Ebay Treasure Hunt

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 7:35 pm

So while looking for NES games on Ebay, I find http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-FINAL-FANTASY-ORB-ONLY-50-MADE-/170628476555?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item27ba3fee8b.

What a completely random thing to find. I didn't even know these things existed.

What sort of things have you found or can find that are so rare that they are obnoxiously expensive.

Try to keep it on Ebay.

Happy hunting!

The funny thing is I bought one like the gold one but normal colored for a hundred bucks in my local mall, http://www.amazon.com/Gears-Amazon-com-Exclusive-Lancer-Xbox-360/dp/B001CLYL24/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1303655005&sr=8-1. I even saw one go for $800 once.

The http://cgi.ebay.com/Star-Wars-Galaxies-Empire-Divided-Collectors-E-/160572266862?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item2562da596e is pretty expensive at times, considering I got mine for $25. :P

Wait about 10 years. Then put sell it off for a hefty profit. Or keep it. :P

I'm keeping it, it's waaaay too awesome to sell. :P

There aren't any on Ebay at the moment, but I have an Alan Wake poster signed my the development staff over at Remedy. It has 42 signatures on it and afaik there are only five that currently exist. :o

Can you say money bomb in ten years? Again, not that I'd ever sell it.

OST for God of War II. And don't even ask about PoP: Sands of Time.

I managed to snag the multi-disc set OST for Okami for about $80, had to import it from Japan. Was able to get OST for Shadow of the Colossus and Ico for about $15 (total price for both), so that's cool. But I really want the God of War music, but I'm so not dropping $50+ for each.

Also, the game Albion is very rare, goes for as much as a modern game. I want to play it, I've heard it's good, but I'm not spending that much for it!

The best one I saw was the hot dog from a Seattle Seahawks football game that someone tried to sell on ebay. I know at one point the price was over $5,000, I don't remember what ended up happening though.

Why would a hot dog fetch that much? Did the seller claim that a player bit off it?

Looking around a bit has slightly refreshed my memory. The hot dog was alleged sold during the 2006 NFC Championship Game at Qwest Field in Seattle. Seattle won putting them in their first and only Super Bowl and I guess the hot dog was supposed to be a collector's item, it was vacuum-sealed and frozen. I haven't been able to find an actual news story, though I know they are out there because I have read them.

EDIT: Found one

I tend to like the auctions where people sell random stuff like a bag of M&Ms or a box of Cereal. They usually do it in order to raise money for a charity or what not, and often send special prizes to the person who won the auction(beyond the actual box of cereal or M&Ms). Always entertaining to watch as it gets bid up, and sorta makes your heart feel good knowing there are still nice people out there. ^^

I'm very much into vintage watches, and frequently check if there are any good deals on Ebay. Some rare models can go for 10 times their original price (even after adjusting for inflation).

What is that orb thing though?

The question isn't if you can afford to buy it, it's if you can afford not to buy it:

(I know it's not on Ebay but same premise)

That SWG collector's edition is worthless since the game isn't doing so well. Just like my CE's of EQ2 are in the toilet since they are scrapping servers right and left. Doesn't really surprise me that people put things up for that kind of price. As said just because something is really old and/or in limited print doesn't make it valuable.

I think a single corn flake was once sold for 20 bucks or something. It just doesn't make any sense...you can buy thousands for that money!

Game not doing well =/= everything about it being worthless. And if something being, I don't know, rare doesn't make it valuable, then why did that unopened copy of whatever sports game that was go for like $30,000?

Anyway, the thread is about finding things that cost a lot on eBay, not whether or not you think something is worthless or not. And whether the SWG CE is worthless or not, it has value to me.

I have a baseball autographed by Buzz Aldrin, Louis Armstrong and that other guy. Of course, I wouldn't sell it.

My Aunt supposedly has a Babe Ruth card tucked away somewhere.

So far I haven't seen anything outrageous since that crystal ball thing.

Wow. If I had money to waste on http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-World-Championships-1990-NES-Nintendo-Grey-Game-A-/400212044741?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item5d2e7f2bc5, I totally would.
