Elf in trailer?

Anyone else notice this? Don't know if a thread's already been posted but I didn't see it. Anyway, this seems to be our first look at one of the elf-races, and I think she looks great! A bit more of a return to how they looked in morrowind, it looks like.

I'm not sure if that's an Altmer or a Dunmer. The design looks ok but it might be too elven for my taste. I'll wait for more info before I declare the elves a lost cause.

Yeah, I don't know.. it looks too light to be a dunmer but it's hard to say right now. Almost certainly an elf though.

And an elf that looks.. too elven? I don't think I quite follow your logic. But I think just about anything would be better than http://www.notmydesk.com/npc/necro.jpg

I really like the "alien" look of that elf, this seems promising. Morrowind was the first game I played where I actually liked elves (except for bosmers)
and oblivion was a huge dissapointment on that note. But yeah, that's a really nice looking altmer,
I hope the "real" dunmer return and please Bethesda make the bosmers less funny and dumb... They're like Tamriels inofficial jesters.

I definitely think it's an altmer. Just look at the skin.
She looks nice too.

Yeah I didn't really like how the Elves looked in Oblivion. The Dunmer were ok but the Wood Elves looked horrible.

Looks like an Altmer. To be honest I like it. It's not what I'm used to, but it will be really nice if the races look wildly different now. They used to all be human with varied ears and skin colour. It was only the beast races and Orcs that actually had major differences.

I think it's an altmer, or possibly an orc.

Well, I hope they do go to a more "alien" approach with the elves again, away from oblivions more human elves with pointed ears, but IMO, that is an Orc. Which is still an elf, but I expect they would have harder facial features, like this one.

Its to green to be an Altmer I think.

It's either an Imperial, Breton, or Nord.

i'm glad see variations of different faces and attractive npcs. I always picture elfs to be good looking and oblivion most of them look scary.

You could blame that on Gamebryo

Pretty sure that was the character creators fault, not the render engine.

Looks like elf, specially the ears...

What's funny is he/she couldn't care less that 20 feet away a guy gets his throat slit

True, it could be an orc. But, they said they were really playing up the differences between the races, and this slender body type is something I associate with high-elves. I think an orc would be much too burly.

Hard to say what color the skin is given the lighting.

No actually, you couldn't. God, it's become practically a meme to bash the gamebryo, meanwhile most people doing so seem to have no idea what an engine actually does.

If you had to blame anyone you'd blame bethesda's artists (yep!) and their choice of using Facegen(outside software in no way related to the engine).

I thought that was weird too.
Only explanation I see is that the AI is worse than I thought, or that everyone in the tavern was part of it.

Or they haven't reacted yet to the Dragonborn killing the NPC.

I know, I was thinking the same thing, but then I figured that even if orcs are burly, maybe the females have a more slender build, keeping with the whole, beautiful NPCs thing, especially for females. I mean... she's still got fairly large hands and wide shoulders(or it appears that way because of the armor).

As for the lightly, yea its hard to say, but the lighting is yellow/orange, not green/blue, so even if her skin tone was being shifted by the lighting, if she was an Altmer with gold skin, it wouldn't appear green in the slightest. Dunmer is possible, but I kind of hope the female Dunmers look a little better than that.

Or the scene cut off too quick so we couldn't see everyone's reactions?

Got a link for this information?

I really hope the races are significantly different from one another this time round, and the Elves, regardless whether they are Dark, Wood or High, aren't just different sized humans with pointy ears. They need to mean something this time.

" That bloke's just been stabbed!"
" I love you too man, you've always been my best human friend."

Is it my eyesight, or is that three parts elf, one part Oblivion vampire"

There's no time to react in that short clip. I'm pretty sure the AI will react to such blatant crimes.

If we're refering to the figure sitting near the person playing the instrument, I think that's an Altmer, definitely looks elven, and the skin looks kind of yellowish to me. I can't tell what the one being killed is, though.

I hope the "real" dunmer return and please Bethesda make the bosmers less funny and dumb... They're like Tamriels inofficial jesters.

I think Bosmer are a lost cause, honestly. After how they've been portrayed in the past games, I don't think I'll be able to take them seriously no matter what Bethesda does with them. It's one of those things that just can't be unseen at this point.

The Dunmer were ok but the Wood Elves looked horrible.

The Bosmer have always looked horrible if you ask me, but at least they're better than those hideous... things in Morrowind. I mean, really, who thought http://images.uesp.net/e/e0/MW-npc-Gaeldol.jpg was something we wanted to see in our game?

Well, I hope they do go to a more "alien" approach with the elves again, away from oblivions more human elves with pointed ears, but IMO, that is an Orc. Which is still an elf, but I expect they would have harder facial features, like this one.

If there's any orcs in there, I'm pretty dissappointed, because nothing in that image looks even remotely like how an orc should look. The only one that doesn't look like a normal human looks like an elf instead, sharp facial features, pointed ears... looks like an elf to me. Nothing I see in that particular character gives me an "orc" vibe.

Its to green to be an Altmer I think.

She doesn't look very green to me.

They used to all be human with varied ears and skin colour. It was only the beast races and Orcs that actually had major differences.

Isn't that pretty much what elves are? If we want to avoid humans with funny ears and skin colors, the first step we need is to do away with elves entirely. The only way you could make those look original is if you make them into pink polka dotted dragons, but of course, people will complain that you're ruining elves if you do that. And you can't exactly just say "No elves!" and then have no elves in you're game when it's set in a world with established lore in which elves already exist.

What's funny is he/she couldn't care less that 20 feet away a guy gets his throat slit

That does seem rather odd. At first, I thought that maybe the player was just sneaking successfully, but it looks to me like the elf should be able to see it, even if the player is sneaking. But maybe the video just didn't linger on the shot long enough for us to see the NPC's reactions.

More likely, for the purposes of getting an attractive shot for the trailer, crime detection AI had been turned off for the duration of recording.
