Editing Meshes

Post » Thu Jun 30, 2011 8:52 am

I have tried to inquire into this subject several times, and for some reason the true meaning of my one question seems to keep "falling through the cracks" as it were. This time I will try my best to be VERY specific. What I am attempting to accomplish, I wonder if it is at all possible.

With all due respect, I don’t mean this to sound critical! -But- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read the description of my question carefully so that you don't waste your time and mine. =]

I thought it would first be resonable for me to mention the fact that I have already acomplish the achevments of learning how to modify "meshes with all types of inanimate objects. I have also learned how to modify all types of textures. I have also learned how to edit landscapes.

Ok, so here is the specific question: I am attempting, with the "Blender" software, to modify the MESH of the objects, NOT the graphic textures (skin) of the objects, specifically of CREATURES or NPCs, and NOT inanimate objects (such as objects that don't move, like swords etc.) Also I am NOT interested at this time in how to animate these objects, just interested in how to modify the MESH FRAMES. In essence I want to create a completely brand new shaped Creature or NPC.

Hopefully this time I have been completely specific and accurate in describing my goal. I do understand that there is a possibility that this goal is not possible to do with "Blender" and will understand if this is the case, but I’m asking that anyone who responds will please be honest with me if it is indeed not possible to do, and not send me on another " wild goose chase"

Thank you in advanced

The process is very simular to what you've done with working with an object mesh but there are some additional steps you'll need to take. As I'm posting from work and dont' have access to blender at this momment I can only answer in general terms.

You will need to load the skeleton of the object with the mesh. It may load automatically or you might have to load the xModel.nif file as well as the Model.nif file. Once you have the model loaded you first build the mesh as normal. With the model complete or nearly complete you'll need to assign the vertices to the bones of the skeleton. To this you go to weight painting mode, select the bone from the vertex group list and then paint the model. Red is completely linked to the bone. Blue is completely uneffected by the bone and the colors in between are partially effected. There are numerous videos on youtube that show how this is done such as this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGFe9FjkSig.

hope this helps. I'll check back after work and put in a few specifics.
