[RELz/Beta] Elsweyr, the Deserts of Anequina (Thread 3)

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:10 pm

Well yea, V.O. is not the first thing one tries to do but after playing Viconia part 3 and Heart of the Dead one knows there are some good voice actors out there. As someone else pointed out, it might be something to consider when much of the rest is done - and if one enjoys working with voices and dialog; it's really up to the modder if it is fun to do.

Luckily we don't have to follow Bethesda's decision that Everything needs to be V.O. But I remember feeling Morrowind was lacking in dialog too and only with the dialog add-ons did it get up to speed. Mix and mash, as long as there is lot's of dialog is my cup of t?.

Looking forward to your next release Illiana :foodndrink:

seconded-

While voice acting is nice when done right - it really is the icing on the cake

And very time-consuming icing at that.

Talking of things that might be cool and turning this in a constructive kind of way, would you be interested in a dust-devil kinda creature Iliana? I could probably do something like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mojave_DustDevil.jpg. While http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File%3a%44ust_devil.jpg would be cool, I'm not sure I could get it to work so easily...

Just an idea, and if you're not interested, no worries.

Vacuity, a dust devil creature like that would be really cool! Maybe the trick is to fiddle with the will-o-wisp mesh for the creature's core and then surround it with a large cloud of particles as an effect, kind of like the flame one but as a swirling dust cloud instead.

Some voice acting would be nice. I think a few selected pieces would be good, like for some of the more important npcs and things like the guard arrest dialogue.
I wouldn't want to get to bogged down with too much of it though, since it would be at the expense of making new locations and quests instead. Time is limited, so it always comes down to doing this or that, and you have to choose was it most enjoyable to do and will add more to the mod.
There's also the problem of inconsistent voices. If you add some to an NPC for new dialogue, then it comes across odd if you don't change their greeting to match as well. Otherwise you end with the Cyrodiil beggar affect, the ones who switch randomly between different personalities!

Err, don't worry; I know what I'm doing with particle-based creatures! The http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll61/Revanchism/WilloftheWisps/VatteLysFinal20.jpg is no problem, http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll61/Revanchism/WilloftheWisps/MassVirvatulis3.jpg are achievable, the major issue/difficulty would be getting rotation effect right on something so tall and thin. I can do it, I'm sure, but it's a right pain to get that kind of stuff to work nicely. That's why the big cloud would be so much easier than the tall column.

I'll have a go once I finish the major stuff for Diverse Wisps, so it'll be a little while, but I'll be sure to get it done.

This is very off topic but those Will-o-the-wisps almost make me not want to remove them from my game, almost. For some reason in my game a single wisp is able to genocide an entire town. But those wisps look good, I'd love to see some of your work included in Elsweyr.

Good news! I know it's been awhile since I last posted, but I finally got back down to Orcrest to check my "crash on attempted entry to the Hunter's Guild" problem. Since then, I have reverted back to OBSE 17 and reorganized my load order; this time I got in just fine. I found I was missing some textures on the tsaesci (looks like the cuirass), but I think I got it. Now I just have to get some armor for Saimaiq. :)

just got SI and stuff, so i finally met the dependencies to install this. on my latest file, i've actually spent more time in Elsweyr then i have in Cyrodiil! svcks that Dune is incomplete though, i nearly got mauled to death and my travelling party (i also use Talky Toaster's companion mod) all died on the way there after a clash with some tribals i just barely escaped on the journey there for some much-needed supplies. of course, i doubt this mod was made with level 2 characters in mind.

On voice-acting: You know how Uglulyx is working on an unofficial add-on quest to Elsweyr, we could do it like that. If it worked that way, Illiana could devote her work all to the quests and other things of Elsweyr, the fans and users could try to enhance the experience with dialogue. Hell, Elsweyr is big, we could even start an unofficial add-ons group to develop additional stuff, making a modded Elsweyr as deep as a modded Cyrodiil, without taking any of Illiana's time. Plus, that would make it be optional. I know, kinda "Pie-in-the-Sky", but it'd be awesome.

EDIT: Eeek! Giant freaking Tigers! Down by the town on the coast, forget what its called, Ruin and I ran into one of the Tigers. (The proper name escapes me) Yeah, me being level 3, it didn't turn out well.

Leaving the town and moving into the forest, early on we were waylaid by some cultists, who roughed Ruin up a bit, but we were able to scraqe by. After fighting off a few Clanfears, we happened upon a Tiger. I approached it, not sure if it was friendly, when it leaped over my head and batted Ruin to the side in one blow. Seeing that power, the only escape was to run. Beckoning Ruin we sped into the water, narrowly escaping the clutches of death.

Ew, another thread has reached old age. I think its gonna get put down very soon.

That will be amazing! I could do with some of your other wisps for a quest as well. I'm looking for some to represent the spirits of the four winds -- the chilly north, fiery west, pestilent east, and stormy south.

Wisps are immune to regular weapons. And townsfolk only carry junk!

That would be it. NPCs don't like it if you strip them of their skins. ;) You really do lose alot of stuff, don't you!?

Haha. Yeah lots of people have done that. "Hey look, there's a friendly looking village." Only to be set on by a bunch of khajiit savages!

I love it when other people add other stuff to the mod. Like Ugulyx is doing with this quest, and Yian and others did with map, and Arthmoor with RAEVWD. My page on TESNexus is filled with all sorts of links now.

That Senche-Tiger likes eating PCs. He's gobbled up quite a few!
Since I can't add a "you can't go this way, turn back" warning with the borders off, I stuck him there on the very edge of nowhere instead. ;)

I am being presumptious here...but here goes.

This mod is very cool.

Suggestions:
1. Why not either a) make the new Khajiit un-playable, or B) add just one more race and the for the rest merge in RBP? I personally think it would be cool to have a white or leapad Khajitt. But anyway I seems that alteast the Ohmes could come from RBP.
2. Have you thought about joining up with the Tamriel Rebuilt project? (http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1054531 ) They are making the area north of Cyrodril, and you are making just south-west. Together, this would add as much size as the rest of the game!

All you have to do is change the pathing yourself, and it will.

It seems like it would be a merger in name only since Illiana does everything herself. They could share resources, but then Hamerfell and Elsweyr would likely become indistinct.

Although it has a high cba factor, it'd be funky with some world stretching quests ^^.
Something easy-medium that takes the player around both zones for some exploration, and possibly into the original areas to an extent aswell.
