[RELz/Beta] Elsweyr, the Deserts of Anequina (Thread 8)

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 5:32 pm

Maybe I'm the last to realise this, but i just found out that

Iliana is back at work on this mod. :celebration:

She's providing support on Tesnexus, part of one of her posts reads-

'I may have an update for the town of Dune by the end of the month. Most of the town is populated now with the interiors all done. There will also be a small marketplace, some new merchants, a buyable camel mount, working inn, prison, and a player home. '

I'm ridiculously happy about this. Thank you for coming back Iliana.

Sounds like exciting news! It's usually better if a work of art stays closer to the artist's true vision, and who better than Illiana for this? :)
So that's great news for Dune.

More importantly, though, if she's back maybe that means things are going a little better for her, which I hope is true. Best wishes Illiana!

Here is the update I promised. Its been a long, long time since the last one!

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=53JH1UZR

The town of Dune is pretty much finished now except for the private apartments in the palace which are closed off.

You can also buy small houses in Dune and Orcrest, a camel mount, and the six inns in the mod all have beds to rent.

I did do some fixes to the mod edge west of Corinthe at the very start of the year, so some adjustments are probably needed to bring it back into synch with Onra's heightmaps in that area.

All the city markers appear at the start - just not found. Orcrest Township (sorry, I got that wrong) is the exception. The Valenwood and West Border crossings are also marked not found, whereas the other two are. I wouldn't mind seeing the Valenwood crossing, at least, marked found as well. I suspect she made the crossings "found" to make it easier for people to jump straight to Elsweyr and take a look around, if they want.

Yes, I've switched those markers off now. I activated them for testing and then forgot about them since the locations were already marked in my saved game.

Is the UL compatibility patch all that is needed to make this compatible with UL: Fallenleaf Everglades? The is also a mention of a combined landscape LOD file for both of these mods in the Optional Files, but I can't seem to find it. Is that just old information and the patch is enough?

I only had combined LODs for an old version of the Elsweyr. I'm not sure if they were really needed though. I don't think the UL makes major changes to the heightmap, so a LOD patch probably isn't really necessary.

I'm looking forward to seeing Rimmen finished. You guys seem to be making great strides with it. The Akaviri influence certainly makes it quite distinctive from anything else in Elsweyr.

Yes, even though Fallenleaf Everglade is small, it makes a significant depression into the landscape that is visibly broken if the land LOD is missing. I keep forgetting to update that based on the updated Dune LOD plugin you gave me once before.

The Dune updates look good, and I'll be off to soak it in shortly :)

I think more caves/dungeons would enliven Elsweyr some.

Still a lot to do, and the longer we work on it the more I appreciate what you did and do with Elsweyr. Thanks again for that, and I really hope things are going better for you.

This really looks awesome...

Edit: I noticed that you had used old meshes for Morrowind drinks. New ones are available http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22062 so you can include them instead if you want.

Hey Iliana, are you still interested in floating rocks and such? I've got a couple (with cell references this time!) if you are.

I think more caves/dungeons would enliven Elsweyr some.

Get Tales from Elsweyr. Not only does it add several new ruins/caves, but it also adds a bunch of new quests. I'm currently working through it myself.

Generating those lods is always a pesky job, especially since the CS insists on doing 4 quads when you only want the one.
I was going to do the UL one myself, and also another for a castle mod down around Leyawiin, but just never got around to it.

There aren't really any suitable tilesets for desert caves, tombs or ruins. The mine cave set is the only one that really suits, and I've already created enough of those.

Still a lot to do, and the longer we work on it the more I appreciate what you did and do with Elsweyr. Thanks again for that, and I really hope things are going better for you.

Town mods really are a mountain of work. The most time consuming thing is in the details. Sometimes I can spend a few days just working on one interior, or hours customising a single npc. Its very satisfying though when you see it all come together in the end. :)

Thanks! I thought I had the latest. I only downloaded the files from there last month. The file I have is called MW_Booze-22062.7z.
Is there a more recent one?
I love those glazed bottles. I was kind of stumped on what sort of stuff to decorate the Dune houses with and they were something which fitted in perfectly.

Yep, sure. A screenshot with cell reference would be better. The tiny ones are hard to spot as floaters in the cs, and some cells have 50 or more of them.

Tales from Elsweyr is a good addition. It offers plenty of dungeon delving and new quests.

"MW_Booze v2_1 Cobl" is the update with the most recent meshes. (they look like the ones in TES3) You can use both versions if you want, maybe invent some native Khajiit booze? :hubbahubba:

The pieces of corn there have textures for me.
I am having an odd sort of bug, all the NPCs in the palace courtyard are fighting eachother and me.

That's a great idea. I'll have to think up some strange khajiit beverages.

Yep, the texture is missing. I'll fix it later.

Its not a bug. Talk to some npcs if you want to know what is going on in the town. I thought two sets of soldiers with different coloured helmets fighting each other would be a dead giveaway.

Wouldn't it be better with a "Complete Mod Patch Pack" instead of downloading all of the 94 files one by one.

Finally got to check out the new and improved Dune. Very nice! I like how the architecture improves as you move upward. I did notice one small problem, though - when I entered the palace, there was a grand melee going on between all the Dune soldiers and the Dune pahmars (everyone was fighting each other). It ended up with everyone but one pahmar dead.

Also, there are rocks along the sides of the palace itself that look like they shouldn't be there (IMO, at least - they clip into the pillars, and you'd think someone would've removed them).

If you talk to the NPCs in the township they will explain that there is fighting up in the palace between the forces of the twin princes and the town guards warn you that they cannot protect you if you go up there.

Mr Siika designed the palace meshes with those rocks as foundations, since the city clings to a mountainside. They are built into the palace structure itself and are not separate rock meshes which can be moved.
