Elvin Lives

Post » Wed Feb 02, 2011 1:52 am

I checked the uesp, but didnt find anything on the subject and I dont know where else to check. I know that in most fantasy games/books/movies Elves usually live for much longer than humans; so I'm wondering, is the same true with TES? Do Elves generally live longer than Humans?

BTW I know I spelled Elven wrong in the title

Yes. "Elvin" lives are longer than humans.

depends on the social class, really. A peasant Altmer would likely die of disease or malnutrition as fast as an Imperial or Nord. However the nobles, with their access to better medicine and healing mages, have natural lifespans of I believe 500 was the generally agreed-upon date (but I could be wrong, of course). However, sorcerers of any race can and have used magic to extend their lives indefinitely, people like Diavath Fyr, The Underking and by some accounts the Tribunal.

Dude, that's people in general. I'm sure the OP is wondering about natural longevity and not factoring in socioeconomic variables.

We got Alvur Relds on qoute for 120 years for the Dunmer, we got Barenziah at 500, Baladas at 2000 and Fyr at 4000 and the Real Barenziah mentions 1000 years but that's not reliable.Further more Phynaster added another 100 years to the Altmer age, which would put a reasonable guess at 200 for the average Altmer. In general the effects of health care, living and magical affinity are more extreme for Elves then for humans which can be presumed to have a somewhat normal human life span.

For everything else it's an all you can eat speculation buffet.

Those socioeconomic variables are essential to the question, though. They make a huge difference.

The lives of elves are naturally going to be higher than humans. The wealthy noble human will live around the same amount as a farmer elf, baring accidents and death by disease (~100). When an elf has a pampered life style (wealthy and such) the life expectancy increases exponentially. With magic, it's upped even higher. Right now, Divyiath Fyr is 4000 years old, who is about as old or older than Sotha Sil. Bunch of the Telvanni mage lords are also +1000 years of age.

I think elves are immortal. Or at least have life cycles that last twice as long as humanity

Yeah, not immortal, just much longer lives. Due to their weird way of walking taught to them by a god :P

Exactly why Tes is great.

Hmm, that would explain the walking animation in Morrowind...

I didn't think Altmer could die of disease, except Corprus.

You don't die of corpus, you just horrifically mutate into an immortal walking tumor.

I'd say they still can catch a sickness, just not as often. Where as healthy humans once or twice a year would be once every 5 years for altmer or something, and that's just a peasant.

Yes, the Mer (Elves) do live longer then humans. Except Orcs or Orsimer as they got the cursed. I will explain (Hopefully I explain correctly). One day Arkay cursed the Nords making them live around 6 years. Then one of the Nord gods lifted the curse from the Nords and cast it upon the Orsimer which had been living as long as any other type of Mer but the curse shortened their life span. So the only three remaining races of Mer that live the natural length are Dunmer, Altmer, and Bosmer. Orsimer have a reduced life span and the other Mer, the Dwemer, Aldmer, Falmer, and Chimer are now extinct or basically extinct. The only remaining Dwemer or Dwarf is a male that has the "Divine Disease" and about what happened to the Dwemer,
Spoiler
I believe that they became the golden skin of the Numidum, their god
, the Falmer or Snow Elves are believed to have been wiped out by the Nords, the Chimer or
Spoiler
Changed Folk were transformed into the Dunmer by Azura
, and the Aldmer which are the original Mer have now become the other types of Mer.

If I am incorrect about any of this info please let me know.

Shor saved the nords from the curse. Orcs now live to around 60 at the very best, I think. In addition, altmer live the longest out of the elves, naturally (that means not mages). And I'd gander to say that dunmer live slightly longer than bosmer. Of course, no matter what, elves live longer than humans.

Humans at best go a little over 100. Elves at worst live to probably ~120

Thanks for correcting and adding more detail. I'm kind of a small Lore-Buff. I'm nowhere near the level of Lore-Buff IMO but I'm getting there.

Don't sweat it, you still got the right idea. I'm somewhat shoddy and there can be just so much mumbo-jumbo that it can be easy to forget the finer details.
