"Earn 10,000 XXXXX" Achievements

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 8:32 am

I've been wondering; are the "Earn 10,000 XXXXX" achievements per character, or for all characters combined? Because I still need to get the 10,000 points of Explosive damage, and 10,000 points healed through food, and I'm wondering if the points I have from previous characters will count towards the points of my achievement character, or if I'm working from 0 again.

No you have to earn those achievements with a single character. Just a hint on some of these. For the 10k health, go into some water and start drowning, as you take damage keep taking stimpacks (you'll need a lot). Try to set a hotkey for it. For the 10k unarmed, equip a high powered glove like Pushy or Ballistic Fist, tell your followers to wait, and go kill everyone on the strip and in the casinos. Repeat this for the 10k melee using some big power weapon like Oh Baby! As for the rest, I don't know any easy way to get them unless you just play the game with that kind of weapon only.

Explosives is easy if you get a few tight packs of enemies and get a missile in.
Melee was the easiest IMO. A Sneak Kill with the axe netted me around 500 to 650 damage per hit.

Energy Weapons is way easy with the upgraded holorifle. I completed dead money with it, went to the deathclaw promonotory and got my achievement right there, without having used any other EW on that character whatsoever. Maybe toss Meltdown into the mix if you can keep them out of your personal bubble.

I don't need any of those....I need the 10,000 healing from food, and I only have about 4,000......I'm starting to doubt there is enough food in the Wasteland to get this.....

It takes awhile but it's possible with some of the heavier healing foods

A really high Survival skill helps too, since the higher it is the more the food heals and the better the items you can make.

All food sources refresh every 73 hours, so there shouldn't be a problem with getting enough of them to manage it. Carrying it all at once might be an issue, though.

I really struggled with the food trophy too. I did develop a cunning way to achieve it though. Assuming you have amassed a decent amount of food, and completed DM.

Use the Vending machine to fill your bp and your companions bp's up with all kinds of junk food blamco etc..

Travel to new vegas steel, kill the enemies if neccessary. Drop down to the bottom where there are two white hot chunks of steel. Run backwards and forwards onto the hot steel until you're almost dead and then munch on enough food to refill your health. (A little math helps here) You can use the wait function to speed this up also.. Rinse repeat for a while until you've healed 10k worth and got your achievement.

Is there some way to tell how many points you have so far, on PC? I still need healing from food and from stimpaks, and melee damage, but I have no idea how much more I need to reach the goals.

Thank you. I would never have found it!

Oh, well, since I'm at 4046/10000 for Desert Survivalist, I don't think that's going to happen. Stimpaks even worse, since I've been concentrating on healing with food. However, melee damage will be reachable, if I avoid the end game for a (fairly long) while: 7871/10000.

Craft your own foods and kick up the survival skill. Some foodstuffs outclass Stims in hardcoe mode as well

Edit: I did Melee Damage in an hour. Sneak Crits net me about 750 damage per hit

Take on higher-end enemies in light armor and you can end up doing a lot of healing. Alternatively, go Cazador hunting with no antivenom, you need quite a bit of food/stims to counter more than two applications of their poison.

It really does add up quickly, especially if you have a high Survival skill and make a lot of the better foodstuffs. At 100 skill some of them can heal almost 200 HP per use (I've seen 165 myself on a couple of them), and since you'll have over 300 HP you can get full use out of each one if you do it right.

It does take a while at first since your skills are low and you cannot yet make the better items. My current character is only at 635 points from food at L12, however that's from only 3 or 4 fights and one of those accounted for almost half that total.

Well, I now have all achievements, so I'm done until the next DLC, or until Obsidian patches some of the glitched quests I have (like Young Hearts).

Melee turned out to be quick: I took my Shishkebob and went fiend hunting in the South Vegas Ruins. Presto. My survival skill is 80 or so, I just have to get a lot of damage inflicted on myself. I suppose I could go tap dancing on red hot steel, or deathclaw hunting wearing a thong . . . no wait, forget that last.
