Elvish Armor

Be very careful about applying stereotypes like that to entire races. There are brutish and violent Altmer just as there are erudite and scholarly Nords. It's perfectly logical to assume that the Altmer would produce armour and weapons, due to their obvious utility on the battlefield.

I wasn't saying all Altmer are mages, i'm saying Altmer culture is majickally inclined. A majickally inclined culture is less likely to design their own style of armour, especially one like the Elven Armour from OB, as it would be cheaper and simpler to import armour made by other races in other provinences

And upon rereading Rislav the Rightous, i find it questionable that Leather was the only armour avaliable. It specifically says that at the time the book takes place, Indoril Nerevar and Dumac Dwarfking were both alive, meaning it was near the end of the Dwemers existence, and we know they have the ability to forge metal armour. We also know that since Skyrim is having civil problems, we can assume that at this time the Falmer are already extinct and that the Battle of the Snow Prince has already taken place, and we know that the Snow Prince had metal armour.

Interestingly, the Aurorans not only wielded Ayleid weapons, but they bear some resemblance to Elven armor. I wonder the armor drew inspiration partly from them, or if the Aurorans are simply wearing elven-style armor.

The Snow Prince, the best of the best, dressed in steel armor. Imagine what it means when their Prince wears what is now considered low class armor rather then something extravagant like Adamantium.

I've always had a sneaky suspicion that the auroran armor and the ayleid armor are similar in appearance because they're made from the same luminous material. Possibly the Aurorans are responsible for introducing this type of armor and advanced smithery to the Ayleid nations, much as Azazel from the Bible educated man, or Prometheus from the Greek myths. It's also quite possible that this armor is simply universal for many types of ada, and that this armor pre-dates the Ayleid/Auroran connection and can be traced back to the Aldmer. That, however, is a larger stretch of the imagination, and though making sense, is still huge assumption. Assumptions are something that, as a scientist, I've been taught to avoid, but gosh are they fun! :P

Probably the Ayleids, though that would make the armour several thousand years old.
The Bosmer make cool bone armour, but i think they'd damage too much nature by digging up ore for more orthadox armour
Could be the Altmer, not that they are particularly inclined to activities that require wearing armour
Falmer are (presumably) extinct, plus the Snow Prince armour doesn't resemble OB's Elven Armour
Dwemer, in addition to being extinct, already have a style of armour

The Ayleids before the death of Alysia made large ammounts of armor to hold of the original septims soldeirs. Failing though of course.

Septim lived 4000 years later.

It's old armor. The elves (Ayleids, because this is Oblivion's Cyrodiil, and anything else would Require Explanation) made it, more than likely with the intention to wear it. That is all there is to it.

Probably "inspiration", because the Aurorans probably form the armor as part of their physical being, much like how lesser Dremora form "armor" from their being to emulate the elites who get real daedric armor.

It may actually be Aldmeri. The ayleids, who branched off from the Aldmer, may have tried to keep themselves culturaly pure. If that is the case, then the Elven armor may in fact be seen in both Altmer and Ayleid culture. It was the Aldmeri armor, hence the generic title Elven. However, why didn't they just name it Aldmeri armor?....

Because OBLIVION BUTCHERED THE LORE!!!

I thought the Ayleids branched off from the Altmer, not the Aldmer. Huh, shows what I know...

Of course, I also thought the armour was Altmer in origin, or at least a sort of generic ( :meh: hate that word, but can't think of better) "High Elvish" which may perhaps cover both Ayleid and Altmer. High Elves and Heartland High Elves and all that.
I probably need to study more.

Also, I recall that the story said his armor was enchanted. Well, it either wasn't or it lost the enchantment somehow (It happened to Trueflame).

It was written in stages between 1937 and 1949, much of it during World War II.

Yea, it said that his armour shimmered with untapped Majicka

It does look sort of Middle Earthish to me

All great Medieval-fantasy styled games employ some manner of Tolkien lore.

The Altmer were the Aldmer at one point. Now that their people have branched off, they are no longer unified, so, I suppose that's why they aren't Altmer anymore.

Then I suppose the lore on Elven Armor is screwed up then, just like Mithril.

It just "borrowed" from Tolkien.

They had to find something to pass off as light armor between chainmail and glass.

And they couldn't put any actual lore in because with voiced dialogue, they had no opportunity to put in all the little bits of info.

Ayleids make it in secret because there not really dead just locked in their deepest most excellent city where they wait for the right moment to reclaim their lost land. Although they are not that smart because there giving armor to the enemy so yeah dumb Ayleids. Unless it has some soul capture spell so that anyone wearing it when they make there move becomes their slave and like has to kill people they know and what not and it would be most uncool. So yeah damned Ayleids.
