Actually Bethesda did buy a license for an elder scrolls movie (buy a license? if thats what you call it) I dont know if this is to stop others from doing it or if they are going to but I would say no to the movie because:

History tends to repeat itself. every game/movie adaptation ever has been crap. Now most of this is because of the movie having very low funds so they gotta make some crap movie, but if they make an elder scrolls movie I will definitely watch it just because im a fan but i wont have high hopes.

That's not true. The first Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil movies were good. As a movie, Doom was actually pretty decent too, but it broke too far from the original Doom plot and fans revolted.

I believe somebody at bethesda commented on that (probably Pete), they said they just like to protect their IP.

I would much rather have them continue the Elder Scrolls Adventures/Legend series; going back through Tamriels history with a good linear adventure game. A graphics Novel would be great as well depending on the style.

When I look at the LotR-movies I think "Yes, please make a movie!"

Then I look at the D&D-movie and think: "Oh, for everything that is good in this world - never make a TES-movie."

If they have a movie thats simply in the world of Nirn, but about original characters in a small scale conflict compared to the games (In other words, a more humanly conflict, not a save the world epic), and the movie exists to extend the lore and not constantly flash "BUY ELDER SCROLLS GAMES!" with strong dynamic characters, then yes.

That being said, I do think Oblivion would make the best choice for a movie, followed by Arena. Would either be good? I wouldn't expect it. But they just have the sorts of plots that would work for the theaters.

I'd rather see a television series, and more novels. I want a huge encyclopedia set of TES lore, also. :celebration:

All that means is that fantasy movies are not by definition good or bad. I think a talented writer, with a dedicated, talented yet INEXPERIENCED film team acting out his or her vision and a producer who'll keep his grubby hands off the actual filmmaking process could make a good one.

I say inexperienced because I don't want this film in the hands of someone who has "learned the limits of the possible," as they say.

I work in the Movie Industry, and quite frankly I can't think of a single director that wouldn't botch it up. Not to mention if it was pitched it would probably only get a $20mil budget, and that's horrible. Video game movies are notorious for being cursed and very few have actually had any success in the box office. In the end, it wouldn't have enough money to make a great film, and it would be a half-assed adaption that wouldn't really please any of the die-hard fans of The Elder Scrolls, unless Bethesda funded the project themselves, which would cost a great deal of money. I, for one, would rather they used the money to continue to create amazing games instead of blowing it on a movie.

Making a movie is like gambling, you have about 5%-10% of coming out with profit.

I vote no.

If they were to make a movie, Obliv would probably be best suited.

A Morrowind miniseries would be neat though.

I say go for it what do they have to lose
But i would rather they wait until maybe 2020 when TES6 and possibly TES7 makes their way in the picture to give them more options and shoot 3 movies or more at the same time to prevent the aging of the cast members. exactly the way they did it in LOTR

im a big fan of LOTR and TES and i am sure a TES movie wont be a faliure

however everyone is bringing up ideas of TV shows and animation will ruin the series do you think George Lucas wanted to go to an animated series of Star Wars no
This was merly a chance for them to milk everything the series had left which is now going downhill

No, I just can't see it being good. I also feel that part of the Elder Scrolls in itself is the player making the choices, not watching cut scenes.

I would love to see a miniseries on the in-game book series "2920, Last Year of First Era"
That would be awesome, you would have large battles between the Empire and Morrowind and see the Tribunal in all of their glory and power.

If there would be one,I'd wish it to be an animated film with quality CGI.Something of Final Fantasy Advent Children caliber. With original story.

If it would be live action, than anything less than LOTR wouldn't satisfy me,and considering LOTR is one of the best (if not THE best) fantasy movies ever made,so it's not easy to catch up with...

ES has enough Lore and history behind it to make a potentially great movie, but it all depends, I could really see some good directors being on board for such a thing if they saw the Lore behind ES, but I'm not even going to mention the games because I don't believe that needs to be said, no one will be that stupid.
I would however almost like to see a movie about Tiber Septim or maybe Barenziah's history, if not then at the very least Symmachus (I swear, he's my favorite Dunmer)

Absolutely not. And if Bethesda ever gets the idea, I hope Uwe Boll signs on to direct as they'd of earned that level of failure.

It would be interesting and I would go see it but it will not be a very successful movie. It would just be another middle earth type movie with Elder Scrolls lore, and most likely the main character will be a boring Imperial Warrior.

I would've liked to see a "maybe" option, cause it depends on how they went about doing it. If they had a new (and interesting/well-written) story, it could work. Live action would be cool too I think. But again, it depends on the story. And there would have to be good actors, or the movie would svck pretty bad...

Yes, but it would have to be pretty heavy on the mind. Complicated story with lots of moral issues and metaphysical refferences...i need to lay off the skooma pipe.
and as for live action or animated i would say...CG.
Maybe an idea for the blender foundation. Elephants dream/Sintel, they have the talent.

and it would have to keep the morrowind art style and be set in the ENTIRE empire.
