Positive .

If you can only progress by design on the same track everyone else in your alliance is on = linear.

You don't agree with anyone, i don't have to progress in the same way as anyone at all how i do it is my choice. If i want to level through cyrodiil i will do that. I do it how i choose,

Lets see, you state there are quest gates between zones. We have multiple people saying otherwise. You state that you must quest to progress, we have other people saying otherwise. The only thing remotely linear is the levels of the zones. This is not unknown to ES as Morrowind had such. It didn't make Morrowind any less open world.

/shrug let's agree to disagree. I do wonder though, if your other 150+ posts on this forum are alike, why do you even bother? Are you even going to play ESO?

You level by questing there too. Exp from battles aren't that high.

Thats, not really the definition of linear I don't think. When people use the term Linear as a negative its meant to mean the game is on rails, ie you have no real choices, you can't really explore and or go off the beaten path. None of that is true for ESO. Yes there are lvls 1-50 as all or most of these games have lvls of some sort. There is always some kind of progression you need to go through in any game themepark or sandbox or anywhere in between.

But again in ESO its not on rails that you must follow. You can explore and its rewarded, you can go to other zones, you can skip quests, you can just go PvP and lvl, just kill mobs to lvl. That is not linear is the sense you are using it.

... But that's not the case, as has been pointed out.

Even if it WERE the case that you had to quest to progress, there are lots and lots of questlines... not one track. So now that it's confirmed the zone boundaries aren't quest-gated, even if you DO progress by questing, you are not on "the same track as everybody else".

But you CAN also progress without questing. So...

There may be a most efficient means, but that only affects the people who want to power-level... who are not in general the same people who care about an open world :P They would all take the same path REGARDLESS of what the rest of the game mechanics were, once it was determined it was the most efficient.

That's just it though, I didn't. I'm avoiding a quest that I don't want to do. I've found several other quests in zones that I really shouldn't be in yet, and I've managed to do side things, even though they were rather hard to do. I'm still attempting to level up to take care of that quest I don't want to do. I'm hoping one or two more levels will do it. The higher level enemies the better the experience, I think, at least I hope so. Sometimes it gets a little expensive getting your stuff repaired after dying a few times in a row. I expected that to happen because I was pushing it. There are several questlines that I didn't even touch in the beginning, so I may go back and try those before the quest I'm avoiding.
