An Elder Scrolls movie. thoughts, opinions

While I am aware this topic has been brought up before. I wanted to add do it in my own way. I think any Elder Scrolls movie needs to be done. Preferably by a director with both the smarts to do so and the finances.

You see, everyone is so against the idea of a movie of the elder scrolls because, we all know that the majority of films based off books or games turn out bad. Really bad in fact. But here is the thing. The Elder Scrolls universe is vast. It's history rich with stories for the plucking that have yet to be covered.

Personally, If I were to have made an Elder Scrolls movie, I'd make it about the mortal lives of the Tribunal Gods [Vehk, Almalexia, Seht] and also Voryn Dagoth. The movie would depict their lives from youth [as good friends] growing up and surviving the tribulations of their times. [i.e. War with the Dwemer, Invasion of the Nords, and various other things] and for the ending I'd imagine it where it leaves off with the Betrayal of Dagoth, Voryn being [thought to be killed] cut down, and Neravar soon dying after and the Tribunal forming. The last scene would hint to the Neravar Incarnates story and prophecy in Morrowind.

Things like that, uncovered by game or film or book, could make for an amazing movie if made right.

Thoughts, Opinions?

There are a few things which make the potential for an Elder Scrolls movie slim...

First, the background. The TES world is vast, complicated and something that wouldn't translate well into a short (say, 2 hour) movie. Movies require that you assume no one knows diddly about the world its in. You have to build that knowledge through the movie its self. Lord of the Rings did this wonderfully, setting its self up with a narrative driven by Bilbo, as if he were recording the history of the events. A similar approach could be done, with a Moth Priest or some other scholar being the historical anchor, but then you encounter the second problem.

The Metaphysics. In order to explain, well... just about anything in the Elder Scrolls, you have to delve into the metaphysics of the world. Which is, often, confusing to even the most familiar. Just to explain the Tribunal, you'd have to explain the Aubris, the Convention, Lorkhan, the Daedra and, got forbid, Dragonbreaks. Movie goers are, on average, idiots. Or, at least, they like to be treated as idiots. Overly intellectual plots and subtext tend to be poorly received.

Even if you could deal with both these issues, you have the problem of the 'Fantasy Curse'. The overwhelming majority of fantasy movies preform poorly. We (being nerds, gamers and geeks) are not so powerful yet as to make Fantasy and Science Fiction the cornerstones of the movie industry. Maybe in time, but right now the only movies which really succeed with any regularity are slasher flicks and romantic comedies (cursed be both their houses).

If, and it is a big IF, you could pull off a good, honest and representative TES movie, you still have to get it bast the idiot viewer. If it's not near perfect in its execution, it'll just go the way of D&D.
