A Easier, more convienient save system

Post » Sat Nov 27, 2010 5:21 am

I loved the save system in oblivion, but i think it can be better. I think the save list should have a Character sortting system. for example if i hit load it should have a saved character list ( based on the ingame choosen list) then apon choosing a character it should have a sub list the same as the older games. Or like in DragonAge2 there is a save list when you hit load theres a list, then pressing a button, i think x, will allow you to choose a different characters save list. What do you think?

Easier system? You can save wherever and whenever you want. How much easier can it get?

what i mean is that i have multiple characters and i am always looking throught the list to find the right save to load, out of a scattered list of character names, and even after that which save for that character.

The OP is talking about having multiple Character folders so that you don't accidently overwrite a save. I never had that problem in Oblivion although I did in FO3/New Vegas. This would be a feature that I would like to see in Skyrim.

right and just adding folders, even this far along, wouldnt be extreamly hard to do, or take much time.

Yes, this topic has come up a number of times before. General consensus is that, yes, it'd be nice to have a save folder / profile system like the recent Bioware games and others. And then there's always a couple of folks tossing out "if you can't keep track of your saves, that's your problem." :)

Ya, I definitely support a more organized system. I'd like the option to split my saves into different categories.

The only problem I ever have with this is the autosave and the quicksave... It would be nice to have those in specific folders..

honestly all i want out of the new system is that when the file size bloats it doesn't cause game crippling graphical glitches and freezes then going all windows ME and self destructs

It would be a lot more organized if they just listed the saves by the name of the character vs time. Most frequent save on that character will show up but If I have 2 saves on Bill and 2 Saves on Sam
both Bills will show up then Sams

But ya Something is needed

It seems that on skyrim they "plan" on making everything much easier to manage. Source is game informer. It would be a safe assumption that they will have such a feature.

I think just about every game can benefit from multiple autosave slots.

Beyond that, I see no reason why we shouldn't have quick save/quick load on the consoles. It never made sense to me why console gamers should be forced to wade through extra menus, when you could just toss up immediate quick save/load options right on the start menu.

So...multiple autosave slots and a quick save slot for all versions of the game. Make it happen Bethesda!

It's more the ease of which you can load games, rather than saving. As they all get saved in a chronological heap

It is indeed very simple and not hard to optimize at all. Just make a profile for each character. Sick of your character? Delete his/her profile. Frankly it's criminal that gamesas hasn't done this in prior games

i suppose that would be a nice thing to have, by the way, it was in dragon age: origins, too... not just dragon age 2...

anyway, i do make alot of characters, it might be nice to have them seperate so i dont accidentally save over one, it hasnt happened so far, but you never know... humans are made to make mistakes.

I'd like that a lot :) I have many characters and this would be much easier to keep track of them and delete the saves I don't want.

I agree with the idea, it is nothing new(first saw it used in KotOR 2, that was.. 2005?) and should always be used in RPG's in my opinion.
But I also had the opinion they should tweak quick and auto saves a little, so that each has 3 saves.
What I mean is, you save once, then 2nd time it creats a new savegame, 3rd time a new again, and then 4rth time it overwrites the first again.
I dont really so any reason not to do it, save games these days cost just about no hardrive space(compared to when they were first invented) and if you have character folders now, it should not be impossible to keep track due to 4 more savegames.(I mean really, if they DO NOT add it, you will just end up creating a lot of manuel in menue savegames, which make everything just the more confusing. Also, savegames sometimes become corrupt or just break(due to crashing while saving) and as such more then 1 auto save in a game that goes for so many hours, is really important.)
