Editting AI Packages in Windows 7

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 7:20 am

I've looked on this forum and only person who solved it removed a dodgey pen tablet driver and it started working but I don't have a Wacom pen tablet so that can't be the cause. Basiclly every time I try add, edit, apply or remove an AI package from the AI list the construction set instantly crashes.

I've seen it mentioned repeatedly on many other Oblivion forums since Windows 7's release but they had no solution either. I've tried running it in admin, turning off UAC, running it under every compatibility setting I can find but nadda, second I click the packages window - boom. The CS immedtiatly says it's stopped responding and Windows unhelpfully shuts it down without even giving it a second thought.

This seems to be a pretty common problem, so is there a solution yet or am I bummed? (Not being able to edit the AI packages basiclly means I can't finish this mod)

So what i have gathered is you have a problem with windows 7 i also have windows 7 and i find that when there is a problem it can usually be solved in properties but if you ran it in admin that probably isnt it it happens sometimes with me but i just try again and it works so you can always give that a shot

I've tried many many times (20+?) in many different circumstances (admin, compatibility, no fancy graphics etc) and it's never once worked. I can create new packages I found by "cheatting" and going through the package list on an NPC but I can't edit nor drag and drop packages, second I click one it crashes. I've even tried disabling OBSE temporarily to check that it wasn't the OBSE additions causing the problem.

Hi Ryuujin

I have search high and low myself for a solution to Windows 7 and the CS for editing AI Packages. I've tried repeatedly to try and open one, but like you upon just clicking any AI package the CS crashes. Can make them like you aswell no worries, the only thing you can do but is slow and a awful way of doing things is using TES4edit to read the AI packages so you can use them, but really is useless as it is so slow to view the properties of them unless you know what your looking for(faster to just create them). I'll have to watch this thread closely in case there is a solution. The articles i have found have ranged in age all with no solution when i searched a few months ago. I cant really help much, running it as admin and UAC off and even various compatibility modes all failed.

I found a article on the net and tested, i already have the tablet service turned off. But give this a go
Start >> Control Panel >> Programs and features >> Turn Windows Features on or off

Remove tick for Tablet pc components, it will require a reboot

The other thing i did but i dont think is what helped, was set the cpu affinity to just one core, this is a fix for AC2.

I thought that work but it doesn't, well it worked the first time, but now crashing since. Maybe it was just luck, very unusual

Actually your suggestion is holding true so far. I havn't dared reboot the construction set incase it is as you said a temporary thing, I'll try get all the packages I need hammered out for this mod while I have a window of opportunity ;)

Im on Windows 7 and not had any AI Crashes ever since I plugged in a MIC which I am using to Voice my Argonian Companion Mod. Tho it could just fix the Create new Topic crash I had before.

Could try that?

I just update the info from above, i did a little bit of testing

Give this a go(note if the service is disabled the tablet drivers still exist)
Start >> Control Panel >> Programs and features >> Turn Windows Features on or off

Remove tick for Tablet pc components, it will require a reboot

Set the CPU Affinity to a single core
CTRL+ALT+DEL

Now select TESConstructionSet.exe in Task Manager by right clicking it and select Set Affinity. The CPU Affinity never gets stored, and must be done each time.

Now once opening up the AI Packages, dont close that screen, keep doing every thing you need to. Once closing it and reopening it, there is a good chance the cs will crash if just selecting a AI Package. Restarting the editor will again result in a crash until you reboot the pc.

Not the best solution for those with Windows 7 and get crashes with the CS trying to just select any kind of AI Package, but at least they can be edited now and looked at.
