[censored] the land? Trample over the natives' way of life and respect for nature? Get rich off of the hard labour of miners? Count me in, Factor.

How do you expect East Empire Company to come back when even the Empire itself is crumbling?

Well there must still be some Empire left, how else do you explain the civil war in Skyrim?

I didn't say the Empire was gone... just that it was crumbling, which it is.
There's not much left of it. So East Empire Company would probably be one of the first things to go away.
And the civil war is about the king getting murdered, and lots of tension between different high families. How the Empire is crumbling just adds on to that. At least that's how I interpret it.

Still, similar quests to theirs could be given to other people/factions, so there's no loss really :P

In Oblivion people were saying Raven Rock was losing money, and that Nords were taking over the island. I don't think they could fare well in Skyrim

It would be nice to see a presence there though. One of my favorite aspects of Morrowind was the diverse cultures in the town structure (some being imperial, some dunmer).
It's already been confirmed all the cities in Skyrim will be represent different nordic cultures, but I'm hoping that at least one of the holds (smaller cities) will be an Imperial Garrison

Hell yes! The empire's disarray only makes the potential presence of the EEC more tantalizing in terms of plot hooks.

For instance, the EEC might have gained stability with the Medes, explored profitable options in Skyrim, and then when the Empire began to lose support there, the EEC 1) lost some imperial support, and 2) lost some imperial moral fiber (or lack thereof, depending on your perspective). This sets up an environment where the EEC has to become more mercenary and less choosy and clean to survive, whilst balancing any sense of integrity they might have had. Isn't that a perfect mirror of the Falco/Carnius dichotomy that we loved from Bloodmoon?

To my understanding the kings death was just the "nug out of the door" needed to get the civil war going, which in turn is about seceding from the crumbling Empire. But you are right, I don't see how the EEC would still be around.
