An Elder Scrolls Movie

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:04 pm

Simple question, would you ever like to see Bethesda make and Elder Scrolls movie.
Personally, yes I would. I think Animated would probably be the best way to go and a new story would be nice.

Yes and no. On one hand, video game movies tend to be really bad, I'd be worried that the same would be said for the Elder Scrolls' movie. It could be good though, so if it was done, I think the best way to do it would be an animated movie with a brand new story. Making it about one of the previous games would canonize the protagonist of that movie in the eyes of many people, even if it was openly stated to be non-canon.

It could work. They did a novel and I heard it turned out pretty well (still haven't gotten around to reading it myself, I've been playing Redguard) so it isn't impossible that they'd surprise us with an awesome movie.

Sounds like it would turn out pretty horrible.

I figured a book would turn out better than a movie, and look at how many people didn't even enjoy the book (I enjoyed it myself though).

[edit] Also, an adaptation to a previous game would be horrible, and destroy the idea of being able to make our own character. If they did do a movie they should just make a new story. It could even take place before any of the games.

Movie - no.

Really good miniseries, preferably animated - possibly.

Comic/graphic novel - that seems really doable.

If they made a TES movie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX7wtNOkuHo)....no they should not make a TES movie.....or......
it would be cool to see some of the early events like "The Camoran Usurper's Invasion"

No to a movie, yes however to a TV series. However, I'd rather they focus on other characters rather than the main plot from the games. Example; the life of Tiber Septim, the Alessia slave revolt, important events from TES lore so it's familiar enough for fans, and doesn't isolate anyone new.

I voted no on a movie, I am very afraid of any adaptation of a game into a film, watch the Sci-Fi channels late at night. An animated or live action series might work, if the series stuck to events already considered by Bethesda to be canon.

make one. and base it on the first game. if not on the first on oblivion since most people know of that game the most but i would suggest teh first game. include a few of the dungeons and a boss fight. tadah!but please please quality over quantity. no need for special effects all the time if htey r gonna svck. make htem short but sweet. i dont need another dragon ball evolution. that made me cry.

I am extremely against the idea of making a movie based on one of the games. If it's a brand new, unique story but it svcks, then oh well, it's still part of the lore and that's fine, I can accept it. If it's a movie based on a game, it would probably make me look down on that game. It would canonize a protagonist in a game series where you have to create your own character and roleplay (unless they do it on TESA: Redguard) and people would think of the movie instead of the game.

In general, I think it would cheapen whatever game it was based on, if it was based on one.

I'd like an animated one yes. 2D or 3D I don't care, as long as it's well made, not like clone wars.
Maybe a prequel, let's say something happening during Tiber Septim reign? Or the war VS Akavir would be just awesome.

I think it could be done; and live action would be pretty cool. However, they would benefit from taking their time, making sure they have a good story/ good writer/ and actors who are good at what they do--none of those cheesy 'you can tell that they memorized a script' kind of actors who seem unable to make their characters believable (you know, the ones who make you want to bang your head against the wall--or theirs, like 'how did they even get a job? ). I could see it being sort of like a Lord of the Rings kind of movie, but with an Elder Scrolls theme and characters. That would be awesome, as long as it was done right. And definitely a new story (or one that takes place before the games, like with the lore of Tamriel). :obliviongate:

Would really depend how they did it and who they got to do it. My knee jerk response is 'no'. For one thing, aside from the "movies from video games tend to svck" factor, I'd be more worried about them trying to make the "definitive" story. The whole genius of single player RPGs like TES is they have a good bit of open-endedness. I really don't want to loose that, by someone putting "the" story together (not to mention not being consistent to the lore etc).

That being said, an animated series (with good voicing!), or a comic series, told from a variety of view points with no single overall 'story' so to speak, unless it were possibly to be many failed or possible adventurers (all thinking they are the hero... that could definitely work I think! Shoot I think if the put the ingame books to a comic format, it would really rock to read as adaptations. I would definitely collect them!

Here's a tentative "no." I say tentative, because I said no about novels as well, and wound up liking Infernal City.

So if it were done, I would prefer animated overall in whatever style seems best to Bethesda, and I would have it be a story that was not in the games or novels directly. For example, the disaster at Ionith might be an interesting way to cover Akavir without making a game in the continent, or showing Titus mede's rise to power, or Tiber Septim's far that matter. The Death of Calaxes, perhaps. The machinations of King Helseth.

Really, there are any number of TES lore events that could theoretically make a good movie, but as has been mentioned, films made from games can be very horribly mishandled. However, I have seen some good adaptations, even if they weren't as good as the attendant games.

I think it could be cool. They could use it as a bridge between games like the novels. However, instead of an actual movie I think it should be a low budget animated mini series(4 to 8 episodes). It could be put on the Cartoon Network or SyFy or something.

Well I agree but at the same time dissagree. A live action movie would be nice but the animated doesnt sound too good. I mean in my mind it wouldnt be the same. Animated would just seem like a cheap knock off. Now if they actually PROMISED to stick exactly to the story plot then that would be epic but of course they never stick to the plot. The best option would be to make a live action movie of the history like with the Halo: Legends. Or if that doesnt sound good then maybe a few short stories made into one.

If they did, Uwe Boll would have to be chained to a wall somewhere in Russia for the duration of shooting

If it were made by ghibli studios with rich personality colour and charm then maybe an animated adaption, other than that it should be left as a game.
Although Speilberg directing a fallout adaption close to the games art direction would be an idea...

I wouldn't mind seeing a movie set between skyrim and oblivion.

Of course I would like one. is it possible that it will be good? Heck no. Film directors have created many video game movie flops over the years. I even thought that Prince of persia wasn't that good, and that was the best they have had so far. But if they did one heck of a job on an elder scrolls movie, I would have a new favorite movie producer.

If one was ever made, I would just want the movie to take place in the Elder Scrolls universe. No game adaption.

I would actually like to see a movie made from "The Real Barenziah".

That book even takes into consideration not canonizing the main character from Arena, even though those parts were a little cheesy.
