[WIPz] Elinhir, an open town in Hammerfell

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 8:04 pm

Looking at the maps for the game that include Hammerfell, I have made this town in the wrong position, so I am going to rebuild the town where the maps say I should :D

Will probably start pretty much completely over as not much can really be salvaged I don't think. Oh well, at least this happened right at the very beginning :D

I can also change the layout of it aswell, to better suit the maps.

In case it helps, http://www.imperial-library.info/maps/map_hf_names.jpg that shows the terrain around Elinhir. Of course, with the addition of the Oblivion map, the area along the border should now be more mountainous and snowy instead of Colovian-type grass plains. Basically, the snowy mountains lead down into grassy plains, and from there into a rocky, Colorado-type terrain. Elinhir is located right on the transition from snowy mountain to grassy plains.

yep...

I don't think your location is that wrong.....gamesas has created a mountain/highland area in this area where the lmap shows grasland ...your location in the valley near the the snowy border to Skyrim seems to be fine...

cheers

The only problem is that it doesn't line up with any of the maps, so I'm just moving it so it does :D
It's not an awful lot of effort, and this way the maps don't need to be changed, and the city will also be a fair bit bigger :)

that map is not from daggerfall, it was created around Oblivion's time by Tamriel Rebuilt. we do not consider it accurate in terms of landscape, just purdy to look at.

Oh, sorry about that then. I assumed from the SVGA art style that it was from Daggerfall. It definitely is purdy tho.

it looks like you got the map of TIL, if so, you can always check the notes beneath the map to see its origin.

This is a message to ali and nerevar are your mods going to be compatible?edit:i found out that tamriel rebuilt is in a different worldspace to this elinir so nerevar if you haven't already started work on elinir and have tes gecko can you use the move worldspace option so your hammerfell can be next to his and you don't have to change worldspace. p.s i know you probably already have started elinir but i'm asking anyway.

Eventually (hopefully) all such mods will be standardized with Onra's heightmaps as a base. Lady Nerevar and her team have already completed a fantastic amount of work on their Hammerfell mod, however, so it probably isn't realistic to expect them to move it at this late juncture.

ok I know I just taught that because of the gecko feature it would be easy but even with that feature other annoying agonizing things will come so yeah it's impossible until we get better tools @nerevar how isn't hammerfell good enough for tamriel rebuilt your hammerfell mod is brilliant.

Moving my mod into the Tamriel worldspace would cause more problems than it "solves". Onra's heightmaps are stretched out to allow more playroom, and, as far as i know, follow the already present contours of Bethesda's LOD. both of these factors make our Hammerfell (which is scaled to Cyrodiil and to match the latest maps) badly incompatible with the expanded heightmaps. Simply pasting the cells into the new worldspace would create major rifts, and making them match would mean having to edit hundreds of cells. Moving the mod would also create conflicts with others mods using the area (such as this one). furthermore, TES4Gecko can't actually move worldspaces: the function named "move worldspaces" simply edits the worldspace's ID to make its LOD independent from load order.

Thanks for the compliment, but TR has very high standards of both quality and speed, and I fully agree that Hammerfell wasn't meeting them.

May I humbly suggest some punctuation?

http://i837.photobucket.com/albums/zz297/modman26/Arena.jpg that can kind of give you a sense of what the area around.... umm.... my map says Blinhir... but I guess the landscape is still all there.

There are also a bunch of roads shown in the provinces onra, so maybe if it isn't too late, you could build your roads to kind of match these.

Looks like it also has three sizes of building icons, the castle looking ones with the four pillars are obviously the cities (do all these cities have castles?), so then the house looking ones would be cities w/o castles or large villages, and the tiny hut icons still have roads leading to them so they must be small villages.

Also, some dungeons from Arena are marked. I never played it myself but those would be some nice lore based dungeons if someone were to re-create them.

Arena was TES 1, so I'd consider these fairly lore accurate.

Lady N, is this what you guys used to lay out your province?

arena is best called "proto-lore" - the basic provinces and races were there, but besides that it contained nothing thats actual lore. the map is somewhat accurate, but later ones are much better.

They should be in Program Files/Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion. :)
