Elsweyr, the Deserts of Anequina

Download at TES Nexus
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25023

Previous forum thread:-- http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1017315

From Leyawiin to Bravil a broad range of mountains divides the verdant valleys of the Niben valley from dry plateau of central Elsweyr. Step across the border and explore a new desert land!

This mod transforms the unused across-the-border Elsweyr region into a brand new playable area with a variety of distinct landscapes, settlements, monster spawns, and NPCs. The ring of hills keep the deserts self-contained, invisible from the green of Cyrodiil.

The mod has its roots in TES lore. Anequina is the name of the northern region of Elsweyr province, and its cities Corinthe, Riverhold, Orcrest, Dune all appear on TES maps of the land. The minor place names are also taken from the TES Arena map.
You can read more about the province on the TES wiki :-- http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tamriel:Elsweyr

Reference, Tamriel worldspace vanilla cells edited by mod (but not including new cells added to the missing quad)--

I added a package of silent mp3s to TESNexus for download. Since I got pestered into making some. ;)

Also if anyone wants to test these body replacer files for me, here is an esp + texture replacers for Roberts Female and FF--

Roberts Female
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FAFLK684

FF Female
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=B2QVJXQB

I did that whole wrye bash esmify thing to make the extra esp. I guess it worked!?

@Seigfried
Oh yeah, I think they all work fine. I've only used the cacti so far, which I scattered all over the badlands in last month's update.

@Arthmoor
The 2080 rocks had their textures reversed? They look fine to me. ;) Those rocks are simply gold coast ones with the texture addresses changed.

Excellent, that will make it easy then, since I'll only have those two to reduce, I already did up the other 1125+ sizes, and you're right, barely any to be seen. So I'll get those two in there and update the package again. Especially since I discovered that the 2080 rocks had the textures reversed. :)

Most of the large-sized rocks in the desert and badlands are either one of those. Perhaps also the handful called RockStool... and RockChasmWall... if you want to see the canyons from a distance.

I made _far.nif files of the RockStool... and RockChasmWall as well. Sorry I forgot to mention in the old thread.;-)

Hi,

I've just downloaded all the Elsweyr packs from tesnexus and cant wait to try this mod. I was wondering if there is an updated Elven Map Redux with New Roads and Bridges support for Elsweyr? I looked at the coloured map version which looks ace but it doesn't have any New Roads and Bridges support so I cant really use it. Or does the coloured map only effect Elsweyr so I can keep my Elven map for the other areas?

I haven't included any new maps in the mod. But some other modders have made some to go with it.

1. Painted map by Yian:--
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25150
2. Combo map by Volkar, et al combining Elsweyr & some other mods:--
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26329

I don't know if Volkar was going to add a New Roads and Bridges version to his combos.
You can only have one in-game map though, because the map is just a single picture.

Both those maps look great and I'd use either if they had New Roads and Bridges support ;)

I can play without a map until one is released, no biggy :)

I would recommend that users try http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16622 instead of downloading the silent MP3 files. It does require OBSE, but many other great mods also use OBSE.

Yeah, the LOD ones had the textures swapped. The top part was on the side and the side was on top. Never got noticed because those 2080 rocks are hardly used. :)

Gecko can also generate these to sync a little better with the length of the dialogue, and also generates lip files to go with it.

Here's a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85i0LsTL9Qw about mod compilation which heavily features Elsweyr (in the first 5 minutes). I noticed at 3:27 there's a glitchy conversation with a Khajiit merchant. Is it fixable or is it the engine's fault?

Yeah, I reccomend that all the time and mention it a few times in my file description and in dozens of replies to questions. But I'm bored with answering the question "dialogue's too fast" over and over again, so silent mp3s it is. ;)

It can? I didn't notice that option. Those mp3s compress well. 100MB down to just 0.5MB in the rar.

Neither. Its just a bit of video editing on their part.

Might want to double check you have the latest Gecko, "create silent voice files" is on the main menu near the bottom right. And those mp3s compress well because 100MB worth of 9 seconds of silence is a pile of repeated data :)

This mod looks jaw droppingly gorgeous. Unfortunately I just can't get it to work properly. The game crashes within a couple of minutes of crossing the border into Elsweyr and there's a number of pink textures on the ground and some of the trees are just pink squares. Oblivion mod manager shows only a handful of minor (green coded) conflicts with other mods like real lights and illumination within. Any ideas on what's gone wrong would be much appreciated.

Before I forget; if none has mentioned it before the "Red crab" down at the sea is invisible for me. Is it just me having a bad install?

This mod is working alot better now than just a few betas back - great work from you and Arthmoor too :)

Cheers!

You are missing part of the download somewhere or when extracting some of the files they have gone to the wrong folder.
The game crash just means you are missing important files for NPCs, like their skin textures.

So, first make sure you have the rar files called part1, part2, part3, and that all three are extracted to your data folder.
You can double check they are in the right place by seeing if you can find these example folders in your data directory:--
Data/Textures/Characters/AnequinaCathay/
Data/Textures/Anequina/Rivers/
If either is missing it no doubt means alot of other folders are missing as well. So just extract all the rar files again.

You can add the separate JulyUpdate bit in afterwards if you like. But that one won't work by itself, its just a replacement esp and a some extra files.

I guess you must be missing some files. I know the crab definitely works, because I've seen screenshots of them in the mod on TESNexus.
Look for the files in your data folder Textures/Creatures/Mudcrab/AnequinaCrab.dds & AnequinaCrab_n.dds
If you are missing these the crab won't show up. They came with part3 of the download.

Yup - guess I'll just redownload everything since I recently reinstalled it and might have missed an update.

Thanks Iliana. Something must have gone wrong downloading the tesnexus files as there wasn't a texture file included. Downloaded from the megaupload link and all was well. Explored a little and have to say, this is just awesome. Really helps to flesh out Ob's rather limited landscape and give a bit of a feel of Morrowind. Love the desert. Really love the elephants. Can't wait to experience a sandstorm and those big cities. One small suggestion/request: how about modding in a recreation of the city of Petra in Jordan? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petra

Update: Got to Corinth and it was a bit of a lagfest, despite running streamline. Might be best instanced. Very atmospheric city. The crabs on Sorarba beach are cool, and the seagulls. For a moment thought I was playing Farcry :)

Just wantet to say, great mod.
Love the Landscape and the Style of the Citys.

The Dessert is a beautiful opposite to the green of cryodil or the snowy landscape from our skyrim :-)
The new Kaajit-races fit perfectly and everything seams right.

Wish you luck and endurance to complete everything you wanted!

In a recent post in the last thread there should be a link I posted for a bunch of meshes that were given updated collision data which vastly improves their performance. Grab those and Corinthe will cease to be a lag fest.

Iliana...

you must be having fun designing these cities. Just go slow and make them very unique and exquisite. Try to use as much lore as possible. And don't forget to add some quests!

If I might make a suggestion - try 7-zip instead of Winrar. It compresses the files much better; the July update, for example, goes from 84.5 MB (rar) to 61.2 MB. Not only does it make the files easier to download, but it's less space on the hard drive for those of us who keep them as backups. It opens WinZip and WinRar files; I use it for everything over 3-4MB in size, and use WinZip for the little stuff.

Duly grabbed, and yes, they do make a diffence. Thankyou.

Probably already been mentioned but there's a floating rock at Neumar Canyon North. Visually, could do with some high resolution LOD textures.

Settle for some http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20053? Hi-res LOD would cripple even the most powerful rigs with VRAM overload.

Also, I updated the LOD pack to include all of the large rocks from size 1125 upward, so now everyone can enjoy those LOD views of all those rocks with optimized meshes. Yes, adding that many rocks WILL lower framerates, but it's not as bad as it could be.

I can just foresee a mining area being built around the mountains in the east of Elswyr. By that, I mean like several mines, not just a single mine. They would not have to be right next to each other, but pehaps all mining the same vein...Just a ways apart. How about it, huh????!!!!!?????!!!! They don't need to be in production now...perhaps the vein got mined up and the mines closed, becoming the homes of sinister characters or creatures. Maybe a quest could somehow be involved...perhaps an NPC in one of the cities remembers working there, and found something special or left something special and wants you to go find it, if it is still there. Maybe you go search for it, but it is long gone, so you head back and he pays you off anyway for trying. Or maybe he becomes totally pissed and attacks you!

1. The far off lands are green for me - turning desert as one approach; what have I missed then?
2. Invisible wall far west, about same latitude as Corinth? Game limitation?
3. Still got some trouble with doors - I only need to get the latest download from Arthmoors meshes on Megadownload right, not both?

This is really a nice addon even as it stands now; thank you for all the hard work.

Cheers!

You haven't installed the optional package with the landscape LOD in it, you'll need that to cure this problem.

2. Invisible wall far west, about same latitude as Corinth? Game limitation?

No, collision boxes were placed to keep people from wandering out past the edge of the map into the undeveloped areas of the worldspace.

3. Still got some trouble with doors - I only need to get the latest download from Arthmoors meshes on Megadownload right, not both?

Correct, the latest one contains everything and should work 100%. Hopefully the next major update will include those in the main download :)
