Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Preview

Post » Thu Oct 13, 2011 12:21 pm

A fresh preview for you guys here, it's quite an enjoyable read with plenty to consume, I am glad this preview is longer then the average one, probably the same intel we already figured out by now but still, enjoy

Thanks a lot. Always great to see some info. Even though some of it isn't new when people post previews, they offer a different perspective so it's good enough for me.

Indeed, I had a mighty laugh, I enjoy the style of writing/narrating his preview, henceforth why I selected it.

So someone needs to be fanatical obsessed to write a pretty entertaining and detailed preview of a game? Okay. I don't know about you but this isn't bad, he enjoyed himself and told us everything he figured out so far. Not to mention, it's average or even greater in length.

Have a good day either way.

This guy sounds terrible. He spent the first five minutes of his demo staring into the animated fire, waiting for a cutscene to tell him what to do. When he met the first introductory enemy he stood 15 feet away from the archer and swung at air until he died from arrows and getting hit in the back.

Exactly... lol. The review was bad. Anyone who's played TES knows there are no cut-scenes. Just some scripted animated scenes on occasion.

And straying bullet. Yea, you have to know games to review them. TES relies on knowing what it's about, if you don't you don't really know what you're playing or why. TES is context sensetive.

Exactly. "I saw this on the E3 video. I should go there." bothered me a bit, he clearly hasn't done his homework.

Hold up, let me first pull this one up before I go on further:

At first, I assumed this would be some kind of cutscene as the graphics were very impressive. I was slightly mesmerized watching the flames lick the open air in front of me. I was then helpfully advised that the demo had started.

He first assumed and then he realized it wasn't, either by himself or the helpful reminder of the PR person behind him. Also, cut the guy some slack really. He previews a game and is obviously interested, we might as well want and have more fans clamouring for this game then the 'hardcoe' loremasters who played every Elder Scrolls to date.

I don't know. Maybe the review was aimed at people who've played a little bit of TES but not too much. I want new fans for the game, but I think previews and reviews should be done by hardcoe TES enthusiasts. My evidence for their amazing work is Sammuthegreat who's reviews are on these forums. Better than pretty much any 'professional' review I've ever seen. For any other game that preview was awesome, but I couldn't relate to him as a player at all and the things he said often sounded misinformed or like rehashed catch-phrases that are going around. Thanks though, it was better to read than nothing. Cool review for someone who's not a TES enthusiast.

Daggerfall (TES2) did have cinematic cutscenes ;)

Also a short preview ( which was more a 40 min glimpse) does not have to be systematically targetted at the existing TES fan base. There is also players that have never touched a TES game before and that will have an innocent start on Skyrim and these will be more inclinated to have similar reaction to the tester in the preview.

And like the OP, i liked to read this innocent tryout of Skyrim. It's refreshing. There is and will be plenty other more experienced TES preview and review for the hardcoe fan base to read on.

This had good news in it, it proves that the game has very difficult areas not meant for a level 1 character.

"“Sorry, I couldn’t help that, I put the difficulty up for you” The PR Rep smiled as he went into the options screen and set my difficulty lower ‘so I could play more’ what a nice guy."

This shows off that the Radiant Story AI isn't that good = It was the same quest but with a slighly different item, a slightly different thief and a slightly different location.

An entertaining and enjoyable read. Have to disagree with the "bad preview" comments - it's just another perspective- and the fact that this was someone who doesn't necessarily know about the Elder Scrolls but seems to enjoy the game regardless. A good sign. Only thing I had a problem with was the "golden mask/claw" thing.. oh well.

Wait wait wait....enemy NPCs can summon "several" creatures at once but you can only summon one until you get a high enough conjuration perk where you can summon, *gasp*, two!?!?!? lame Bethesda, lame...

Resurrect allowed you to have multiple minions in Oblivion. Now it's its own spell.

The writer also called the Golden Claw a Golden Mask. I don't think he'd understand the difference between summoned minions and resurrected minions. Either that or the enemies he was fighting were just Draugr that were there anyways, and the necromancer was on his own.
