An Elder Scrolls Movie or TV Series

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 9:27 am

I, for one, would love to see some big name actors in a feature film or TV series.
The reason for HBO as a home for the series is that anything is possible and if HBO won't take it SHO will.

I would cast Sean Bean, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen to name a few.

Id rather HBO continue Rome. Big name actors I'm not fond of, I prefer lesser known who can really add to a show where as big name actors ruin the experience. Kinda hard to get into it when I can assosiate said actor with fifteen different shows.

Aside from that, nah I don't want either, less they stuck strictly to the lore and overwrote some of the changes they made since OB.

Something tells me it wouldne hella expensive to make! Lots of special effects and costume/makeup to make all the races look legit. I'd love to see them Argonians!

This! To be honest for a moment when I watched the live action trailer I really hoped there would be and Argonian there or a Khajiit...

Hell, I'd be happy with a web series like Dragon Age Redemption or Fallout: Nuka Break (although this one's not exactly official).

Odds are they'd make the beast races look like they did in Arena or Daggerfall (basically like an alien from Star Trek), which wouldn't exactly be terrible. They could make an interesting Argonian with the right makeup. Their tails would probably have to be CGI to be believable, though.

I agree with that. Movies and TV series that have big name people in each and every role takes away alot of the feel cause you think about the other parts that actor/actress has played before. And about the lore I agree with you as well. If the kept that in mind if they decided to try it, then it would have the potential to be amazing

True. Itd be high budget to do everything as it is, and effect wizards would probably have their work cut out for them if they wanted the Argonians, Khajiit and ohter beast races to look as awesome as they do in the games

HBOs Rome was cancelled because it was too expensive to keep so authentic. I.can't imagine the cost of an Elderscrolls tv series.

I'd like to see both done, but not live action. And not anime either. I think a movie would be better served for detailing the main story of one of the games, but terrible for more random stories or adventures. Whereas a TV series would be perfect for telling shorter/longer stories or adventures in random parts of Nirn.

Argh, I suppose I'm supposed to choose the lesser of two evils?

I've never seen a game-to-movie conversion that wasn't complete trash, so that's right out.

HBO stands a better chance of being faithful to the game series, but I have to wonder what they'd base an entire series around... Honestly, outside the context of gaming, I don't think that the lore is substantial enough to make an entertaining show. Still, it poses a smaller chance of defiling the series, so I suppose I'll take it over a movie.

I wouldn't say no to a Todd Howard - Peter Jackson - Jeremy Soule trio doing a VERY INSANELY HIGH BUDGET movie, it might actually be good.

How about a web series produced within the Creation Engine. An official Machinima series.

All the sets, props, special effects and characters rendered virtually. Only a need to pay recurring voice actors and the team producing it.

Release each episode as a $2.00 purchase on Steam. Partner with Hulu to run the most recent episode.

When an entire season's worth is available, release it on DVD.

Plotline could be a parallel story taking place alongside, in the wake of, or just prior to the events in the game, that way even though players will know how the main story will unfold, the game will not spoil the series.

The series can run for as long as unique storylines can be written for it. Tie-ins could even be used to promote forthcoming expansions to Skyrim...

They are going to want to be able to make money off of it. So be it TV, Made for cable, Made for DVD or the more cost-effective method I suggest, expect there to be some form of revenue generation involved.

I don't own a television. So I guess my only option is a feature movie.

Neither. But if I had to pick, I suppose it'd be an HBO series. They did a fantastic job with Rome while it lasted and Game of Thrones, but such high-budget productions usually don't last long. I'll be amazed if Game of Thrones gets to season 4.

I'd rather have a TV series than a movie. The Elder Scrolls is far too large to be compressed into a movie. I want to explore the world, and a TV series would do that much more better than a movie. Plus I'd rather they avoided the games to follow as a plot. I've played the game and experienced the story first hand, I don't want to watch it from a perspective that I know I'm not a part of like I was before.

As for HBO; It would be nice, but doubtful. They already have A Game of Thrones, a big budget middle-age-esque fantasy world that HBO seem to be long term on getting all the books into series. But I couldn't see it on any other channel funding it without it coming off as... cheesy. You've got Elves and Beast races, which are all extremely diverse and alien. You could please your hardcoe TES fan with average Khajiit, but standards and people who aren't familiar with the games, and it's; "What the [censored] is this [censored]?"

I'd totally enjoy both tbh. I completely trust Bethesda has the money and the people to make a high quality product.

If they kept it rendered like the digital Beowulf movie, it could make for great evening TV. It's got to be better than half the offerings on places like advlt Swim.
You can do things with DIGI that live action just would be sad, even with the likes of great artisans like Guillermo Del Toro and Rick Baker keeping the craft alive.
I creature like the Guar, or persons like the Ash Zombies, you'd want digital to get that eerie empty skull nastiness.

Both, although I wouldn't see something like this happening for another decade, if at all. I get the feeling that Bethesda would rather keep it a game series than try to create a film/television series out of it.

But the IP is owned by Zenimax Media, which also owns ID and Tango (Doom and Resident Evil). Although Doom was a flop, the Resident Evil series has been a huge success financially. I'm sure that at least two of the corporate directors (Bruckheimer, and Moonves, President of CBS), realize that if film/series investment can return at least a 40-50 percent gross, then it would be a green light for TES... For good or bad. ;)

Of course there are two problems that I see with the making of a film; 1. Bruckheimer. 2. It would be far to great of a challenge to encapsulate the world of TES with cinematic time constraints.

If they were to produce this as an animated series in the same vein to what Rankin & Bass did with the LOTR stories, then I'd be all over that.

Or, there is the suggestion I made and produce a web series WITHIN the Creation Engine, following a story that runs parallel to the events of the game so the series does not spoil the game and the game does not spoil the series. Release it to Steam as either ad-based (unskipable ads attached to the beginning of each episode streamed) or as direct pay per view. or both. Pay $X to watch with no commercial, or endure the commercial.

How come there isn't a 'no' option?

As much as I like the idea, game to film/tv conversions are often huge let downs. I'd much rather they continue to put all their efforts into the games!

Neither for me.

Why does everything has to be a franchise nowadays? I just want to play an amazing computer game. I don't want Hollywood or HBO interfering with that.

well, if a movie or series (TV or Web) were to be produced, it would be by a different team, not by the people developing games. It's like the Tamriel MMO that has supposedly been in planning for a while. ZeniMax would have a team doing that while Bethesda continues to produce games.

The most involvement the game developers would have in either hypothetical project would be in the role of creative consultant.

And in answer to your question, I think that the "no" option was intended to be the one that involves just moving along and not posting... I think...
