Post » Sat Dec 11, 2010 6:03 am

Okey, I read something about this Ebonarm guy on UESP. He's the "God of War", apparently... but I have never heard of him.. So who is he? Aedra? Deadra? Something else?
Anybody know?

I think he's a person who's worshiped. Like a saint.

there isn't much info on him out there. Hopefully Bethesda will expand upon this person in future games or books

Ebonarm was brutally murdered by Kratos, the true God of War. :P

Whatever Ebonarm truly is truly is, he doesn't seem to be liked by the Daedric Princes.

As best I can tell (and based on long past discussions) Ebonarm was a human who mantled the original aspect of Shor as a war-god of humans, opposed to the elves and their gods. So while he kept his form and much of his personality, like the Nerevarine and Divine Crusader did when mantling Nerevar and Pelinal, he was also changed into a being seperate and greater, a god in human guise upon the earth.

Why must he be Shor? There are so many different warrior gods in Arena Mundus: Reman, Shandar, Stuhn\Tsun, not speaking of Yokudan spawn of war-gods.
And though Ebonarm is Nordic in origin, he seems to have a great influence in at least certain parts of Hammerfell and High Rock, too.

Reman was an aspect of shor. Tsun and Stuhn were Brothers who helped Shor in battle, and Stuhn isn't as much of a warrior god as a merciful fighter; he taught nords to take prisoners of war, and because a god is defined by his/her sphere, not the other way around – fighting against adversity/creating/space (as apposed to time) is Shor's sphere of influence.

Reman was an aspect of shor.
Hm, I didn't know that. Of course, his uncommon birth grantes him somewhat divine status, but how Shor involved there?

Yes. Note than Ebonarm in the book arrives to stop the useless battle; he is not the god of massacre and slaughter, but, rather, god and protector of warriors. And, also, Stendarr (possibly, Shandar), successor of Stuhn and god of mercy, still patrones Imperial legion, :).

I tend to assume Shor because he is Nordic in origin, and while he may have importance in some Redguard and Breton towns, pre-Septim era those regions would usually be in flux, either by trade or war, so a lot of culture would move about.

And prow, I know he's not been mentioned since Daggerfall, but it could be that we simply haven't seen a province where he would be mentioned since then. If TESV is in Skyrim, and he isn't mentioned once, I'll never speak of him again. But if even one person mentions him, I'll assume he is at least a minor cult.

And a lot of culture has changed.
