Elf age

Post » Fri Aug 20, 2010 4:18 am

I spent a long time perfecting the look of my Dark Elf and I'm very proud of him. I haven't thought up a name yet, but I was also curious about the age of Elves. I assume all Elves have similar life spans, and I also assume those are much longer than those of the Men races. I made his face look slightly aged and weathered, but I still have the intention of him looking good-looking and still quite young. If I was making an imperial I'd say he was 25 years old. How old do you guys think that is in Elf years? Does anyone even know? If it's anything like other RPGs like D&D or Warcraft, I'm assuming he'd be late into his 100's

I believe average elves can live to about 250, unless they are powerful mages, in which case they can live to over 1000 years old. I'm gussing your Dunmer will be in his 60's. Hope this helps!

Im pretty sure their lifespan is pretty long, but they usually die of other causes..

Anyway yeah, about 60 sounds right. But you could just as well say he's 25, it's not like the grow slowly. Their growth is at the same pace as humans, it's just that they age slower. They are pretty much the same for the first 20 or so years, then they stay the same. Until their 60's, they still look 20, then they age a bit, and more and more.

Im sure their average age is more than 250, roughly double. But that's just what I think, Im not 100% sure.

As for the name, you can use a TES name generator, online. :)

I seem to remember elves being able to live hundreds of years according to D&D and other games/lore. Luci Pheria my dark elf witch is supposed to be 500, which is middle-aged for a dark elf. I'm pretty sure high elves are longer-lived than dark elves, too. When I get home later today, I'll break out my D&D Monster Manual and it has all the ages of all races.

Yea, but as you might have noticed, TES Lore and D&D lore is drastically different. I might suggest the wiki. It always has good info.

For lore, there's always the http://www.imperial-library.info/.

Traditional Fantasy RPG Elfs mature at a slower rate and aren't considered to be advlts until about 75 years of age. They also live forever, according to Tolkien lore, but just retire to distant or hidden elf communities when they have seen enough of the man made side of the World.

But this is Oblivion, so you can probably throw all that out the window.

not to say the low-light vision, keen senses and immunity to sleep - so u go to bed and NEVER meet Lucien Lachance nor level up, ur elf is stuck in lvl 1 for like forevernesss.

Just treat his youth as a human's. The Real Barenziah is as far as I know the only "lore'' on the subject of mer youth, and she matured as a human would, although she remained active and attractive into her 400's.

There's contradictory TES lore on the subject of elf longevity. Originally (Arena/Daggerfall) mer life span was 1000 plus years. Michael Knightbridge wanted it shortened drastically, although still somewhat longer than human life, for Morrowind. However, one dunmer in that game, Divayth Fyr, was over 5000 years old. Obviously he was exceptional.

Who knows what may happen to the lore in the future, so I'd suggest you either 1) don't worry about it, or 2) decide for yourself.

From what I've read, it seems that lower-class, commoner Mer generally live up to 250 years, with aging dramatically after their 200th year. Nobles and other high-class ones, however, seem to live roughly two times longer, about 500 years. Then there is special case of wizards capable of unnaturally prolonging their lives to thousands of years.

This is for Dunmer at least. Altmer are mentioned to be the most "pure" of the elves and the longest living ones due to

Phynaster, Hero-god of the Summerset Isles, who taught the Altmer how to naturally live another hundred years by using a shorter walking stride

That means the Altmer live about 350-400 years for commoners and 600-700 for nobles. For mages, I am not sure, but one of the daughters of Dyvaith Fyr states there are wizards older than Fyr himself on the far west. That means some of the oldest Altmeri archwizards could be over 5000 years old.

I am a very forgiving man.

back to THE topic here, my Valeria Messalina is about 26 yo (breton), if she were an elf, what would that be more or less?

lets see - someone mentioned elves living around 500+ years... 26 is about 1/3 of 75 yo, human-wise.

so my character would be 167, can any elf woman confirm this pls?

As a 230 year old elf woman...Ok, so I am not an elf, but i've played a 230 year old one, I'd say thats a good age.

Dark Elves of Morrowind can live thousands of years if they're nobility or powerful mages.

Your average Dunmer makes it to well over 100 and is still in good health and physically agile. My guess would be a good upper life span for a lower to middle class Dark Elf would be between 200 and 300 years. At those ages you'd be very noticeably old and frail though, unless you had powerful magic at your disposal.

She would be technically the same age as your breton is. TES elves grow at the same rate as humans till reaching maturity at their 18. Then their aging is significantly slowed down.

Wow, that's graphic. I don't think that part was there on the Oblivion version of The Real Barenziah, because I read those, and don't recall reading this.
