ebony weapons vs. glass weapons

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 12:01 am

a lot of people don′t decide witch one is better from my point of view is base on the character build and witch tree you chose for smiting
if your character is a heavy class(knight, warrior.) you go to the ebony perk in the smiting tree witch upgrade the weapon.
but i find out wend i made a archer type i go to the light armor perk and get the glass bow and sword to be upgrade even more than the ebony in that moment.
people probably thing that i am very stupid for posting something so simple but a lot of people don′t know about this an only see the first number of the weapon damage and don′t thing about later :thanks:

ebony has higher stats than glass. In the big scheme of things it is not such a huge difference that it should interfere with personal preference. I use skyforge steel swords and elven war axes for very long periods of time.

The difference between Glass and Ebony is negligible so go for it. :P Plus, Glass weapons are frigging beautiful. :o

If you spec into light then you get glass. Heavy is ebony. Stick to what you spec into. It will be higher than what you didn't spec into. There's not much of a differance in stats anyways.

The end difference between Ebony and Glass is likely minimal and is relatively irrelevant. Its better to choice based on play style and preference, but if pure stats are what matter most, Ebony will end with higher stats across the board.

might be important to point out that Dawnguard will be bringing dragon weapons, reachable by light armor and heavy armor exclusive specs.

I agree, glass looks incredible in Skyrim. On my first character, when I got glass armor and helm, I just stood there for a long time and let the camera revolve around her in third person.

People are looking at this the wrong way-

if you go light and hit glass- glass is superior to ebony in your game.

If you go heavy and hit ebony- ebony is superior to glass in your game.

Best is just what you made it. It would be a terrible waste to go both sides.

I wish the mannequins displayed properly because I would love to put a set on it. Until then I'll have to settle for the shield and sword plaque.

I went up both sides on both of my characters so I could make either for followers and NPCs that I like. :P

I just started playing again, with the new patch. Are mannequins not fixed yet??

As an aside, the first time I saw mannequins in the game was in Proudspire. I went into the basemant and saw two people out of the corner of my eye. They were in the shadows, waiting to ambush me! My heart nearly stopped, but then I recovered and quickly got into sneak mode and drew my mace. Then I realized they were mannequins and felt like a complete moron as I put my weapon away.

The only thing I ever put on them was a full-face helm. Their "faces" creep me out. :bolt:

IIRC, in the UESP, the difference between maximal stats for ebony weapons and glass weapons were canceled out by weight differences and the ability to swing the lighter weapons just a bit easier and faster.

I use Glass Armour, I use ebony weapons, I am of the Dunmer Darkblade family, where do you think the original name arose? (nice big Ebony Dai Katana would be good, but an Ebony Great Sword will do - especially with tweeks).

The Choice is up to each player.

When it comes to bows, yes. Fully upgraded, you'll put out similar or slightly higher DPS with a glass bow due to it having a slightly shorter attack animation, although the ebony one would be a little better for sneak attacks. It isn't enough of a difference to worry about though.

You do not remember correctly, entirely. Weapon weight only affects the draw speed of bows, it doesn't affect the swing speed of melee weapons at all. Those are hard-set by weapon type, daggers being the fastest, and maces being the slowest. Weapon weight DOES affect stamina expenditure for power attacks, however. But since the weight difference between a glass sword and an ebony sword is merely one, you're not going to see a huge benefit from glass in that regard.

Hey, I noticed that! I thought I was missing a separate "back door" key or something. Those jerks! They were probably just on the other side of that door giggling into their hands as I tried all my keys on the lock...

I've been switching off ebony and glass bows. I only use glass for bows I wish it wasn't that ugly teal color.

I believe if you pickpocket the key from the Fletcher in Solitude that key will open the back door, but I have yet to try it. :P

If I end up buying Proudspire with my new character and find that dang door still locked, I will try that. Thanks!
