Elder Scrolls Music Appreciation thread

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:09 am

I'm not sure why, but one of the main reasons I love the Elder Scrolls series is because of the relaxing music that plays when you're not in combat or a dungeon. It's so nice to hear audible music that's so nice and relaxing. Some games can barely do combat music right, and the elder scrolls manages to do it all.

anyone else have an appreciation for the music in TES. Feel free to discuss and comment, maybe even post a link to your favorite song.

Wasn't sure if this could go in the suggestion thread...

I love Elder Scrolls music. I'm more of a fan of Morrowind and Oblivion's music, but I like some of Arena and Daggerfall's music, as well.

Well, I suppose when we can have more than 16 bit music it will get a bit better. Still great music though.

That is also another one of my favorites. Elder Scrolls games always seem the right mix of peaceful songs and powerful songs.

I love Nerevar Rising.

What I really love is the Public Music (the music that plays when you're in towns/settlements/friendly interiors), and the Explore music (the music you get when you're just walking around in the wilderness) from Oblivion.

I love Morrowind's Explore tracks too, I just know them by "mx_explore_2" "mx_explore_6" and "mx_explore_7".

I agree completely, it adds so to the game in my opinion, only game soundtrack I like better than Oblivion's is Rome: Total war's.

I agree it's totally awesome, I can't pick a favorite between Nerevar Rising or Reign of The Septims. But a few of my favorites are Sunrise of Flutes, King and Country and Dusk at Market.

Much love to Jeremy Soule. I can't wait to see what he does with TESV!

Glory of Cyrodiil is my favorite track from Oblivion though I like most of them a lot. Favorite Morrowind track is Peaceful Waters.

A lot of the time I find gaming music very cheesy, but I can not say the same for the TES games, especially Morrowind. Oblivion's was also great, and in fact, in matched the feeling of the game equally as well as Morrowind's did, but I like Morrowind's scenary better.

Does anyone relate a particular track to a certain weather/location or is it just me? Like Peace of Akatosh with the West Weald, probably just me. (:

Yes, I do. When I hear Wings of Kynareth I instantly imagine walking out of a dungeon and looking into the horizon of the Gold Coast.

Awesome, I generally think of walking around at night when I listen to King & Country. :)

I associate Glory of Cyrodiil with forests and loading screens. I never hear that song outside of a loading screen , so that's where I get that from, but ever since watching an E3 demo for Oblivion, I always imagine Glory of Cyrodiil playing while I'm slowly walking through and admiring a forest with an Ayleid ruin in sight on a sunny day. I always associate the Road Most Travelled to any roads I'm travelling along on Vvardenfell.

As much as I loved MW and Ob's soundtrack, I thought Daggerfall did an amazing job here.

For Oblivion I've always loved Harvest Dawn, but the whole soundtrack was just amazing. For Morrowind, Peaceful Waters was always such a different, and magical sounding song.

I haven't played Daggerfall enough yet to know the music, but listening to it around on youtube I've found a few that I like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0w9tPnYX2I&feature=related and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vIeqK8J3bI&feature=related.

I also liked the temple music but I can't find it on youtube. Daggerfall is my least favorite ES game, but it definitely had the best music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPEEp5R_pOo is easily my favorite track from the whole series. Being a flutist, I also love Sunrise of Flutes for the solo at the beginning and all of Morrowind's explore tracks.

Does anyone know what orchestra records the music?

Scanning the web I can't find anyone he exclusively works with, However I found he uses computers as well as real players and combines them, well according to an IGN article I've read. But the Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra (according to the song I have from iTunes) perform the Play! series covering some of the TES music.

It would be a shame if he just used robots for TESV's soundtrack.
