If Elder Scrolls V was an MMO Would you still Play it?

Post » Thu Aug 05, 2010 10:51 pm

I my self will support Bethesda and ZeniMax online even if the newly rumored ES is an MMO, this is not to speculate about it but to give your reasons and thoughts on what would cause you to play such a revolutionary product or toss it a side as something not to be touched. Let's keep it intelligent with no flaming as we know the mods like to step in and fix things.

For me, the MMO's are about the community and the experience, if ZeniMax Online nails these topics with amazing gameplay, graphics and content as a second I would be sold and buy it in a heart beat.

Even if you don't like MMO's what would get you to play it?

Why would TES V be an MMO? That doesn't make sense. If there was an Elder Scrolls MMO, I would not play it, but TES V will not be the possible MMO. TES V will be a single-player game developed by Bethesda Game Studios, which does not make MMOs, and I can't see them handing over their main series to the MMO developing part of the company while they make the spin-off.

.....Yes, if I could fix that part I would *shrugs* as you have seen that the wrest of my post never even mentions the possibility of ES V being an MMO.

Has there ever been a successful MMO on consoles?

It makes a difference. If, by some impossible chance, TES V was an MMO, I would complain on these forums as vocally as possible, screaming insults at ZeniMax and questioning their competency along the way. If ZeniMax online just released an MMO spin-off while I still got my single-player TES V from Bethesda Game Studios, I wouldn't have any problem whatsoever. Either way, however, I would not play an Elder Scrolls MMO. Paying monthly fees to play a game is something I would never do.

No. I don't play MMO's, for the reason Seti18 said above, even if it was TES (which I'm sure would be pretty rad). But as Seti18 said, TESV wouldn't be an MMO, it'd be a single player.

It's NOT an MMO. Threads like this only continue to allow people to stir up the speculation thread with "It's gonna be an MMO guise!" posts. Search function, search function, search function.

Apparently people don't even realize that I already admitted to making a mistake in the naming of this thread...sheeesh.

It would have to be pretty ground breaking... and free.

Ugh, I know I know. I've seen you enough in the speculation thread to know you know better about the game. Nevertheless, after seeing bombardments of posts concerning MMO and the rumour my brain grows weary.

It's not a given that you have to pay monthly fees for a MMO, just look at Guildwars, Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty Black Ops. It would svck to have to pay to play but still if, like the poll says, it was the most groundbreaking thing i've ever seen hell yes i would play it. If its a dinky piece of crap, no i wouldn't. It depends on the how much they have to sacrifice in game content for multiplayer.

If it was a REALLY good MMO, I'd probably play it. If not, I'd at least try it.

I voted "maybe." If it was a spin off that had no bearing on, or effected the single player games made by Bethesda Game Studios, then I would at least give it a try.

If that would be the only Elder Scrolls game we'd ever get in 10 years... then I would have no other choice.

I doubt if they could even come close to the immersion and freedom they can offer with a singleplayer game. And those two aspects are the things I love most about TES games. In an MMO, where eventually everyone becomes the shiny world-saving paladin or the evil overlord, it just doesn't feel right.

On a second though, I don't doubt it at all - I KNOW it's not possible.
Hence I am very unlikely to play it, if it'd be an mmo.

I've tried a couple of MMO's and sooner or later I got fed up with every single one of them, its not the cost for me, you can relatively easily find free to play MMO's , its more about the playing style. MMO's sort of force you to commit a lot of time to the game and to grind. Although I do recall hearing about an MMO that did the exact opposite of that, I still won't get back into MMO's.

Summary:

MMO's are a genre of gaming on their own, similar to how there are shooters, RPG's, puzzles etc. Going under the wing of the TES franchise does not disguise the fact that it would be an MMO and unless you like playing MMO's, it wouldn't appeal to you.

I wouldn't play it, even if it was the best game ever created. MMOs are life svckers and i like my games to have a beginning and an end. Besides, I would also feel betrayed and boycott it out of reaction.

TES V wont be an MMO, but if zenimax online made an mmo, I would only maybe play it, if it was free2play.

I would buy Bethesda, fire everyone involved, create TES V as TES III+II.

I would not play it for several reasons:

A. I don't have time. I am doing my A levels at the moment, and then I want to go to medical school. Gaming takes up a big chunk of my spare time as it is - I can't afford to get addicted to the stuff

B. I hate MMOs

C. I would feel it to be my civic duty to boycott it to bash some sense into ZeniMax

D. I am sceptical as to how well a franchise that has made itself in the fires of single player RPGs can be translated into an MMO while still actually being part of the franchise. For instance, TOR might technically be part of the KotOR universe, but we all know that it's going to be a pile of steaming poo compared to KotOR 1 and 2, and it will be a Star Wars MMO and not a KotOR MMO. The fact that it is being billed as part of the KotOR franchise is ridiculous.

D. I can't afford an MMO subscription

E. By the time it comes out my computer may well not be able to handle it graphically to my satisfaction, and I am sceptical as to how successfully anyone can make a console MMO

F. If an Elder Scrolls MMO was released alongside a single player Elder Scrolls (ie ZeniMax Online and BGS made their respective games in the same universe) I would be far too busy playing the single player game

I'm a maybe. It could be really good, but I really don'r want to get into that sort of thing, because of the addiction, and it would cost a hell of a lot.

I have a feeling I would play it even if it svcked, just because it was made in the ES universe and I would want to experience the game for myself. If it was really good, and I mean really good, then I would probably get hooked, but at this point I still have a hard time imagining anything surviving in a world competing with WoW.
