Eating and sleeping animations!

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 9:17 am

Hi first of all sorry if my english its bad

ok now, i have to say one litle thing that i HATE in skyrim, why the NPCs have eating sleeping and drink animation and the PC doesnt? i mean some people will say ''durrr its useless it would get annoying durrr'' but PEOPLE!! isnt the sit down in chair animation useless too? but it adds inmersion to the game.
so i thinked about it and, why not add a toggle in the options menu?! so you can enable and disable.

i know maybe ur fighting with a dragon and you have to eat to recover health, well its simple when ur fighting. the animation should be turned off auto (or u will be killed) and the only time the animation should show up 100% is when your sit down in a chair, and when ur sit down in a chair the health should recover like 30% to 40% more cuz ur like in rest mode.

Also there should be sleeping animarion, just like in fallout new vegas. and all of this should go with a PATCH, and its not that hard if you think about it, its pretty much copy paste the npc animations and add it to the PC

i think thats pretty much it, maybe for someone is useless but it adds alot more realism to the game, what do u guys say? ;D

It would also be nice to have animations for drinking potions.

That would be a nice little touch. Not that helpful during a fight, but then it's up to the player whether they want to eat and drink in the middle of a fight.

I loved the "emote" menu in Neverwinter Nights. There was a mod for Oblivion that did about the same, and no doubt someone will make one for Skyrim too.

From what i've heard Beth made some big changes on the animation system, so adding completely new animations will be troublesome, if at all possible, but all the ones this would require already exist for the NPCs and should not be a problem.

Yeah, every game I play, I'm always thinking "Why can't this just be the Sims?"

There should be dressing animations, and even animations for washing your own clothes and armor, and takes longer to put on armor because each piece has to be fitted and secured individually.

And don't even get me started on the fact that there's no teeth-brushing animation. Dragonborn's gonna need to call the denistborn in no time at all! Dovahkiin might be able to slay a dragon or two, but damn, is the personal hygiene dept. lacking.

Excuse me?

If I have something to say that doesn't violate the rules of the board, I will say it, and in a manner I wish as my own expression.

But don't think you can tell someone else to shut up just because you don't like what they're saying. Hypocrite.

Actually I'd really like it during combat also. I rmember in the old game " Blade of darkness" both you and the NPCs had to do drinking animations top use potions on combat or any other time.. That would be my gold standard

I agree. If there were eating animations, I'd spend a little more time in the inns. Currently there's no point in sitting down, ordering food, and "eating" said food in a millisecond. Might as well rent the room and head straight to bed. It would also be cool to see that your character doesn't actually sleep standing up beside the bed...

In fact, a mod that added more content to inns would be nice.

Is there an actual sleeping animation? a lot of the time when I see sleeping npcs, they appear so stiff that it's like they are dead.

I think that it would be awesome to have sleeping animations, but am not that sure about eating/drinking ones (at least not yet).
Also, all the animations should be available in 1st person and all existing forced 3rd person should be fixed already!

I agree somewhat with the op. I feel there are some animations absent which break the immersion. A big one for me is the lifts in Dwarven ruins - pull the lever, and woosh, black screen, fade into new location. I really wish there was lift animation (and random attacks, been playing too much Dead Space 2).

An animation wheel or command list would be good. I have suggested this before the game was launched but the Powers That Be has not seen fit to include it.

Basically, like what you find in most MMORPGs, you get a special list of animation to choose from and some of them have ingame uses.

Eating (Double effect when eating slowly)
Drinking (Double effect when drinking slowly)
Sitting (Regenerate HP, MP, SP faster by 100%)
Dancing
Clapping
Play equipped instrument
Sleeping (With portable tent in inventory)
Kissing (Only with spouse)

Then take out that annoying activation for tables/chairs so picking up things will not suddenly force you to watch a 3 second animation. Use the animation wheel when you are near instead to sit on those.

The final good point is that modders get a place to place their own animation triggers, instead of as a spell, or when equipping an item.

Man, I wish the musical instruments were equipable! It would be great to play some music...

I think it would be cool if there were a toggle for such animations. Those who want it get it, those who couldn't care less don't have to have it.

One argument in favor of animations for eating and drinking potions would be that it would keep people from doing this stuff in combat - which is extraordinarily dumb. I made a whole thread about having menus that didn't pause the game (except for the System menu, so you could save while paused and go take a pee-break) and one of the alternative ideas was to have animations for these things, to make it impossible to spam potions during combat.

It's funny how in terms of the healing qualities of food in games we haven't evolved from those old arcade beat em ups like Cadillacs & Dinosaurs where you would smash a pile of old rubber tires or a barrel and find a tasty looking fried chicken.
