An Earthling in Skyrim

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 2:22 pm

Now that I've posted the first part of my unadventure in Skyrim, I figured it might be useful to have a topic here which I can update to let people know when I've posted a new entry. So that's what this is. :)

If you're unfamiliar with my blog, here's a quick summary:

What I want to undertake is to attempt to play Skyrim as if I had been literally transported into the game world when I first play it. I will be playing blind, behaving as I would if I were actually in the situations that arise, and if I die I’m dead. Permanently. There are no save games in real life. This could be in equal turns a comedy and survival horror, but my feeling is that it will inexorably turn a few shades more tragic at some point. I’m going to die in Skyrim, the only uncertainties are how, and when. I wonder just how long I’ll last…

I also have a set of rules I have to follow to make sure I act as if it were actually the real me - http://anearthlinginskyrim.wordpress.com/the-rules/.

And this is the list of posts I'll be updating.
  • http://anearthlinginskyrim.wordpress.com/2011/11/15/day-two-shhh-im-hunting-wabbits/
  • http://anearthlinginskyrim.wordpress.com/2011/11/17/days-two-three-a-mammoth-task/

Hopefully some people will find it entertaining, I'm already having a blast writing it. Cheers!

Just posted the second day (part one) of my silly unadventure. What menial tasks will I do? What adventure will I completely avoid? Will I ever find something warm to wear? :cold:
Stay tuned for the mundane activities of William: Earthling ordinaire!!

Very interesting, I'll be looking forward to these updates! Is this the only style you are going to play? Or will you have a second game going as well to do the main quest and side quest?

Good idea... Very much in the style of Edgar Rice Burroughs... John Carter of Mars.

Except in this one? You're going to have to be the ultimate coward... I give you until day 7 until you're lying in a ditch breathing your last, with memories of the green hills of earth fading in the. Fading light.

It's a nasty world *if* you venture out into it. You could live for years within a single town. Until a dragon comes by.

I have a second game going, but I'm making sure to steer well clear of where my blog character is, and keeping to the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild quest lines to avoid any overlap (as much as possible).

I'm playing what I call a "Trickster Archer"; using Illusion magic while hidden to mind control groups into fighting each other and then picking off survivors or lone enemies with poisoned arrows. It's a pretty fun build, but I die pretty fast if they ever find me.

Yup, cowardice is very much the game plan. I'm hoping to pick up a bodyguard at some point so I last a few more days, but I'm a little concerned by just how fast smithing and alchemy have levelled me - each increase makes my survival odds go down as I see it...

Third entry is up. My days in Skyrim have been a bit fuller than I expected, so I've had to split day 3 and 3 up to make posts a manageable read. Hopefully things will be a bit more sedate by day 4... :)

But but... I thought the point of a video game was to get away from your real life?

For someone just transported to an alternate dimension at least the first week needs to be devoted to svcking your thumb in the fettle position. Then another week of hiding in the woods eating dirt and screaming at anything that comes close......and maybe week 3 getting the courage to go close to a tiny town and investigate.
