Elder Maxons is the leader we need (Spoiler)

Post » Tue Jan 12, 2016 12:53 am

It's not just the fact that the main person is doing side quests. It's specifically that it's a complete waste of time distraction side quest that has 0 to do with the main issue at hand. Most waste of time missions I can refuse if I like (mentoring squires as an example).

One of them isn't even a side quest. In my last playthrough I came to Proctor Ingram to report I had inside information on the imminent activation of the Institute's cold fusion generator. The only way to even get her to talk to you is to glitch out the game if you haven't done Tactical Thinking. It otherwise forces you to go kill the Railroad first before you can even mention the reactor. This is nine kinds of mindless.

"Oh, so you say the Institute is about to increase synth production exponentially with a source of practically unlimited power? That's interesting, but first, I need you to go wipe out these hippies in this basemant. We've confirmed they've already mostly been annihilated by the Institute in the last few months, but it's imperative!"

Concerning Virgil. Yes, he helps the Player. Yes I am inclined to be merciful. But, he performed those vile FEV experiments for years and has a lot of blood on his hands.

'I was just following orders', is a defense with poor precedent.

But yes, it is an annoying side quest. However compared to the side quest hell that is the Minutemen, it's tolerable.

Let's steer this back on topic. Maxson, in two games, has become my favorite character in the series. Flawed asf, but geniune in his beliefs and sincere in wanting to help humanity claw back from the depths of barbarity. And he still has a lot of room to grow and develop.

Will he go full despot and inevitably fall? Will he wise up and become the benevolent ruler the East Coast deserves? Will he be usurped by sleeper Enclave agents embedded with in the Brotherhood leadership? Tune in and find out on the next episode of Fallout 5.

I'm not complaining that it's annoying from a gameplay perspective like the Minutemen mission are. I'm saying it makes Maxson and Kells look like morons who put ideology ahead of logistics, strategy, or basic common sense.

@FortifyShouts

I don't see how it's off topic. Whether or not a given mission is a prudent use of resources seems quite relevant to Maxson's leadership capabilities.

great leader? with time maybe but as he stands now he is only a great solder. And if BoS ends up not being the cannon ending then he will never come to fruition.

I kind of see Elder Maxson as a potential Alexander the Great type of leader. Conquers everything he sees, then dies young. Chaos then ensues to feed a couple more Fallout installments.

Is he the only faction leader that the Player can defy to their face and get a change of outcome (Danse)?

Also, Davie Crockett kill a bear by grin at it. Personally I dislike the way the display BOS narrow-minded and call Lyon way "Foolishness". The current BOS is inefficient and are bullies who think anybody but them are worthy of technology.

The argument that they are opening attacking Supermutants, insane ghouls, and Raiders is false. The reason is those attack are nothing more the relic recon. Where a knight escort a scribe to a location.

The argument that they are constated technology to prevented dangerous technology/weapons from raiders and other factions is slim because BOS use nukes and rebuilt Liberty Prime. If I was the leader of the BOS, I would negotiate with MM and residents of Commonwealth to raise a army to occupy the institute and use it as a branch HQ of BOS.

Lyon's way was foolishness, it was getting them slaughtered. Lyons was the one who caused a split in the chapter. The BoS only won in 3 because the son of Liam Neeson turned up and threw the ring into mount doom. The current BoS are certainly not inefficient. They aren't getting destroyed by mutants in the ruins constantly. And if you must refer to them as bullies, then they're bullies who pick on serial killer cannibal khorne fanatics on the playground.

And no, it's not. There has been countless times where a vertiberd drops off two knights at a location and they proceed to cleanse the filth. No scribes in sight.

Uh, no? They want cheaper deals from merchants, so they're protecting them.

Also, uh, Knight Rhys missions?

From what I've seen there are two kinds of drops.

1. A scribe, aspirant and knight drop in
2. Two heavily armed power armored troops drop in

It's pretty much a scavenge team or a strike team. The three man team might be the tech team or a recon team with the heavy armed knights being a strike team that gets deployed to where ferals, super mutants and raiders are.

I've seen random paladins out in the wild. I remember one was standing right smack in the middle of the peninsula leading to the Atom Cats garage and I had to wade far out into the bay to go around and avoid him because I had Danse with me. Unless paladins go on routine recon runs all the time, I'd say more is going on.

If you destroy CIT with the BoS they begin setting up check points and patrolling the roads making it safer for travelers and caravans.

It isn't tech scaving. It's like the Imperial Legion in Oblivion. They're making it so the people of the Commonwealth can have a shot at rebuilding civilization.

BoS also patrols outside of the check points with their verribirds. Can't count the times they happened to show up when the Castle was under attack.

My interaction with Maxson consisted solely of a power-armoured shadow on a roof, which I fired at until it fell off and was never seen again. I have no idea if he died, but I never met him up close.

Yeah, but they're boring and they don't go on the offensive when it comes to Mutants, Ferals, and Raiders unlike the BoS who eradicate them. The MM are a bandaid for a bullet wound and the BoS are surgery and morphine. I know whic I'm picking.

A strong wind kills the MM and Vertibirds.

A strong super mutant, however, does not kill landed Brotherhood soldiers.

That how their government going to be. Military style liberation without a civilian government to keep them in line will offend lend to military dictatorships. Look at African, South American, Middle East and Asia. Heck look at China.
