Echoes of Vvardenfell: Voryn Dagoth Rising (Discussion Threa

So, I have a rough idea for a possible roleplay, and was wondering if anybody would be interested.

The setting takes place in Cyrodiil, about ten years after the Oblivion Crisis. The Empire is still intact, but many of the provinces have become far more isolated from one another, and there's alot of political scheming on the part of many different parties to find an Emperor sympathetic to their goals. But in the Imperial province, problems outside the normal politcal backstabbing have begun to occur. A number of citizens have been reported uttering odd, incoherent phrases in the middle of the cities, while others have disappeared completely. Many denizens of Cyrodiil have begun having bizarre, extremely vivid dreams.

What the general population doesn't know, thanks to the masterful manipulation of Ocato and the Blades, is that Dagoth Ur, the Sharmat of Morrowind, has returned. Worse than that...he's somewhere in Cyrodiil. (Don't worry, I actually have a means of explaining Dagoth's not-deadness.)

The roleplay will focus on the efforts of the adventurers as they attempt to keep Dagoth from establishing a solid power base in Cyrodiil. Along the way, they'll also be trying to figure out what Dagoth's master plan is, and why he's in Cyrodiil to begin with. Hopefully, all of this will entail elements of both subtlety and combat, so all types of characters will have chances to shine. There will probably be some good opportunities for character development as well.

Oh right, and the dream thing. There'll be points throughout the RP where Dagoth influences the dreams of the party in a similar fashion to what was seen in Morrowind (I'm unsure if I can come up with anything quite as crazy as the developers did, but I'll certainly try).

Anywho, that's more or less the idea. Any questions or comments? Would anybody be interested in this?

Sounds like a good party adventure RP, with an actual lore bad guy :) So long as all of it makes sense it should work well, given that you fill in a bit more detail. I've got the feeling you know this, but be sure to put where the RP starts, who got the characters to join there, and what their first order of business will be. It's a solid idea, and I'm sure it will attract people (I might be able to find time), and the only way it wouldn't work is if people lose interest, but I have confidence in your hosting enough that that won't happen.

Yeah, I'm always up for a good adventure :D Count me in (though I might slow my posting once Thanksgiving break is over). Cheers ;)

As there seems to be some interest in the idea, I figure I may as well include some more information.

Dagoth Ur's survival, ironically, was the result of the Nerevarine. During the conflict in Red Mountain, after his connection with the Heart of Lorkhan had been severed, Dagoth Ur was struck by a soultrap spell. When the Nerevarine destroyed the Sharmat's physical body, his mind and spirit were trapped within an immensely powerful soul gem, intact. Only the Nerevarine can say why this was done.

The Nerevarine, however, did not account for the immense magical power and knowledge of Ur. In the interim, during the Nerevarine's expedition to Akavir and the events of the Oblivion Crisis, the gem fell into the hands of the last remaining Ash Vampires. Now, Dagoth inhabits the body of a Dunmer host, whose physical form has been greatly enhanced by Ur's magics. Having also procured the soul gems containing the spirits of Sotha Sil (captured by Almalexia) and of Almalexia herself (captured by the Nerevarine during the subsequent battle), Ur has also crafted himself a horrific weapon. Two seperate blades, called Broken Moon and Star Reaver have been forged together into a single, double-ended spear...ominously titled Nerevar's Bane.

Despite no longer having access to the powers of the Heart, Dagoth Ur and the Sixth House continue to pose a very serious threat to Tamriel. By conscripting the populace of Cyrodiil and outlying areas, he has slowly been building an army, and constructing new bases of operation in the most remote areas of the Imperial Provinces. Perhaps more disturbing are the reports that miniature ash storms have been seen generated at these newly constructed bases, able to transform normal people into ghoulish new ash creatures at Dagoth's command.

Basically, the story will begin with the group being summoned by Chancellor Ocato and his advisors, brought together to help raid one of these new Ash Forts being constructed in Cyrodiil. The rest of the story will develop from there.

I hope this answered at least a few of the questions out there. Of course, if there are more or anybody would like to offer comments, please feel free.

A very good reason for why he is back, though I must ask if Vivec was also killed by the Nerevarine? I don't have much else to say, other than that I am still in on it, and will make a sheet soon. Thanks.

EDIT: True, Lochlan, but that kind of rumor is usually changed by writers anyway. They either have him killed by the Nerevarine, or he survives. I just wanted to know what we were doing here.

I am well aware of both of those.

well if you remember in oblivion one of the latest rumors or w/e was that vivec had disappeared during the crisis, so it seems like hes set up for death whether you killed him in TES 3 or not. Who knows maybe nerevar never returns from akavir either?
