Eldanorcara Redux?

Post » Tue Mar 02, 2010 1:40 am

omg I come back two years later lol, 'still getting pm's' and this is still in the works! Wow lol :) I say release everything and let them be resources for all those new creative modders to use. And hi everyone. :)

Leelooooooo! Hi! Actually, this has been on again, off again since well, forever. But I think we are trying to make some new progress. It looks like Oriphier has picked up some new tricks that may finally get the ball rolling with my models. I think its always been my stuff holding everything up. Like my 200k poly tree. :biglaugh: But lookie what Skinjack found.

So, when can you start working, Leeloo?

Somebody has been busy. I like it. Of course, I guess we all need to get on the same page as to what we want to do. That's part of this mods problems. So many people have been involved with so many wonderful ideas, nobody knows what we are doing. I guess anyone who wants to have any say on this mod, or offer assistance, please PM me with your e-mail address and I'll add you to my list. Oriphier, I have reinstalled Messenger, so if you are online tonight when I get home I will contact you so we can toss around some ideas. That goes for anyone else interested. AhemFliggertyAhem.

Sorry I didn't get to chat with you last night Oriphier. I checked for you online a couple of times, but then kind of got involved in something else.

Heh, are we getting a concept of scale yet? I figure its in the neighborhood of 450-500 feet tall. Not including the leaves. Too big? Its obviously not done yet, and its suprisingly low poly (for me) because I'm staying away from lofts, fillets, and spheres, which really seems to be where it kills me in the conversion process. Apparently a flat, rectangular surface is subdivided the same way in SolidWorks as it is in Max, i.e. generally two triangles. Yay me. I think the whole thing is under 6k polys, including the tree, and I can reduce that further by deleteing the extruded cuts I did for the windows. Those are put in with textures anyway, right? I just wanted to get an idea of what it would look like with windows, etc.
But I will definately try to get in touch with you tonight. What time zone are you in?

That is awesome Skinjack. Looks dang close to how I envisioned the shop to look. :goodjob:

Yeah, I like it better than the original shop, because its more practical (well, as practical as something like this could be.) The original was just too bulky, I think, to actually work on the scale that it was. I just need to keep the "aesthetics" to a minimum and let them be textured in. I'll produce pics with the windows, etc in the model, then remove them all before exporting, so that when its textured we'll have an idea of what I was looking for.

If we go this route. Oriphier. Tonight. Planning. Yeah. I need to remember that. (Like he doesn't have anything better to do on a Friday night.)

AOF, how did the new Blackbriar models I sent to you look?

Is Oriphier going to texture the model too?

I havent checked into the briar model yet, I have been working on my BB textures. :P

I will have a look in a little bit.

Oriphier is in the process of figuring out a method to turn spline versions of my models into meshes to reduce the polycount. First test successful, but, slacker that I am, I haven't sent him another model to play with. As for texturing the model, I still don't think we've even decided how we are going to proceed with this. His little island concept. My huge tree concept. Or a mix of both. Opinions are welcome.

Going to bed now. Waaaay past my bedtime. I think this version has about 9-10k polys.

Yeah, its pretty much done, I just can't get it into the CS. Driving me crazy! I don't know if its a scale thing or not. Haven't quite figured out the scale difference from Max to CS. Is there a limit to how tall something can be in-game? I think this should be 450-500 feet tall. It shows up fine in NifSkope. Any suggestions? It crashes the CS when I import it.

Thats weird. I have had the same problem with some of my models but I cant really say how or if I ever fixed the problem. :S

Maybe some nice person with max (or another app) and an NIF exporter can have a look at it.

Are you volunteering? :hehe: I already have it in nif form as well as 3ds. Its a decent looking model, as you said, so I don't know why its crashing the CS. I mean, come on, I've had 100k poly swords in the game and I can't import a 9k treehouse? Looking for volunteers to check this out. Oriphier? Midgetalien? Anybody home?

Really? I did a distance measure on it in Max and it said like 500 units. I even imported a nif that I had in game that was scaled correctly to compare it to the tree and it looked to scale. Somebody has to know the conversion scale between Max and the CS. I thought it was about 1-1/2 or 2 to 1. Somewhere in there. Oh well. As long as its working now. How does it look Oriphier?

Holy crap it's a post.

I'm surprised I haven't been deleted yet.

Anyways, on topic.

Your poll does fail; it lacks the option "Continue with Eldanorcara and make it as good as it should have been with RS' old and new resources, including all files ever made for Elda."

*cough

I am now MSNable. <3

Edit: This is, of course, if you actually want my help. All things considered, I shouldn't be assuming anymore ^_^

Who the hell are you and what did you do with the real Rogue_Shadow? :biglaugh: Nice to see you around. Surprised is more like it. Did the pm I sent you a week or so ago make you curious (or guilty) enough to stick your head in here? That'll teach you to start something like this then disappear for a year. Anyway, any and all help is appreciated. Especially since you are the only one who ever seemed to be able to get this going. I think Oriphier and I are the only ones that still occassionally try to do something with this, although I think AOF may be willing to help out some when he has time. He's a busy boy, though.

I'm assuming you've seen the new tree concept? Was that a little closer to your original vision? Or have I gone and f'ed it up again? I do have a tendency to go off on wild tangents and try to bring everyone with me. So, cheery hellos all around. Now, get back to work on this, slacker. (oooh, I'll bet you missed being called that.) :hehe:

Last I knew, Oriphier had gotten it to work in-game and we were trying to convince/coerce/guilt/strongarm/bribe/etc AOF into texturing it. Like I said, he's a busy boy.
