Elder Scrolls in 3d

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:04 pm

I know its a relatively new technology and we can't expect to see it saturate the gaming market for a few years, but how cool would tes be in 3d? Just imagine playing morrowind or oblivion in avatar fashion. It's too bad tes 5 is probably too far in development to throw 3d in

3d is done on the graphics card, if u have a new card with the most recent drivers, it can be done with most any game that uses 3D graphics.

wouldn't you need a monitor/tv that supports 3d? I was also under the impression that the software would have to be manipulated in a certain way, just like movies

IMO, 3D cheapens things. Films are all about the new shiny 3D graphics. I haven't saw a film with 3D with a good story in a long time. The most I'll see is a mediocre one. I don't want TES to go the same way. Besides, with this 3D fad going on, it isn't special when something is in 3D. Back when it was an occasional thing it's nice, but it svcks when people milk it and make it a common thing. I want a 3D film once every 5 years. Then I'd like it.

Also, it hurts my eyes :(

Industry rumors are saying that we will have Full HD, glasses free 3D in the 2013 Panasonic PDP and higher end LCD models.

Something we have to accept is the fact that LCD/LED tech will NEVER be in the same league as Plasma 3d, until we reach the 480HZ (LG has already announced a 480HZ LED) or really the 600hz range for LCD/LED. Its just that simple, so until then, we will have ghosting , artifacts ,etc. (This can be seen when comparing the Samsung 240hz 3D LED vs the Panasonic VT25. Panasonic Plasma 3D is in a league of its own) Give this 2-4 years for this to trickle down to the PC monitor realm, and you get 5-7 years MINIMUM (Most likely closer to 10 years) before we see good, solid 3D for the PC. Maybe if there were to be a TES VI, or TES VII, they could really do 3D right, but I don't want 3D with the current half'ass tech that we have now. (For PC)

But for anyone who thinks 3D svcks, try a demo at Best Buy on the Panasonic plasma. It hands down OWNS the movie theater 3D, and is honestly more natural looking, cooler, and less straining than IMAX. This is the only realy solid 3D tech out there right now, but the glasses part kills me, and this is why it is still half assed.

I only want it when 3d has been perfected, but I find it likely that TESV will be in 3D

I find 3D to be one of those things to where everyone loses interest in it and we won't see 3D taken seriously for another 20 years...or it will continue to remain popular and won't go away...

But I'm putting bets on the former.

Its here to stay IMO. Studios and Manufacturers are pushing for it. They've invested tons of money, and 3D is a developing standard. Once glasses free 3 hits, it will really take off. I'd give it 6-10 years before it becomes a standard feature.

Only reason 3D has been brought up again, is because the newer technologies can go upwards to 120hz, because when they had CRT if could easily go up there, but when they introduced LCD they had difficulties, so they quit making 3D. Now they can do that on LCD, aswell.
And 3D doesn't take much, as almost every game is compatible with it, whether the developers does it or not.

The last thing I need is my TES experience to be cheesed up with things flying at the screen in a cheesy fasion.

I really don't get this sudden re-emergance of 3D, and what I can't even fathom is how people actually go for it.

3D can cause bad headaches, nausea, and a whole entire plethora of negative consequences because of long-term use. 3D T.V.s are being banned in some places because of it.

I don't like the idea, but if it's toggle-able, then I'll be fine with it.

I think gaming needs to stop focusing on shinier graphics (that is 3D) and start focusing on storytelling, gameplay, etc. It doesn't matter how pretty something is, if its boring its not going to be a good game. 3D is still a gimick imo, a technology meant to say "look what we can do" rather than to open up new avenues for artistic endeavors or to tell new stories.

TESIV: Oblivion can be played in 3D, why on earth wouldn't TESV be 3D ready??

Bethesda better not make it 3D if they know what's good for them.

I agree with Hircine, though it seems like an easy task to make a game 3d, like its an after thought to just run the thing through some 3d processor. Maybe im wrong.

Either way, no 3d for me, no headaches plz! No glasses plz! No 3d monitor required plz!

Yeah it's literally just basically having a second view point in game offset horizontally from the original, with some processing to sort of half merge them then make it work with the glasses.

Maybe a spin-off. I've often said Eye of Argonia should be a DS game, so may as well put it on the 3DS.

Otherwise though, unless Nintendo's no-glasses 3D becomes the norm I'd rather not. I hate those glasses.

Pretty much the reason stories in video games svck is because we, as gamers, demand to have pretty graphics. If you take a video game's story, get rid of all the shooting and swordplay, what do you have?

Anywhere from 12-60 minutes of character development and plot advancement.

Yeah, we did this to ourselves, folks. And I don't see anything changing unless there's a collective cultural change toward how and why we play video games.

The same can be said for a few films, such as Avatar, which was real slick looking but had a very shallow story. But film doesn't, for the most part, rely on cheap gimmicks.

I totally want to see Daggerfall in 3D! With those 2D trees and shrubbery just sticking out at you, and 2D monsters clumsily moving about in the room in 3D.

Kidding aside, It would be pretty cool to see the Elderscrolls games in 3D graphics, but not entirely necessary from my viewpoint. I'm fine with just HD.

3d is done on the graphics card, if u have a new card with the most recent drivers, it can be done with most any game that uses 3D graphics.

I don't think you understand the process of making a good 3D product. You can't just throw in 3D afterwards, or have a "stock" 3D button experience if the games not specifically made for 3D.
Ever seen a movie that wasn't originally supposed to be made into 3D and then they added it after? Alice in Wonderland, anyone?
Now, compare that to how Avatar looks. Alice in Wonderland wasn't filmed for 3D, it was added after editing. Avatar was filmed for 3D, and that was the plan and intention from the beginning.
Same thing with video games. If you have a game that wasn't meant to be 3D, it's going to look awful if you add 3D to it. How does the card know what to make 3D, what to pop out, what to shade, etc? It doesn't, and it looks awful.

As long as you can switch it off I don't care. 3D looks cheesy to me and it makes me dizzy, so it's not my thing, but it seems like it sells games so I can see why a developer would want it.

everyone.........and i mean everyone i know HATES having to wear those stupid glasses whenever they see 3d movies. just saw toy story 3 yesterday with some friends and we were going out of our way to find a 2d version just so we didnt have to wear the glasses and also not have to pay extra for it.

my favorite part was the bin where you were supposed to recycle the glasses. kiss my ass. i paid extra for them im taking them home so that i can throw them away in my own garbage.

i cant wait till this dies again. every few years they try and bring it back for one simple reason. big ass tvs.........thats it. now that more and more people are getting big ass tv and can watch movies with surround sound on blu ray at their home or a friends home. its a threat to them. by the way if you dont have a big ass tv or a friend that has one go and find some rich friends and hook up with them. they like to hang out at malls in suburban neighborhoods, coffee shops (not starbucks though that is the mcdonalds of coffee shops) and theme parks.

as for the technology on the movies screens. its not new its the same old two pictures being displayed at once slightly askew and wearing the glasses tricks the brain into seeing one image. i dont know how it works on the video game monitors or nvidias glasses but what i do know is that it cuts your framerates in half on the nvidia 3d. sorrry ill keep my extra fps.

if and when they get video gaming 3d with no glasses i will then be interested. until then i think not.

oh and if you and any your family were watching the commercial with the 3d tv and the happy family sitting in there living room wearing those stupid glasses. if you turned to each other and said "that looks like fun" then you and your entire family are a bunch of knobs.
