Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, 202X

So I'm just sitting here wishing Oblivion was as amazing graphically and storywise as I remember it, and an idea sprung to mind. What if Elder Scrolls 6, was actually an ultra version of Elder Scrolls 4? Whoa whoa put down the pitchforks and hear me out.

There are some OBVIOUS initial problems with spending years making a game you have already made once, so instead of "remaking" Oblivion, I'm thinking retcon ES4 into a sort of "demo" for the glorious Elder scrolls 6.

All the planning for it has been done, half the concept art is there. Except this time, you have every bit of bad feedback from the original, as well as from Skyrim and both fallouts in terms of fun gameplay mechanics.

- Old familiar map, but rebuilt completely from scratch. Bigger, fleshed out, better.

- Remake some quests, totally rewrite others, introduce new quests through larger cities and settlements!

- Outdated/unfun mechanics restructured or tossed. eg: No more pockets full of repair hammers, build modular swords, from blade, to guard to pommel, and encrust them with enchanted gems(or whatever) instead!

- Introduce gameplay with replayability. eg: take the fallout4 name system, but instead of using it for the player, set up randomized, named bandit/deadra bounties given out by fighters guild/villagers for the player to hunt. Make these bandits tough to kill, have them run away, (nemesis system, Shadow of Mordor being totally coincidental :P)

- Add all the features you had to cut the first time around! (EG: Revisit Oblivion's original goals for cutting edge AI, and bring that concept into the 2020's)

- Etc etc etc

Not conventional, I suppose, but I think Oblivion had/has such incredible potential, and is a fairly monumental point in the series(as games) history, that a re-imagining, with enough ambition to make it new would be awesome to play, and an incredible addition to video game history.

no.. just no..

no offense or anything, but we don't need to see any of the past games remade..

its not just you. people are asking for their favorite TES to be remade at least once a month.. heck, on the same page as this thread we have a person putting forward your same idea only with Morrowind, i remember a thread about doing it for Daggerfall not far back, and the Skyrim section constantly sees people asking for a remake or remaster..

in my opinion, the only TES titles that could realistically both get a remake and benefit from it are the two spin-off (Battlespire and Redguard), due to the nature of those titles. although, I can't comment on Arena as I've never actually played it..

i loved Oblivion, but I don't want a remake.. while I loved all the games within the "Reign of the Septims" arc, that arc ended along with the 3rd era. time to push forward with the arc we have (which many atm consider to be "the Thalmor Arc")

EDIT: like Martin said "the 3rd age has ended, and now a new age dawns"

Okay don't get me wrong, I've thought about it a little farther than "I want X"

Oblivion had flaws, it was generic, the quests were lukewarm at best, the systems all worked about half as well as anyone hoped they would. Every reason people usually ask for a remake, is NOT present in Oblivion.

On the other hand, Oblivion's setting has massive potential. The location is perfect for a wide variety of terrain, the story has a cool theme, if it were properly executed. I'm not saying "remake Oblivion" as much as I am saying, "Make the game Oblivion could have been"

In all respects, everything bethesda wanted for Oblivion was a massive flop, and yet the game was wildly successful, If they had a base to launch from, I think they could make something incredible.

It's not like the main story has any impact on anything after it anyways. The only thing they would have to follow would be "Hero does some stuff. Martin dies at the end." Again, I'm not saying remake Oblivion, I'm saying revisit the ideas and make it better.

As cool as seeing a familiar game updated and fleshed out would be, I'd rather see something entirely new. I've been longing to see Hammerfell for ages. We kind of have that now with ESO, though. As well as all the other places we haven't seen yet, I guess. But there would be vast differences too, I'm sure, and much more detail. Hammerfell and Summerset would be top of my list, though. Actually, what would be cool is if they turned the whole series on its head and we got to explore Akavir...

But anyway, I don't want to derail this into yet another TES6 speculation thread. I like your idea, but I'd rather see something completely new.

I wouldn't mind briefly revisiting some small part of Cyrodiil in a future game, tbh. But beyond that, I think I'm pretty towards the whole "no remakes" ideology for the time-being.

It would be cool if some game maybe began with a cameo or something. Perhaps an opening sequence that takes part in a place like the revamped Imperial City, then the player ends up captured because of some misunderstanding/framing incident, and then gets taken to the region where the game is set in.

Like, your character is in the Imperial City and just so happens to be in the area for whatever reason when someone important gets assassinated and due to the meddlings of a cult/ some conspiracy, your character ends up getting blamed for it, then hauled off via a prison ship to the game's region. Perhaps the ship could crash, it could get attacked, or some protagonist group could interfere last minute. I could see this being a bit difficult in a Hammerfell game, due to it no longer being part of the Mede empire, but perhaps it could be on its way to some prison camp in High Rock.

But yeah, beyond that, I'd pass.

That is fair, the purpose behind the suggestion (aside from nostalgia, I will not pretend that is not a factor) is they already have so much of a head start in terms of having the direction lain out, so much focus could be put towards features and raising the bar on every aspect. Instead of having a think-tank on "do we implement a mages guild, and what is this quest going to be" they can jump straight to "Mannimarco was lackluster as goblin poop, I want this team to redesign him and his elite guard while we cut the last three quests and implement something totally new".

Anyways, at this point I'm just going to be re-iterating everything I've already said, so there it is. I can appreciate the want for new, and I don't see Bethesda remaking any of their games regardless of the discussion here (You mean they wouldn't make multi-billion dollar decisions based on one person saying something on the internet? What is this!) I just want people to know that at least a little thought was put into it, and hopefully people who are against it have given it at least a little objective thought before writing it off as hair-brained fanaticism. :)

Yea, this. Don't make me break out my colored text again, OP. :nono:

It was? Guess this means I enjoy games which are massive flops, then.

That is, assuming Skyrim isn't to TES what The End Times is to vanilla (Fantasy) Warhammer.

Can you read? I mean, not in the sense of knowing the definition of individual words, but rather being able to comprehend the different meanings of a string of words put into succession? Here, before this turns into a back-and-forth, I'll re-iterate

Bethesda, Ambitious. Oblivion, not live up to ambition. Oblivion still great game.

Anyways, I think everything has been said that there is to say on the topic. Thanks for the opinions everyone.

If they they did that then the battle for bruma might actually be epic instead of spending hours closing oblivion gates and sending guards to help thinking theres gonna be this epic ass battle only to get there and find out there's only like 10 people. Like wtf man only part of that whole game that disappointed me to no end.

The beginning of a glorious new age where Archaeon finally realises that a horse is no mount for the Everchosen of Chaos?

By the time I had gotten to that section I had beaten all the guild quests so I garnered followers from the Dark Brotherhood and Mage's Guild and possibly somewhere else (though I recall being limited to only a few). Made the battle so much more meaningful, combining all the side quests and clashing them with the main quest for what felt like an epic battle! That made up for it to me and was the best experience in the whole game because it was really the only point where it felt like everything else that I did in the game (beyond acquiring awesome gear for myself) really mattered. Would have been even better if there were even more people of course, though.

Speaking of which,
Spoiler
I could never finish that battle without either Baurus or Jauffre dying. Is it possible to save both? I did it like ten times before I gave up and settled for a living Baurus.

I've never had any of the "major" characters die, only one or two of the city guards... Of course I always tend to do that quest at fairly low level, since I usually do the main quest first...
