Ehlnofey, Earthbones, and Alteration Magic

To begin with, as I was reading through the FAQ, I found this.

Ehlnofey - believed by many to be one of the earliest mortal races upon Nirn and ancestors of both men and mer. However, "Ehlnofey" can be translated as 'Earth Bones' and, as such, the term is often used to describe the mythic foundations of the mortal plane itself, created by a sacrificial transition which certain immortals undertook during the legendary Dawn Era. Altmer specifically revere these immortals as http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?act=findpost&pid=2973364, that is, 'our ancestors'.

So, are the Ehlnofey the literal Earthbones? Or simply a word used to describe them?

If the Ehlnofey are the Earthbones, then, if you could gather extremely powerful Alteration mages, could you(in time) manipulate the Earthbones into a humanoid form, treating them as you would a normal human. Killing them? Imprisoning them to control the Earthbones? Maybe even mating with them? To create some sort of mythical race that's very powerful.

Just somethings that crossed my mind.
