Easiest DF character to play?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 1:06 pm

Hi, I have played around with DF before but I am wondering what is the easiest DF character to play that I can get the most out of using with their skills? Thanks.

Is it also possible to have lowered magic in daylight but increased in darkness and then lowered magic in darkness but increased in daylight and have no bonus but still get the easier to level up thing going on?

Well, "increased magicka in daylight/darkness" isn't an option, only decreased. That said, if you give yourself 3xINT in magicka, and then decreased in both light conditions, you'll still end up with about 2xINT overall, along with a lower difficulty dagger.

The best class is to make your own.

Some amount of magic is good to have, mostly for the Anchor/Recall spell to get you out of dungeons and back to cities quick. Levitate and slowfall are also very good to have, and magical skill allows you to advance in the Mages guild which gives you access to the good magic items and teleporter.

My character that I've had good luck with?
High Elf
20 HP/lvl

Primary:
Long Blade, Critical Strike, Dodging
Major:
Restoration, Medical, Thaumaturgy
Minor:
Alteration, Destruction, Illusion, Mysticism, Running, and Stealth

Advantages/Disadvantages
Atheleticism
Increased Magery 3x
Expertise in Long Blade
Crit. weak to poison
Crit. weak to disease

Str 60
Int 40
Wil 40
Agi 70
End 50
Per 40
Spd 70
Lck 30

Of course you need to take the ebony dagger. DO IT.

Also, get your agi and spd to 80 when you roll stats. It'll make it so much more easy. GL, and have fun

If you're up for a challenge, yes! You can use the few essential spells mentioned above via magic items and scrolls.

But like I said, you can't get those magic items very well without having the magical skill to advance in the guild. I don't think there were any scrolls in the game.

Tipton made a mod to allow Potions of Recall. Non-magic character rejoice.

Easiest character to play from standard classes is probably the Spellsword.

You can definitely acquire anything you need while adventuring. No guarantees, so you might have to be persistent, but it can be done.

Also note that you do not, strictly speaking, need mark/recall. You might need levitation, but I think you can even get around that need.

I don't think there were any scrolls in the game.

You got me there; I don't remember. If I'm off, I was probably just thinking of potion recipes and conflating DF with a subsequent game.

Judging by the books and lore, Barenziah is the easiest character in Daggerfall.

Be mage/combat oriented, a Breton or High Elf.

I'd say get increased magica 3x AND Spell Absorption. Avoid increasing your hit points, as the enemies also get more hit points. In order to balance the difficulty dagger out, get a critical weakness to disease and poison. My experience is that you don't get that many more diseases (it only affects how often it happens) nor do you get poisoned that often. For fine-tune balancing of the Dagger, now you can adjust the hit points.

Avoid skills that will make you level up too fast (and aren't that important) like medical and dodging. Critical Strike might be one too.

I disagree that critical strike is one of the skills that should be downgraded because it can advance a character too quickly. It only gets checked on a successful strike, and it is invaluable against difficult enemies. I usually place it as a Major skill, as this makes raising it a little easier.

Do we need to make the game more easy? Never had any problems when using no magic, but I don't think that even after all these years I have goten more than about halfway through the mainquest and to level 12 or so.

I leave out critical strike as I think it's boring to knock down the npcs in one slash.
