Ebony Armor

Post » Wed Jun 29, 2011 3:37 pm

I was reading up on some of the changes in TES from Oblivion to Skyrim, and I read that Morrowind was pretty much destroyed. Isn't a place in Morrowind the main producer of ebony armor? If so, wouldn't ebony armor be much more rare now that it is being produced much less? Couldn't the same thing be said of daedric armor?

One would hope both armor types are already rare regardless.

well..... Vvarvadell(sp) was destroyed, the rest of it was conquered by the argonians... with all that happeneing, id imagine it'll be more expensive/ rare, but probably more powerful too.

...wait, how would it be automagically more powerful?

well...blacksmiths do handle rare materials with better care than materials he can just buy cheaply, making for higher quality work than normal.

it's not a matter of the material being more powerful than before but rather the craftsmanship.

Gameplay-wise, not story-wise. Rarer item tends to = more powerful, in games.

->conclusion: Argonians will make boots & helmets just for their race (& Khajiit).
Imagine ebony helmets/boots only wearable for beast races...
(I'm kidding...just a quick thought which came to mind)

Has it ever weirded anyone else out that Ebony is not a mined stone but actually a type of wood?

Just pointing that out, I imagine that the Ebony in Tamriel however is just a different thing with the same name as the Ebony in our world. Retcon'd! ;)

Yeah ebony in elder scrolls is a completely different material, the only thing being the same is the name. In TES ebony is a heavy dark colored metal mined from underground. I dont think they actually have ebony wood in TES, at least i dont remember hearing anything about it.

It's been much longer since they've produced any Dwemer armor and that's still all over the place. Maybe the eruption replenished the ebony and glass deposits for whatever miners are daring enough to go there now.

It was already almost the best in the game. Why does it need a revamp or more power?

Ebony is volcanic glass. Red Mountain is a volcano. It blew up. Hence, raw ebony is probably a lot more common.

That would be obsidian, unless ebony = obsidian in TES. I don't really know myself, but ebony, which everyone is considering a metal here it seems like, would be completely different than real obsidian.
