easy way to earn a lot of caps ( without cheats if course)

Producing Jet and selling if course is in my book the easy way to earn a lot of caps,

You can find plastic everywhere, buy shipments of fertilzer from a trader..and voila ....

I wonder , is there a better way ?

Purified water farms, then put your stores near the workbench at the settlement also worthwhile moving the fast travel point to just in front of the workbench, visit every couple of days pick up the purified water and sell it to your vendors

Keep a set of charisma boosting clothes and some graqe mentats. With those two easy to do things done I just sell random weapons I pick up, especially the junk legendaries I don't keep for myself. This usually affords me all the ammo I need plus shipments of materials should I need them. You can be a drug dealer too if you want without having to use any of your salvage. Just follow the questline that begins at the colonial taphouse in diamond city. It'll eventually lead you large quantities of various drugs you can keep for yourself or sell at your leisure.

Brahmin also produce fertilizer. So, Brahmin, plastic.... and shipments...

Jet nets you more caps than water, but water is has less materials technically. For your 1 time fee for a large purifier, it nets you 30+ daily water sometimes. Where as if you want 150 jet, you need like 150 of both fertilizer and plastic. yeah sure you'll get like 3000 caps or so for it, but water does cost less in the long run.

Also, you can't help Brahmins strolling in sooner or later. Jon Lun has the honorable job of collecting what they're leaving.

Spoiler
I sell .38 ammunition (with the scrounger perk) and 5mm when I am out of 38 in most of my trades (I sell enough so that I almost always receive caps instead of spend them though I am mostly only buying ammo I need or occasionally stuff I need for settlements). Also, I save/sell 5.56 cal - with 14 charisma and graqe mentats I get 2 caps per unit of ammo - handy when I am buying something expensive, not worthwhile for most transactions, however.

I could also sell extra weapons, I suppose, but my character is too weak to carry them, mostly.

Water production leads to the need to built though settlements, including defences and I've been told that if there is no population the power generators and water purifiers will breakdown over time.......so you have to essentially build settlements to get water, while Jet can be produce simply through scavenging, although Brahmin help in keeping a stock of Fertilizer.

So I'd say both really good ways to earn lots of caps but Jet is easier to produce without building an infrastructure, Water farms can produce a lot more product over time to sell though.

Edit: I'm really going to have to try building a totally automated settlement to see if the equipment actually degrades with no population and if so how long it takes since it would quite useful to build automated water farms.

I've never seen equipment spontaneously fail without a raider attack. Is that a confirmed thing or possibly the result of an attack that was never notified?

I've been told that there is a bug caused by fast travel directly to a settlement that is under attack or been attacked......fast travelling nearby instead is supposed to prevent it happening.

I've had the equipment and crops being damaged in front of me and also had the self fixing, where the power and defences fixed themselves after all being damaged in front of me.

Yes, I've seen turrets sometimes fix themselves and sometimes not. Nothing else has ever fixed itself. But if no other undocumented feature ever gets changed I just want an audible alarm when an attack starts, including when I'm in workbench mode.

Isn't there an alarm you can build that goes off during attacks?

That is the siren I believe (a setller will run to set one off apparently).....but only really useful if your at a settlement and not particularly useful in any other way since settlers seem to all react at the same time to threats anyway.

I actually figured this out today. I built one just out of curiosity at Sanctuary. It functions the same way as the bell and sounds more dramatic though, so that's a plus lol

Drug dealers? Nobody has a problem with this? :P

Now the question is, is Jet and stuff legal drugs like over the counter drugs would be legal?

The only time I spent caps in the game was for shop building.

For everything else: pre-war money. Seriously, who buys stuff with caps when pre-war money gives 4 caps per bill?

My thought when I saw this title was earning cals in a Beth game? That's like trying to find chopsticks in China. ????????
