Elder Maxson in future Fallouts

Post » Sun Dec 06, 2015 6:52 am

Do you think we should see him again?

He can die but we have a group which is able to make perfect copies of people who think they're the person.

It might be interesting to see him show up in future Fallouts and leave it to wonder whether or not he survived or be cloned by the Institute to weaken the Brotherhood.

I do think he's too good a character to "throw away."

Idk.

On the one hand, he can die. on the other hand, Beth has shown no fear of choosing endings already. We destroyed the enclave and not the pentagon.

And they also seem to be building Maxson up like Warhammer's God Emperor of Mankind.

Of course, I don't want the BoS to be the canonical ending either or you'd have to account for them in any future games the way you have to do for NCR in any West Coast games.

With the Prydwen and Liberty Prime, there's no real reason the BoS can't "fiix" the East Coast.

I agree that he is a too good of a character to be just thrown away. Him surviving the fall of Prydwen would make him much more interesting: nothing forces a development on a conqueror as an utter defeat.

Yeah, we may have shot him down, but you never know: canon Sole Survivor may have just thought he was dead and canonically did not blow his head or checked the corpse. His battle coat plus power armor may have stopped the bullet (still better than cigars stopping them in some fictions).

It would need to be a prequel and have him unkillable (or have it explained that the new Maxon's is a synth) or make a mass effect style carry over saved files or answer "did you do this or that?"

Eh, it's not the worst retcon they ever did.

You could also leave it open in the air. "The Institute had a Synth teleport Elder Maxson's body to their location and proceeded to revive him with their SCIENCE. Elder Maxson was able to promptly escape."

Then you could have HIM wonder if he's a Synth.

And no way to test!

I suspect they'll take the Minutemen ending as the canon ending. The BoS are not the "good guys" in this version, unlike Fallout 3, and Bethesda does tend to default to the "good guys" winning. I'm personally okay with the NCR thing in New Vegas, simply because charting the trajectory of the NCR from Fallout 1 and 2, where they are at the beginning of New Vegas makes sense. And of course we have no idea which ending Obsidian or Bethesda considers canon. I could see it being the House ending as easily as I could see it being the NCR ending.

Edit: Specifically the Minutemen ending that does not require the destruction of the BoS. That way they could continue to use Maxson in future games.

Of course, I feel the same way about the Institute.

My hope is that even if the Institute is destroyed, the "Evacuation" ending means they don't actually cease to exist as a Faction. And that in future games we'll see them take a Followers of the Apocalypse/Big Mountain role.

Inhabiting former universities and labs with their Synths to do all sorts of Zeerust Science Missions.

Why not just cut his own arm and check if it has robotic components? ;P

I am not sure which ending will be canon, but it sure won't be the Minutemen. For MQ, that faction is literally treated as a failsafe: little to no effort was given to their MQ quests and they don't even have the "I won with Minutemen" achievement unlike he other three. If they were to be canon, they would have a main questline as long and interesting as the BoS and the Institute+Railroad ones.

Being good guys doesn't really mean victory. Beth makes your Morrowind character be responsible for a catastrophe that almost obliterated an entire nation. That tells you how cruel they can be, your TES4 character loses his identity and becomes a Madgod while your TES2 character literally gets erased from history. The hints in Skyrim don't promise a happy fate for Dragonborn either. They have a thing for making the endings as bitter as possible (even FO3 ending is bitter when you look into what the EC BoS turned into).

It is certain that evil guys will not win (as we kind of have to save the world), but we lack them this time. Anything is possible, really.

With all the nuclear technology out there, I imagine they have X-rays.

And they can't detect Synths.

Has Bethesda picked a canon outcome for Fallout 3 though? No matter how you complete the main quest or Broken Steel, the Enclave gets obliterated. And does attacking the Citadel completely obliterate it, or would it be reasonable for the Brotherhood to repair it in the span of ten years?

No, because Sarah Lyons, Owen Lyons, and Arthur all die in the Broken Steel Evil Ending.

Also, the BoS claims they won Addam's Air Force base.

Megaton is also referenced as a growing city.

That's about as confirmed as you can possibly get.

I could see Aurthur surviving, all be it in a wounded/diminished state. Heck, keep the 40k references rolling and lock him in a suit of Power Armor - a walking cadaver only alive thanks to Brotherhood science and salvaged (forbidden) tech from the Institute.

Or maybe he's just a brain in a jar. Wouldn't be the first one in the series history we've conversed with.

He will be in future Fallout games. He is a descendant of the man who founded the Brotherhood. Way too important of a character just to leave out. As far as canon goes, my guess is that Bethesda is going to make the Brotherhood play-through canon, as the brotherhood IS Fallout....always have been since Fallout 1

alright, thanks. I've never done the evil path in Fallout 3, and I've spent more time blowing up the Brotherhood in 4 than actually learning about them.

So I guess Bethesda's okay with establishing canon in Fallout; I'm okay with that, especially if it means there's a chance we can see Desmond again.

I am pretty sure I will side against the BoS because he is the leader who represents the worst future to me. Wanted to be able to change his mind on some things but he just continued to be a leader I disagreed with the most by rhetoric and methods. I honestly believe that by killing him I have freed the BoS from regression down the path of failure again.

They made fun of that attitude in New Vegas.

And they made fun of it in Fallout 4 to an extent too.

Like hanging a bit lampshade on it and saying, "You know the Brotherhood is kind of [censored] up don't you?"

I highly doubt Elder Maxton will be ever seen or more than vaguely referenced again in future games sure they cud resurect him like many other games have done in the past, or they cud make BOS ending canon if it is extremly popular with the playerbase.

But meh dunno the boy kings nazi state semms more of a future public enemy nr1 if anything(provided they decide to keep him alive).
