Elder scrolls 5: skyrim demo

Post » Thu Sep 23, 2010 9:07 pm

I think instead of bethesda making an demo for fans to play before the New elder Scrolls is released, they should bring out the full version of the character creator.
That instead of the first hour or 2 making a character, you can just load one up from your hard drive and start playing.

I've got some good news, and some bad news: The good news, they won't do a demo so you get the "instead of making a demo" part of your wish. The bad news is you will most likely (as in 90% probability or more) still have to wait until 11-11-11 and the release of the game to get your hands on the character creator. Enjoy. :D

where the [censored] do people get these [censored] ideas...?

Why does anyone really need a character creator before the game is release. Makes no sense to me, making a character is part of the game...

Yes indeed.

I'd love talking about it some more, but you all do know... there will be no demo. it's a 100% case. If I'm wrong, I owe 50$ for each user on this forum.

I could use that.

Say, how about we all take a trip up to Maryland?

I sure wouldn't mind a character creator. When the game finally starts after waiting for months, I don't have time to spend hours tweaking the controls. During initial character creation in the actual game or when "exiting sewers" (or however that will be implemented) you get the option to load in a previously created character and tweak from there if needed. I could have 20 different characters ready to go, just as I want them, by the time the game is installed.

You don't have time to create a character but you do have for hundreds of hours of gameplay?

The thing that some people are not thinking of is sometimes it takes a while to design a character. Character creation also involves how you character looks. And some people like to spend a long time, upwards to an hour or more perfecting such a look. I think it would be a neat idea.

Unless you have a link to someone from Bethesda directly saying that, it is possible. If you don't want to discuss the possibility of a demo then you don't have to post in these threads. It's quite simple really. :spotted owl:

Pete has confirmed no demo. I've seen him tweet that more than once actually.

Simplicity I think is the thing that Beth should aim for with a Demo.

There will be no demo. Simple to comprehend.

The title of the thread is misleading. The OP is suggesting and idea in lieu of a traditional demo.

If you're only concerned with what your avatar looks like, then maybe this isn't the right game for you.

That seems like an odd thing to say, considering how much effort you could put into face construction in Obliv/Morrowind/FO3/FONV. And how much mod development goes into hairstyles, better skin textures, tattoos, fancy clothes & armor, etc.

Aesthetics has always been a strong component of Bethesda games, as far as I was aware.

I see no reason why Skyrim shouldn't have a demo. I know what Pete said, so there won't be a demo. But I still think every game of this stature should have a demo.

I don't want demo's or something so you can upload characters and such from your harddisk.

I want to play the game as a whole

It was either MW or OB I forget which but I think it was Todd who said that ES games are generally not the type of game where they do demos. So I would not count on seeing a demo.

Because it's hard to create a limited demo for an open world game that still gives a good impression of what the game is like? That's development time better spent on other things IMO.

You don't have to count on anything happening or not. Pete said no demo. That means no demo.

Lol. I love when people hate a topic, but can't resist posting in it.
Yeah, the character creation is part of the game as a whole, but people want to play skyrim before they can. So, they want to mess with the creator. It'd be fun to preview characters. Why not?

Yeah I would like to play around with character models. If not that i want them to make a video or a fair few screenies I'm sure there will be per-release pictures of races and showing how different they are this time round.

I have often thought that it would be nice if Bethesda would release what would be the bonus attributes of each race early so I could put some forethought into my characters but I didn't go so far in thought to think of pre-releasing a character creator. I think it is a GREAT idea. They could even make it bonus content if you pre-order the collectors edition or something.

I'd love to play with the character creation as a teaser prior to release. Especially if its on iOS.

I'd like this, even just to experiment with and test out the new face mechanics. Didn't Bioware do something similar to this with Dragon Age?

Exactly! Making the Game Better before we even can buy it!
Though I would much rather have this than a demo, I wouldn't want just part of the game, and waiting is annoying part of the fun!

Everyone is just seeing the "I think instead of bethesda making an demo" part. I DO NOT WANT A DEMO. I was only hoping that maybe bethesda would release the character creator so that, like i said before, you dont have to spend 2 to 3 hours making them. You would beable to enjoy the full Skyrim experience as soon as you get your game. 11/11/11 is a long wait for an amazing game, so why would you want to spent more time creating your character, when you can jump right into the action. Hell i never really messed witht the character creator on Oblivion, i just wanted to jump right into the game. It's like people just got to the stuck on the demo part. WHAT? Character Creator= awesome
