economy in the game

Post » Sat May 30, 2009 10:19 am

In the forum, there is alot of talk about PvP, higher level vs noobs and how the game should survive! i think its simple, game needs an economy system. So this game will require warriors and workers.

Everyone and Mercs (Npcs) should require food, water and protection to survive and equipment should require maintenance and even buildings repairs from misuse (fights and time)

This means you need workers to provide services to warriors and they in return have to defend you, otherwise will the faction settlement or the major settlement they work at, fail to produce the basics for survival.

Now the point here is not to annoy those who wants to kill everyone else, but to provide a more realistic future in Fallout online... and if its done right, then there will be progress, but if everyone blasts away then will ammo become scarce for higher tech weaponry along with lack of food, will cripple people in the long run...

but before food runs out entirely, then should mercs begin to desert their masters, so forcing players to defend their positions themselves or ensure they have workers for the fields!

but again, thats just my thoughts on that ;)

I don't know if it 'needs' it, but that could prove very interesting, or a variation of that, or parts of it, interesting.

Farmer McGregor says: Level 42 Farmer LF 2 Field Workers for harvest must have 280+ Rototilling and 200+ Weed identification, also need Miller & Baker to craft bread will tip 5 apples.

Jeremy the Farm Hand: WTF 280+ Rototilling? I did harvest at 37 with 230 max, also you need at least one harvester with a +7 thresher or its pointless.

Jones the Milkman: LOL he isn't even using 2/3 crop-field rotation don't group with McGregor!

Baker Barney: I can bake got 315 baking and +5 Oven.

Radagaz the Merciless: Anyone need anything killed? Anyone? Will shoot rabbits that eat your crops for an apple a night, send tell ... someone ... please ... Maybe you'll sit and sigh, wishing that I were near
Then maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say "Maybe"

rofl mex xD

anyway, why do so many people want eating and sleeping to be so damn important in a game... heck I don't want to waste my time sitting down to eat or sleep just so my character won't get negative stats, geez its a gamekiller. Add it as a feature but not as an something essential. Why not add that you have to go to the bathroom as well and if you don't drink anything in 2 days your character is permadead... Image

now on to the matter, there should be farms outside of towns that could be mission tied. Defending them so the crops won't get destroyed/defending caravans that goes from there to cities so they don't get raided etc Image

well i guess sleeping is only going to happen, when you log off.

bikkebakke, unless there is a good economic system in the game, then whats the point of FOO? afterall if all you want is a PvP FPS game, then why not just play one of the many others already around or even play battlefield, its only about the warfare...

I see fallout as a game of survival and exploration, combat plays a great part of this, but it should never be the only focus in the game. Also having farmers and workers, means there is another job for warriors then just going around bashing people, due to boredom :)

I agree, i hope there will be alot of small and large missions. Pity we have still not heard more about the game.

I think that there should be players and npc's that own farms/caravans and players defending them, depending on for how long, will be rewarded a small amount of that farm's/caravan's next sell to a town, and maybe some supplies that are common on that specific farm/caravan.

A good economic system adds to a game.

I feel everything in the game should be craftable, and I pretty much consider that the reasonable way to get equipment, killing the same spawn site that never changes is boring as watching paint dry. I hope there aren't monsters just standing around to get whacked. Super mutant camps etc etc are fine though.

I think it was a Diablo game I read in one of my books on game design that set it up that you got punished for not eating or drinking and people complained about it. So Blizzard changed it around so that way instead of getting punished you got a bonus when all they did was make it so your defualt setting was what you where at when getting punished before. But getting a bonus everyone was all YAY! instead of whining.

Granted I think actual food items should be kept to browser based MMO's, but I could see where it would be entertaining when you log on first in the day to spend 5 minutes with your little garden plot to water and weed your mutated tomato plants, after all, they make it hard when they bite.

Perhaps the farms could have something to do with how fast a town or player fort or what not grows? Wannabe writer/P&P game designer.

yes, but this is funny:

i love the "killing the same spawn site that never changes is boring" part, unlike mining at the same mine that never changes :D

I didn't mean to imply that wasn't as boring as watching paint dry either. I've played eve and have had a lot of ore stolen off me because I fell asleep at the keyboard. It would be great if someone could figure out a way to make it different. Wannabe writer/P&P game designer.

The game could be a living model of resource based economy,I know I'm being idealistic but the game could help bring about an economic system that could be applied to Reality.

i would think, they made it so, that if someone tries to steal from you, while you sleep in bed or on keyboard, that like the normal game, you would auto defend your stash.

Also as there will be alot of people coming to steal ones stuff, then could players also band together for farming or whatever, so that if someone sleeps and auto defend, then the others could join in to help you.

A bit like if you got a bunch of prospectors for gold or silver, if one miner is attacked, then the others would help to make it more safe for everyone. :)
