[WIP] Edoc's Arthur Armor

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:50 am

I recently decided to watch Merlin when it appeared on the streaming service of Netflix. I liked it a ton, and I liked the armor they wore a lot too. So, I decided to do my take on it for use in Oblivion.

Here is a WIP shot of it: http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b9/bchick222/other%20projects/camelot.jpg
-these are base preliminary textures so don't frown to badly on them :)
-I will be doing a version with the Surcoat as well (and MAYBE the cloak, but only if it looks and reacts in-game OK)
-There will be choice of a worn chainmail coif, let down coif, and complete armored helm
-There will be a 'heavy' version with armor on both shoulders and arms -edit (added 06/09)- *will also have chest plate
-NOTE: I am NOT trying to recreate the armor 1:1. It is more... inspired with a few desired tweaks by me
--edit (added 06/09)- Female version will be VERY similar to the male version. The arms and legs may be slightly thinner but the overall look will be the same.

And what good is the armor without something to swing? http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b9/bchick222/other%20projects/excalibur.jpg
-This is most likely the final texture for the sword
-The sword is based on the popular 'Excalibur' model that you can buy in most sword shops.
-There will be a shield to go with it too
-There MAY be a horse I rig up with some armor to match (this is a BIG maybe though)

And, for what it is worth, there will be a mini-quest tied to it. It won't be anything involved or hard, but I wanted to do more than just plop everything down in the game. Suffice to say, there will be a tiny new location as well as some more custom models. Which, brings me to the next point: As with 99% of the models and such I do, everything will be a modder's resource.

Any questions or feedback, post away :)

Armor looks great! It looks verry believable and not over the top. It also fits my character i just started, which is always a plus

Yeah the simplicity of it was the main thing I liked about it. It will look pretty sharp with the surcoat on it too :)

That is some nice looking armor - not clunky or too heavy looking. And a sweet sword. :)

Hm. Any chance of a mesh alteration for HGEC or any other body types? And if not by you, would it be OK for others to do so? And if so, might some modder out there feel so inclined? :)

At the risk of side-tracking, I think the reason there's not a lot of armor like this in Oblivion already is that the Heavy/Light distinction, with separate skills governing distinct stats, has nudged all designs to the ends of the spectrum, and away from the middle ground. This combo of plate and mail occupies that no-man's-land of Medium Armor that doesn't exist in Oblivion. It's rather annoying that a piece of armor has to be marked as one or the other, and that Light Armor Mastery only gives its perk if you wear Light only.

So to get back on track, is this going to be marked Heavy or Light? I both agree and disagree with either decision!

I do not use any body type mod so, sadly, I have little interest in doing different versions for them. If I had loads of time to kill, I might consider it, but what I get done these days is usually all I can get done haha. But, this will be a modder's resource so anyone can do anything with it. If someone wants to adapt it to another body type, they are welcome to.

On a semi-related note, the female version for this armor will be VERY similar to the male version. The arms and legs may be slightly thinner but the overall look will be the same. No chainmail bikinis here!

For this reason I am making a more 'heavy' version (where in the OP I mentioned "There will be a 'heavy' version with armor on both shoulders and arms"). :) So, the regular armor (what you see in the preview wip pic as well as the version with the surcoat I talked about) will be light. However, one thing I did not mention is that the 'heavy' version will also have a metal chestplate as well as shoulder/arm armor on both sides. It still won't look super heavy duty, but it will suffice.

If you all think I should add armor to the legs and boots for the 'heavy' version just let me know. I have thought about it.

you could always change it to the type you would rather have it as once its released. I do agree completely, this would fit in the medium armor category quite nicely. It seems more like light armor than heavy so far to me, there is much more chain and leather than the, steel I'm guessing, plates

Fantastic! You are now, though in the minority (it seems), in that class of modders I most respect. For what it's worth. :foodndrink:

Seriously, even though I do use body mods (that vary, depending on other mods being used at the time) I appreciate real armour that actually protects your body (male or female). And all the more so for its (apparent) lack of popularity, and therefore rarity.

And good to hear it's free to modify. Kudos.

Indeed it is.

It seems people in the various places I have asked have been split on the shield. So, I will just add both to the mod. Seems fair. Haha
