can lock this one I guess.

Piracy is killing PC gaming and is the main reason why Crytek was forced to branch out into console gaming.

The less people support PC piracy the more feasible PC will be as a platform!

DO NOT go and download the full leaked Crysis 2 version that people are downloading on torrents!!!! yes you can have access to the full game right now a month before release, but at the same time you are killing PC gaming.

Maybe the leak was slightly a good thing. I have seen a ton of people on different websites who are pre-ordering based on what they played on the leaked version and saying a lot of good things about it which will make other non-believers want to buy the game too. They all said it was amazing even though it had a lot of glitches and wasn't the best graphics.

Plus, I doubt people will just dwnld the leaked gameplay without buying the retail version. The PC Crysis is known for its graphics and people who will download the leaked version will want to try it with max graphics, glitch free, and with multiplayer.

I wont dwnld it though and hopefully no one tells me any spoilers. I want my C2 to be like my C1 - 100% spoiler free.
