Hello! How do you think Bethesda will release DLC for Elder Scrolls 5? We can be 99% sure they will make it, so I decided to make a poll for you to choose how you think it should be released.

I plan on getting TES:5 for my 360, so the X-Box Live marketplace. Although, I did here Gamestop was selling DLC in stores now,I'll have to check that out.

Second Poll: Fee
If they are going to make money off it, I would expect a higher quality.

I figure they'll continue with what they started with Fallout - small, neighbourhood of $10 each and inconsequential. I think Shivering Isles broke the mould. The days of having an actual expansion pack may have ended (yes the FO3 DLC did expand the story a bit, but nothing along the lines of SI). That being said, other companies are making DLC that are closer to expansions than Beth is doing - Look at the GTA4 Dlc.

Since FO3 was GFWL I imagine that unless something weird happens TES5 will adopt the same system.
I'm pretty sick of GFWL and DLC's as a whole. Put a disk in a box with a book and some extras and I would be a very happy Jimbabwe.

The only things I've d/l were the freebie official mods for MW and Battlehorn Castle when Bethesda gave it as a free gift to forumites :)
I don't mind paying for it and although I like the big expansions small mods can be good too but I'd prefer it on disk

On a disc!

Naturally, it will need to be appropriately priced for its value. Expansion packs should start out at $20 (or $30, if it is really awesome). "Lesser" DLC should be bundled together, and not exceed $20 in total for a bundle of quality DLC. Housemods and Horse Armor don't count. :stare:

However, if Bethesda wants to pleasantly surprise everyone, they could return to their first model of DLC and make it freely downloadable from their website.

@Amazon Queen: Battlehorn was only free for the first week or two after it was released. Late-comers have to pay. Kind of bass ackwards, if you ask me.

More than anything, I hope they iron out the bugs before worrying to much about adding more content. So I actually hope the first DLC are patches.

The way I see it, they're likely to stick with GFWL for now. They had a lot of problems, but can anyone say that the FO3 DLC was that much more of a mess than the bugs that make it out in the base games (and are never fixed)?

If Bethesda goes with free DLC, I'm in. If it's pay? I'll decide on each individual one. The FO3 DLC was entertaining, if generally not overly epic.

My guess is they will carry on their current model of digital distributions for the PC with Live/PSN for the consoles to begin with, then followed up with GOTY/special editions down the line which would include some if not all the DLC.

Personally I hope that they do make a "big" expansion. I was a bit disappointed with the size of the DLCs on Fallout 3, they seemed to finish just as I was getting into them. Something the size of Bloodmoon or Shivering Isles would be my cup of tea.

I picked "anything but GFWL" as I really don't want to have to be connected to the internet to do anything. Ideally they would release it on their own website and via DVD. Also I think they should charge a reasonable fee for quality content.

I don't mind if they have to use GFWL, but please, please also keep them on CD in case for certain people who can't access the internet at home or otherwise.

I think it would have helped to make the first poll multiple choice. I'd expect the DLC to be available on GFWL and on disk, but I'd certainly hope for online options other than GFWL. I've had major difficulties with three of the five Fallout 3 DLC trying to get them through GFWL.

Second Poll: Fee

I agree.

Except for Siege at Firemoth Morrowind's downloads were pretty tiny, and I'd rather Bethesda focus on larger DLC (like KotN and Fallout 3's) and full expansions than small free DLC.

Well I've seen bundle DLC packs at gaming stores that are disks, so I'll get it from there. But if they do release any added content I want it to be an expansion like shivering Isles or a bunch of DLC on one disc. I've got sll the Fallout 3 DLC on one disc from the GOTY so it isn't impossible.

I wish for the days of Expansion Packs. :( NWN had two, and Morrowind had two lovely expansion packs. The expansion for Titan Quest added almost as much gameplay as there was in the first game... well, at least it felt that way. And there were significant improvements to the game system that also affected the original game - so, it's like getting an expansion and upgrading your original game.

It's almost like getting a new game, except it's smaller (but also appropriately priced). Now there's just bite-sized content... which I don't really like. My income isn't that disposable, y'know? I'm willing to save up for an expansion, but shelling out money for endless nibbles isn't very filling. Oblivion DLC was particularly dissatisfying. Many were house mods, one had a minor quest... I've played better and larger user-made mods.

One thing about a lot of DLC, is that it comes out relatively close to the actual games release date, and I feel cheated because of it. If you can sell DLC a month after release, why couldn't you have included it in the vanilla to begin with? I feel like they are intentionally leaving things out, just to sell later on.

Even I realize that that is pretty cynical, and I could be wrong, but there are games that make me feel that way.

I want expansion packs, not tiny DLCs, and I would like to have more than one option in which to get them. I'm not going to be filled with self-entitlement and demand that I get them for free (if they are going to be small DLC's), but I expect quite a bit of effort put into them.

I always get the GOTY edition, so I think there should be an online downloadable method and they should be on disc for those who don't have internet access.

That's what Dragon Age Origins did, or so I've read. They had DLC up on release date for the main game. =/

Isn't it so frustrating when people support a business model that is ultimately not in their best interests in the long run? :banghead:

It's hard to say for me. I'd love a Knights of the Nine/Shivering Isles-style expansion pack, but I enjoyed the bite-sized Fallout 3 DLC too- although I finished them each in an afternoon and never touched them again.

Ideally, I'd like to see a smaller amount of quality Fallout 3 DLC (let's say 2 DLCs- no Anchorage or Zeta, please!), and at least one big Expansion.

Of course, it'd be nice (if unlikely) if Bethesda could also do a couple of tiny, free Morrowind-style downloads- they say voice acting is expensive, so why not do one where all the new dialogue is in the form of books and notes? I can't play Morrowind without Bitter Coast Sounds.

Oh, and KILL GFWL. It svcks. Hard.

Any way other than GFWL, and preferably free. I wouldn't mind paying though as long as it doesn't use GFWL.

This. I mean, come on, GFWL has been dying a slow and painful death since it was first implemented. I don't understand how any major developer could actually want to use that garbage.

Please, pretty please, anything but GFWL! I'll pay extra to not have to deal with that garbage. Disc, download, whatever. Just not GFWL.

I wish they would release a couple of smaller Fallout 3 size DLCs and a true expansion like SI. I'm pretty burned out on only the idea of short DLCs. I want places to go back and explore after the quests are done and no one shot only deals like MZ and Anchorage.

SECOND!

I actually like disks. A non-disk download is fine too, so long as I don't have to connect to the Internet during play or installation. I'm fine with anything so long as I don't have to connect to the Internet to use it.

The only problem I really have with GFWL is the fact that you have to buy the points to buy the game. I would be fine with it if I could just give them my credit card. I realize that not everyone has credit cards but...
As for DLC coming out on release - to play devil's advocate, just because the game is released doesn't mean the dev's stopped working on the game that week. The game gets finished and then spends a long time in quality control (although the amount of bugs that ship with the game would make you think otherwise). In one of the interviews they said that their art staff and others spend the quality assurance time making up the dlc so that they have something to do while the game is being finished. While that makes a bit more sense, it makes you wonder when you're paying money for what is basically a hobby job for someone.
The expansion packs are usually better than the game itself - they don't have to waste time setting up the scene, they can throw you straight into the adventure. They also expect that you're a veteran of the game by then so they're much more challenging. For those old enough to remember, look at the Wing Commander expansion packs, or the Jedi Knight EP (Mysteries of the Sith I think it was called). Much better than the original because while it used the same engine it was a little more refined.

Oh, and if Beth says that voice acting is a major hurdle for them, I'm okay with reading text. The voice acting in oblivion was the weakest part of that game anyway.

How:

Downloads of GFWL, Xbox Live and PSN. Then they release a GotY edition with them all on it.

For patches, they should be free. Crappy DLC like Horse Armor should also be free (or just loaded into the game anyways), while big stuff, expansion stuff like KotN and SI should have a reasonable fee.

i hope they dont give out dlc like the week after release like other people have. because they could just put it in the game besides squeezing every last cent out of there many loyal fans (no offense intended)

I want large expansions and maybe a tinnie tiny plug in every once in a while . Since most reviews from the players for Fallout 3 DLC was mixed everyone can say that 90%+ of people who bought SI loved it dearly . Because I rather have one large expansion that everyone loves than maybe DLC with very mixed reviews.
