Elven Map Compilation 1 & 2

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 12:33 pm

Thanks Vargr for responding on the order of installation of maps.

Does the correct order of installation solve the issue where map resolution is smaller, therefore icons are misplaced? I think that is because Stirk is added to the map, making it larger, but the icons still stay at the same place, making them off their position. I have the same issue as Azcemis above at the moment (haven't chnaged the order of installation yet), and wanted to see if there was a solution. Will installing Merged Maps (only ESP) solve that?

Yes, that is precisely what the Merged Maps esp is for (Even in that project the esp is ONLY for those maps with Stirk.)

As for resolution; it is possible that I made a mistake with the sizes, but as there are far too many for me to check easily - you can do it yourself:
Look in the file you downloaded and check the sizes of the three "cyrodiil_resized" files, they SHOULD be:

Stirk maps:
menus folder: 8.0mb
menus50 folder: 2.0mb
menus80 folder: 5.1mb

Other maps:
menus folder: 2.0mb
menus50 folder: 512kb
menus80 folder: 1.28mb

Also, is there a recommended load order for the maps, or it doesn't matter once they are installed in order - should I go with what BOSS tells me (which might not be correct)?

The maps themselves have no esp/esms so there is no load order. Just install the map set you want in your Data folder.
MergedMaps.esp, if using a Stirk map, loads (BOSS does it) right after the Bashed Patch - right neat the end of the load order

Hate to have to point this out, but on the Combo 8 map image on Nexus (and others too?) You have "Rimmon" and "Rivenhold". That should be "Rimmen" and "Riverhold" instead.

Oh no need to apologise Arthmoor; I appreciate it.

Those are error that came with the Map I used as a base - I didn't male any changes there. So yeah, it will be with every Stirk_Elsweyr map. I will be sure to make those changes while going through updating to your new NRB version. :)

Also:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/download.php?id=59418 and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/download.php?id=59417 are both listed as having Leyawiin Reborn, however neither image in those files actually does. Minor point, but it should probably be fixed.

DAMN - you are right, I will get on that.
Thank you Arthmoor.

Also wondering something. Is there a reason these maps are all such large files? The Cyrodiil Terain map I have here is only a 2048x2048 image and takes up nearly the entire image space. These Elven maps all appear to be in 4096x4096 format and take up barely the top-left quarter of the image space. I've noticed the size causes a slight delay in accessing the world map.

As far as MergedMaps.esp, it needs to go dead last. Sure wish Bash had a map size importer :)

No idea, I just adapted the maps given. And was really not willing to play around too much with them.

At the very least After the Bashed patch, yeah.

I have started to update the maps, Compilations 1 and 2 done so far.

What has changed:
Updated to represent the changes with the new release of New Roads and Bridges (4.5.5) by Arthmoor
Corrected the spelling of the two regions of Elsweyr (thanks for pointing those out Arthmoor)
Fixed a bit of roading that I mistakenly left from Elsweyr to Leyawiin, which should not be there on the Non-Elsweyr maps (Compilation 2.)
Removed Bridge just north of Leyawiin for non-NRB maps (Compilation 2.)
Also fixing the excessive size of the Stirk maps.

Tenmar Forest is misspelled (it says "Tenmar Forrest" but there should be only one "r" in the word "Forest").

I've been trying to download the 'Stirk_Bart_Elsweyr_NRB _Sutch_WR' map from compilation 4,
but it still gives me an error. Hopefully the update will fix this :)

Ha! So it is - That goes back to the very first Elven Map for Elsweyr - and has been copied through.
Thanks.

So I took a closer look:
There are a couple of other errors as well:
"Mount Heimthor" is the village of Heimthor Mount
"Nevuar walk" is the village of Neumar Walk
"Helkorn Land" is the village of Helkarn Land
"Lynmount" is the town of Meir Lynmount
"N'Quin Al Desert" is actually the Ne-Quin-Al Desert:
"Mount Alubaster"; I have only found reference to the city/village of Alabaster.

I will see what changes I can make.

Finally finished updating all 255 of the maps.

Now they are all up to date with New Roads and Bridges 4.5.5,
The Elsweyr Map has had it's spelling etc. corrected (or removed, as deemed appropriate.)
A couple of small fixes to roads near Leyawiin.

Maybe the next project should be a modular map for the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1091082-tamriel-worldspace-modding-project/. :D :D

Putting jokes aside, maybe an omod/bain compilation?

Hello,

I downloaded from the Nexus the "Stirk_Bart_Dunk_Elsweyr__NRB_Sutch_WR" Combination. After installing it (I'm using the MergedMaps.eps) all the icons are off their positions to the left as reported by others as well.
I checked the file sizes and they are not matching the size you've pointed out above. Instead they have the sizes for "Non-Stirk-Maps".
Is there any chance to get this fixed?

Thanks.

Faregyl eh? One of Arthmoor's of whom I am a fan. I will definitely take a look see on that one.

Billsburg I'm not really familiar with, but will look it up and see.

I'm very busy with real world stuff, and any addition means a lot or maps (a doubling of the current amount each time, if I want to cover all the bases) but will see what I can do.

Those file sizes are old, for some reason the base map I used included a lot of wasted space beyond the borders of the map. When I updated the files I cleane dthat up.

All Stirk maps are now about:
menus folder: 1.8mb
menus50 folder: 466kb
menus80 folder: 1.2mb

Which is slightly smaller than the non-Stirk ones (as they still have a little wasted space, but it's minimal, so I left it.)
I just download your file to make sure, and it is consistent.

It is most likely a MergedMaps thing. It can be a problem for many people, and it does seem a touch temperamental. It is not my own mod however, and beyond the scope of my severely limited abilities.

Make sure the file is placed way way down in the load order. Either literally dead last, or at least below the Based Patch. (I have it immediately after the Bashed Patch myself.)

I've MergedMaps directly after the Bashed Patch, too, but this didn't solved the problem. But luckily I fixed the problem myself. I just changed the size of the maps.
After transforming the dds Files to tga Files I resized the map in the menus folder to 4096x4096 pixels, the map in the menus50 folder to 2048x1024 pixel (or vice versa, don't remember) and the map in the menus80 folder to 2048x2048 pixel. After rezising them I converted the files back to the dds Format. Now I have perfect aligment of the icons on the map with the corresponding positions.

Interesting. That is the original size of the map (4096x4096 - it didn't include the smaller copies.) So perhaps all that non map space (the map itself is left in the upper left corner) makes a difference on some settings. What resolution are you playing at?

Okay. Both of these are villages, of which none really appear in the world map anyway. So I probably won't proceed with either.

I'm playing at 1280x800 Resolution. Unfortunately I accidently somehow put the MergedMaps.eps into the Bashed Patch, or somehow Wyre Bash was doing something to this file and I ended up again with the left shift of the icons on the Map. Nothing helps, no matter what I do. Deleting the MergedMaps.eps and puttting it into the data folder again, deleting and rebuilding of the Bashed Patch, nothing helps. I don't know why.

Ah 1280x800, a widescreen setting (has a * beside it in the resolution list.)
SilverDNA offered a recommended work around for this problem:

"See http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22401
I've added an Image to fix the map marker problem for resolution : 1280 X 720 (16:9)
On that image are the correct entries to make the changes in the CS. For that resolution."

I haven't used widesreen settings myself, so have not tried it myself. But it's worth a shot.

My skill set is unfortunately not much beyond that of making a few pretty pictures, and most of those from copy & pasting from the work of others.

Vagr, your tip was invaluable, because it pointed me into the right direction. I created my own MapSize.eps and via trial and error I changed in the CS ("Worldspace: Tamriel") the x and y values for "Usable Dimensions" to x = 2270 and y = 1825, until all the icons were at their right positions again.
Not only did I learn again a little bit about the CS, but I will be able to fix the problem again, if something like this happens again.

Thank You !

You can of course thank SilverDNA for that.
But I am glad that got sorted out, even though it is beyond the scope of my own mods. It was a widescreen issue after all. Good to know. :celebration:
