Elder Scrolls Campaign Setting

Post » Fri Oct 29, 2010 10:41 am

I'm an avid gamer. That isn't limited to just console and PC gaming, I'm also very much into traditional gaming, especially pencil-n-paper roleplaying games. I've been DMing for my group for quite some time now, and we've had our games set in Eberron, Faerun, Greyhawk, and I'm even working on a fully-developed setting of my own,but I've come to a grim realization, lately. There isn't an Elder Scrolls setting. D:

Now, I could just run a game and try to make everything from the core books fit into the setting, but that just wouldn't feel right to me; I'm a very rules-oriented gamer and DM, so it'd be nice to have it all on paper (rather, in .pdf format, but you know what I mean.). I don't know how the folks at Bethesda would feel about the whole thing, but if they'd be willing to allow it, I'd love to make this a community project. I'm sure there are plenty of you into traditional gaming, and I'm sure I'm not the only who has thought about this.

So, assuming Bethesda is fine with it, let's start discussing this, shall we?

I have some ideas for how to go about it (can't just have everyone doing everything, we'd never get any real progress done), but I'll append that to this first post if Bethesda gives us the green light.

Just throwing it out there, I definitely prefer 3.5 to 4e, and I'm definitely in love with Pathfinder, but haven't had a chance to actually play/run it, yet.

EDIT: I'd just like to say the reason I want this so much is that it's really a shame there isn't one, already. TES has such rich lore, it rivals established campaign settings like Eberron and Faerun, which is amazing considering it's been limited to console and PC. Rarely does electronic entertainment deliver such a well developed setting.

You should shoot http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1149621-tes-rpg/page__p__16814934#entry16814934 a personal message, if you're serious about making this.

Not at all. It seems the idea's nothing new.

Well, that's good. At least I know there's an interest in such a thing.

I haven't been around here in some time, so I was unsure if the TES community had a whole lot of interest in traditional gaming.

Actually, if I remember right Elder Scrolls Arena arose from their own Dungeon and Dragons universe it's self.

I for one work at a game store, and love Dungeons and Dragons among many things gaming as well.

I've thought about doing this myself but I just don't have the time to really get in there and develop it for use in a campaign. That being said my friends and I never stick to the actual "D&D gameworld" We just use the rules and the stats. We even tweak those most of the time  We just kinda make up our own world as we go along. That's what I love about D&D.

VEDoD - I could definitely see that being the case. The background's just so rich unlike most console & pc games. On one of the in-game books read just like an entry from a campaign notebook. 'Incident in Necrom' was the title, I believe. Seriously read like an entry from a campaign log, I wouldn't doubt it if it was.

Outlander - That's why I'd love to do this as a community project; everyone would have a very specific task to do, which makes it far less daunting to any one individual and also ensures every aspect is cared for thoroughly. Basically, the way I was thinking about going about it would be to take the format of a couple of books and slap TES into it, and drive it in with a hammer. Basically, take all the core books and re-write them with the ES setting in mind, re-write all the race entries in the phb (which I've already started on, but I'm not too sure about what I have), put all the ES deities into the format used in Deities & Demigods, do regions like Faerun's CS, append TES creatures to the MM, write up some lore-driven prestige classes, etc, etc... It all seems like way too much, but with enough people and the proper organization I think it's very do-able.

I'd love for Elderscrolls to become an pen&paper RPG. Or at least one campaign book!

I statted up all the races in 3.5 style a while back, actually. There's also an excellent 4th edition topic on the Wizards of the Coast forums that has all the (living) Tamrielic races, as well as some of the more iconic creatures, armour, magic and so on.

But an official Elder Scrolls roleplaying game would be out of this world.

And besides, the idea of game developers bringing out pen&paper conversions is nothing new. There's the Green Ronin http://www.greenronin.com/dragon_age/ one, there's even one or two Fallout ones- one http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/J.E._Sawyer%27s_Fallout_Role-Playing_Game, no less, as well as http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Pen_and_Paper_d20, a generic post-apocalyptic RPG that started its life as a Fallout RPG.

Jara - There's also plenty of examples of the opposite, with all the Forgotten Realms games, and things like KOTOR. :D

Well, I'm ready to get this up and going if there are any interested people.

If you're interested in contributing, just shoot me a PM and we'll get everyone organized into what they're doing.
Essentially, I think it will go smoothly if everyone involved is tasked with a certain goal; some people will do monster stat blocks, some will work on phb-styled race entries, some will work on Deities & Demigods-styled deity entries, etc...

Once people start showing an interest, I'll edit the first post to keep everything up to date.

We'll need people to do the following:
Monster stat blocks
Phb-styled race entries
Deities & Demigods-styled deity entries
Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting-styled region entries, including regional feats
Prestige classes
Equipment
New spells?
Artifacts/Wondrous items/Specific enchanted items
Compiling all this together into something more comprehensible than just a big vat of nifty houserules.
