so you don't have any citations?

also i sincerely doubt any validity for anything you have to say re: the brotherhood if you don't even know who Liberty Prime is.

He's sort of their [censored] mascot.

Yes, look at CONTINENTS or REGIONS that have numerous and varied governments in them.

If i were in the wasteland i'd be happy to have a dictatorship if it meant i could sleep at night knowing im not going to be eaten by super mutants, flayed alive by ferals, replaced by a synth, or kidnapped by raiders.

An Eastern BOS government is likely to be initially feudal in nature, which is good for establishing a stable agrarian economy. The big difference between BOS and a traditional feudal system is that anyone with the desire and a modicum of talent can become a Knight, rather than it being limited to noble families. Once a stable agrarian economy has become the norm, population will grow and light industry will begin to develop. Standards of living will increase and gradually social and political liberalization will occur.

Nah, BoS would be more monastic order in structure. It would be akin to the Teutonic ordenstaat before it became the duchy of prussia.

Cider, you could be right, though one potential development that I considered was that eventually the knights and paladins would simply become the nations standing army and the scribes would form the monastic order.

Yea that's possible or the scribes could end up being part of the civilian side of the group like how it was with the mid-western.

Edit: Actually according to this http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Brotherhood_of_Steel_ranksthe scribes are already considered civilian sector? I don't know where it got that information though, they seem more like support and research then civilians

I don't really care if a government is or isn't authoritarian as long as it has working meritocracy and the BOS does.

People are having are really hard time realizing the wasteland caused by atomic annihilation and 200 years of fallout isn't the same sunshine and bunnies beacon of western civilization we're accustomed to. The rules have changed drastically and Maxson and the BoS are exactly what the setting needs if things are ever going to get better in it.

They don't have to be nice. They just have to get the job done.

That was caused by so many variables that pointing the finger at the Brotherhood is doing the story a disservice.

Maybe it was the US' fault for not electing a leader like Eisenhower withe balls not to push the button. Maybe it was China's fault because Cheng wanted a war. Maybe it was the greed of the 1% that led to overconsumption of the world's resources. Maybe it was a sick Vault-Tec experiment. Maybe the Zetans wanted humans to wipe themselves out so they wouldn't colonize space. You don't know so stop acting like you do.

Maybe it was irresponsible people with runaway tech, precisely as the Brotherhood claims.

Why should I stop stateing my opinion about the factions in this game? Am I not allowed in the dictatorship of this thread? :)

For me the BOS isn't any better as any faction in the game which wants to continue wars. Even worse, saying to conserve technologie that it can't be misused and then actually using it themselves to provoke another war in the commonwealth. As if there weren't enough there already.

I like it clearly as portrayal of the BOS in the Fallout series.

But as role modell to solve conflicts or make anything better in the Commonwealth they are the wrong ones.

Like most of the factions in Fallout games but that makes sense to keep the game series going because:

War, War never changes...

I don't know. When it comes to factions making things measurably better, I'd say the NCR is leagues ahead of the Brotherhood. I also think that the Brotherhood's hypothesis is very wrong, and based on articles of faith without proof: it wasn't technology that destroyed humanity, it was the mismanagement of the world's resources and a lack of economic ties between great powers that made war unprofitable, the ones in our world that have prevented nuclear (and conventional) war. The Brotherhood is composed of religious zealots, and while they can have their place inside a larger organization, having them work on their own is a recipe for disaster (the East Coast Brotherhood was moving away from it, but now seems to have regressed).

Except the children don't see combat, they're trained and that's about it which is again, how some monastic knight orders worked. They're not child soldiers but trainees.

The East Coast Brotherhood under Lyons was firmly set on a path to self destruction through refusing to enlist outsiders and wasting own resources and people on profitless missions of charity. Both issues Maxson remedied.

Yeah lets get to the Commonwealth in our big warship, lets tell them loudly we come in peace (shoot to kill, shoot to kill :) ) and let us take our children with us so that they can see the results of war firsthand as trainees. :)
