Elder Scrolls is not Fallout!

Post » Sat Aug 22, 2009 8:53 am

I know many users has already posted this topic but I am posting it anyway. Ok Fallout is a good game but lets not make Skyrim the same thing! Fallout is more of a gun based game, set in present-ish day with present-ish gameplay. Elder Scrolls is not that! It is a more fantasy, sword like game. And I like that, I believe that guns add a element that I am not a fan of. I prefer a Bow and Arror. Elder Scrolls is not Fallout, I dont want any Fallout system in it. I like how Oblivion and Morrowind did it.

Hey TheElderPrime, welcome to the forums :)

I'm afraid that in the Skyrim section of the forums, you aren't going to get very exciting or varied answers for your poll though, not sure why you are so jumpy about Fallout though, sure it's not TES, but there are certain things TES can learn from Fallout, including Skill and attribute based speech-checks.

TES....

there is a much broader variety of roleplaying archetypes within a fantasy setting.

my FO characters tend to always become lone wandering scroungers.

Hey, Welcome to the forums.

Gotta say Elder Scrolls beats the fallout games hands down. But maybe you'd expect that reply in an Elder Scrolls section of the forums. On a balanced notes Fallout had things that Oblivion lacked and vice versa. Hopefully some lesson will be learned by Bethesda to make an epic TES:V. I don't think there is any need to worry about TES becoming too much like the fallout series. Bethesda knows what their fans want out of an Elder Scrolls game by now, more or less anyway :P

I like both. Although TES has amzing lore I must say Fallout 3 was a fantastic game. Exploring in that game was far more enjoyable. Here's to hoping they can add features from FO3 and FONV that players enjoyed.

You don't have to worry sir. BGS did create The Elder Scrolls IP after all. If there is anything that they take from Fallout, it's merely because it can further improve the game experience, and make it that much more memorable.

I'm on the same page as you OP

There are however, some aspects to Fallout that aren't necessarily all that bad to add to the TES series though most of these additions would actually be aspects that were already implemented in past TES games.

A reputation system for example has already been present in past TES games and should make a return. Rather than a faction just hate you for killing or attacking a member of that faction, actions you take with other factions would have an impact on opposing factions.

hardcoe mode- though not officially part of any TES game in the past (AFAIK) a lot of players did add mods or rp'd that they had to eat, drink, and sleep to survive.

However, there are aspects that should not be implemented such as VATS or Fallout style perks. Such nontraditional additions would detract from the TES universe and turn quite a few people off.

I can never understand the need for people to want to incorporate aspects of one series into another series when that just would not work for that series especially when there is already a set lore for that game.

As a Fallout fan, I find the irony in these "TES is not Fallout. No Fallout in my TES!" pleas staggering. :P

The series' now are so similiar in their cores, that I think it's hard to make a TES game now that isn't in some way reminiscent of Fallout 3. However, the good thing for the pleaers is that they more than likely will get what they ask for.... a solid TES game.

Fallout (series).

I first heard about Bethesda for them licensing the Fallout IP ~Its why I bought Oblivion; to see what they could do with a native IP.

Skyrim is probably a title that I will buy (if there is a Non-Steam version). I Bought NV with Steam ~because it was Fallout.

Both

Morrowind is my favorite game of all time. In my mind it is completely perfect. As a result, the over-simplified Oblivion was a massive disappointment.

On the other hand, both Fallout 3 and NV, while not on the same level as Morrowind, were both games that I enjoyed very much.

If I were to rank them it would look like this...
1)Morrowind

2)Fallout 3
3)FalloutNV

4)Oblivion

I love both series, but TES I find I spend more time playing. Fallout 3 and New Vegas is like a once or twice play through while TES is over and over again. I just spend more time with the TES series than I do with the 2 Bethesda Fallouts.
