I don't think the question here is how we're handing what looks like a delay.. I think the question is how would we feel if Bethesda flat-out stated they're not going to do TES 5 at all. I really doubt they'd ever say such a thing, no matter what their plans are. Even if they don't want to do another TES for the moment, they don't want to damage any potential customer base by saying such things, 'cause they might want to dust it off and do more in the future.
Considering how they re-vamed their development strategy when making Oblivion, then tweaked it again with Fallout 3, I think they're just delaying to see how well everything works before making plans on trying to improve it. Who knows, though. Until they make any statement, there's not much point in any speculation or debate. Bethesda does too good a job of dancing around the flaming bush lol.
